Cruise ship murder victim’s father says he’ll skip stepson’s trial

The father of a teen allegedly slaughtered by her stepbrother on a cruise is skipping the June murder trial, saying he simply cannot “relive” the trauma of discovering the girl’s body in her cabin.

“Unless they ask for me to be there, neither my wife or I will be attending,” Christopher Kepner, 41, told the Daily Mail.

“I’ve heard all the evidence. I saw it for myself. They have everything they need. It’s going to be too painful to relive it all again.”

Kepner’s 16-year-old stepson, Timothy Hudson, is headed to trial June 1 in Miami federal court on first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse charges in the Nov. 7 slaying. Timothy has pleaded not guilty.

West Bengal Repolling LIVE: Repolling begins at 15 booths in Bengal, voters standing in queue; tight security

Re-polling is being conducted at some booths in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Long queues of voters were seen in Diamond Harbor and Magarhat West seats of South 24 Parganas district since morning. Strict security arrangements have been made outside the polling stations. People are coming peacefully to exercise their franchise.

How strict are the security and arrangements?
This time the administration has tightened security to prevent any kind of disturbance. Central forces and police have been deployed at every booth. Long queues are seen outside the polling stations, but the situation remains peaceful. Officials say that every vote is important and conducting fair elections is their priority. Voters also seem to be more alert and aware this time.

What is the reason for re-voting?
The Election Commission had taken this big decision after receiving many complaints during the second phase of voting held on April 29. The Commission had received complaints of irregularities and tampering in voting. After this, on the basis of investigation, re-voting was ordered at 15 polling stations. These include 11 booths in Magarhat West and 4 booths in Diamond Harbour. The Commission says that it is important for voters to get a chance to vote properly.

TMC made this allegation on the Election Commission
BJP welcomed the Election Commission’s decision and said that re-polling should be held in more booths. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress accused BJP of conspiring to defame the state. BJP leader Amit Malviya had earlier alleged that voters were stopped at many places. Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said that this time due to strictness people have been able to vote without fear and a big change is about to come in Bengal.

What are the instructions of the Election Commission?
The Election Commission has clearly said that wherever complaints of irregularities are received, strict action will be taken. The Commission has directed that a comprehensive announcement should be made in the polling areas and every information should be given to the candidates. The objective of the Commission is clear that every vote should be counted correctly and democracy should be strengthened.

Will America attack Iran or not? Trump got angry at the reporter’s question, said- ‘Why would I tell you?’

0

Instead of going on the right path, the talks between America and Iran are getting more complicated. A few hours after Iran sent a new proposal for talks, the US President donald trump Did not give a direct answer to the question asked about the attack. When reporters in Washington asked Trump whether America would attack Iran again, he refused to give a direct answer. He said, ‘Why would I tell you this?’ And ended the matter there.

Earlier, Trump had clearly said that he is not satisfied with Iran’s proposal for new talks. He said that there are differences within the leadership of Iran, due to which the talks are not progressing. He told that talks are going on, but they are not consistent. Sometimes the matter moves forward and sometimes new people come and change the matter.

What are the further options?

Trump said that America has only two paths. Either action should be taken with full force or efforts should be made to compromise. However, he also said that he would not like to adopt the first path, that is, he would like to avoid direct major action. Trump also said that Iran is making such demands with which he cannot agree. However, he did not tell what those demands were.

Tension increased in the Middle East

Meanwhile, Iran has maintained its hold on the Strait of Hormuz. This route is very important for the world’s oil and gas supply. On the other hand, America has imposed a ban on Iranian ports, due to which the situation has become more tense. Thousands of people have lost their lives so far in this war that started on February 28. According to officials, more than 3,375 people have died in Iran and more than 2,600 in Lebanon. Apart from this, 24 people have died in Israel and more than 20 in Gulf countries. 17 Israeli soldiers have also been killed in Lebanon and 13 American soldiers in the entire region.

Pentagon withdraws 5,000 troops from Germany amid Trump-Merz feud

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The Pentagon will withdraw 5,000 U.S. troops from Germany, a spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital.

The redeployment comes amid President Donald Trump’s escalating feud with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other NATO allies, following tensions over their response to the conflict involving Iran.

“The Secretary of War has ordered the withdrawal of approximately 5,000 troops from Germany,” chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell told Fox News Digital. “This decision follows a thorough review of the Department’s force posture in Europe and is in recognition of theater requirements and conditions on the ground.”

“We expect the withdrawal to be completed over the next six to twelve months,” the statement added.

About 38,000 U.S. troops are currently stationed in Germany, where U.S. European Command is headquartered at Ramstein Air Base. The base and other American installations have long served as key logistics hubs and command centers supporting U.S. military operations in Europe and the Middle East.

The U.S. troop presence in Germany has been a point of political debate in recent years. In 2020, Trump ordered the withdrawal of roughly 12,000 troops from the country, but the plan faced bipartisan resistance in Congress and was not completed before President Joe Biden took office.

Merz, speaking Monday in Marsberg, criticized the U.S. approach to Iran, saying Washington was being “humiliated by the Iranian leadership” and expressing hope the conflict would end “as quickly as possible.”

Trump’s comments followed those remarks, marking the latest flashpoint between the two leaders, who have previously clashed on issues including tariffs and defense spending.

On Wednesday, Trump said in a Truth Social post that his administration was “studying and reviewing the possible reduction of Troops in Germany,” adding that a decision would be made “over the next short period of time.”

He also sharply criticized Merz, saying he “doesn’t know what he’s talking about” regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Stephen A Smith says he argued with Michael Jordan about whether NASCAR drivers are athletes

Stephen A. Smith saying that NASCAR drivers are not athletes has been one of my favorite stories for quite some time.

You’ve got someone giving a demonstrably incorrect hot take, and then just digging their heels in.

It’s everything that’s both great and terrible about sports media rolled up in a single package.

NASCAR DRIVER WHO WAS LEFT BLOODIED FROM HORRIFYING DAYTONA CRASH HAS HARSH WORDS FOR STEPHEN A. SMITH

Michael Jordan and Stephen A. Smith

But, I thought if there was one person who could break through to Stephen A. and point to the mountain of evidence why NASCAR drivers — and racing drivers in general — are not just athletes, but high-level, highly trained athletes, it would be Michael Jordan.

But I would be mistaken.

Stephen A. has been called out on this take by drivers like Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick, who brought his own in-car fitness tracking info as proof. So, Smith, being the savvy media personality he is, took this to his show.

That’s when, according to Awful Announcing, he got a call from his Airness.

Now, if you didn’t know, Jordan is a longtime NASCAR fan and co-owns one of the sport’s hottest teams right now, 23XI Racing, with current Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin.

Surely, he could talk some sense into Stephen A.

“You know who wanted to correct me about the NASCAR thing? Michael Jordan,” Smith said on his SiriusXM. “Michael Jordan. I argued with him! Because that’s how I feel! I’m being honest. That’s how I feel. That’s all, it’s not a crime. That’s what makes radio and sports talk.”

All right, so not at all.

I mean, people are entitled to their opinions, but when someone goes, “Here are several dozen reasons and examples why you’re wrong,” and you stick to your guns, you’re just being difficult.

But remember, it is Stephen A. who is under attack through all of this.

“Don’t you notice what we call the gang mentality?” Smith asked. “Where everybody in my line of work jumps on popular opinion so they are lumped in with the vast majority of people who feel the way they feel? That’s easy. The hard part is, ‘this is where I stand, and I genuinely feel this way, and here’s why.’”

Pope Leo XIV appoints former undocumented immigrant as West Virginia bishop

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A large Roman Catholic diocese pushed back at criticism Friday after Pope Leo XIV appointed a former illegal immigrant as a bishop amid heightened tensions between the Vatican and Washington over refugees and ICE enforcement.

Leo nominated Bishop Evelio Menjivar-Ayala as bishop of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, which covers all of West Virginia. Menjivar-Ayala originally arrived in San Ysidro, California, smuggled in a car trunk after making several prior attempts as a teenager to flee guerrilla war-torn El Salvador.

The bishop has also been critical of increased immigration enforcement measures, calling them a human rights concern and responding directly to critiques of the church from fellow Catholics in the Trump administration like border czar Thomas Homan.

After commentary piled up on social media Friday, Wheeling diocese spokesman Tim Bishop told Fox News Digital Menjivar-Ayala’s appointment is a blessing to West Virginians, praising the clergyman’s pastoral work and service.

POPE LEO SAYS COUNTRIES HAVE RIGHT TO CONTROL THEIR BORDERS, ADVOCATES FOR HUMANE TREATMENT OF MIGRANTS

“Bishop Evelio came [to America] some time ago looking for a better life and better opportunities, and thank God he did because he will shepherd the faith of our diocese,” Bishop said.

“Any insinuation that the Holy Father made this or any other appointment in any way to increase vitriol or insinuate that it gets back at the president of the United States is absurd,” Bishop added, noting he was not speaking for Leo.

The Roman Catholic Church “worries about the lamb, not the elephant or the donkey,” he said.

Meanwhile, “Letters from Leo” publisher and former DNC delegate Christopher Hale tweeted the bishop is a “remarkable choice” by Leo to lead a “state that is over 90% White and voted for President Trump by 42 points.”

Media outlets in the United States and France highlighted the appointment in light of Leo’s reported aversion to Trump’s immigration enforcement policies.

At a 2025 forum, Menjivar-Ayala said criticism of the Catholic Church’s stance toward immigration enforcement is not a question for him to answer but for those officials to discern how they are living the Gospel after he was asked about Homan’s comments that bishops at a national conference in Baltimore were “wrong” in rebuking illegal immigration enforcement.

US CATHOLIC BISHOPS PRESIDENT SAYS DEPORTATIONS INSTILLING ‘FEAR’ IN ‘WIDESPREAD MANNER’: ‘CONCERNS US ALL’

“The question is for them, for those who claim to be Catholic but are not seeing the face of Christ in the migrants,” Menjivar-Ayala said, according to World Catholic Report, which also said the newly minted West Virginian advised caution about characterizing illegal immigration as similar to murder and theft.

Menjivar-Ayala tried as many as three times as a teenager to flee to the U.S. but was caught each time, including once by Mexican authorities who imprisoned him.

Amid guerrilla warfare and extreme poverty in his home country in the 1980s, Menjivar-Ayala was first deported to Guatemala by Mexican authorities who caught him in the border town of Tijuana, according to an interview with U.S. Catholic. He then attempted to travel through the Guatemalan jungle on a second attempt but returned home on his own.

MIAMI CATHOLIC CHARITIES LOSES $11M CONTRACT PROVIDING CARE FOR MIGRANT CHILDREN UNDER TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

Finally, Menjivar-Ayala was successful after a bribe was paid to secure his release from a Mexican prison in Chiapas, and an elderly American smuggled him and three others through the San Ysidro border checkpoint while they were crammed in the trunk of the man’s car, according to The Washington Post.

Menjivar-Ayala told U.S. Catholic he found odd janitorial jobs but eventually relocated to Hyattsville, Maryland, near extended family, where he cleaned a UPS site.

It was there in Prince George’s County where he first began working as a youth minister and was able to obtain a green card for legal residence through what he said was an extant religious visa policy.

The Washington Post characterized Leo’s move Friday as another effort to “elevate” American clergy relevant to tension points with the Trump administration.

President Donald Trump has lambasted Leo — born Robert Prevost in Illinois — and quipped that he much prefers his “brother [Louis who] is MAGA all the way.”

Trump has said he has “nothing against” Leo, who has a right to disagree on subjects like the legitimacy and human rights aspects of the Iran conflict and illegal immigration crisis.

POPE LEO XIV STRONGLY SUPPORTS US BISHOPS’ CONDEMNATION OF TRUMP IMMIGRATION RAIDS: ‘EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL’

In 2025, Menjivar-Ayala criticized Trump’s immigration enforcement push in a Catholic Standard column, “This Ordeal is the Passion,” which featured an image of a suspect being detained by federal authorities.

“The Church remembers Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus in a spiritual and sacramental way during Holy Week and the Easter Triduum, but some people actually experience the Passion in a tangible and personal way in their very lives. Among them are members of the immigrant and refugee communities today,” Menjivar-Ayala wrote, referring to the Passion of Christ, Jesus’ crucifixion, death and resurrection.

“Yet, while redemptive suffering is a grace, it would be better still if these injustices and infamies did not happen at all,” the bishop later added, calling for people to speak up in the style of martyred St. Oscar Romero.

He went on to say that the “dark side of anti-immigrant animus” cannot be allowed to take hold and called some recent enforcement behavior a “violation of fundamental human rights,” while also appearing to reference actions taken against the Catholic Church in that regard.

Trump’s Department of Health & Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement recently canceled an $11 million contract with Catholic Charities of Miami that had aided in housing unaccompanied minors, according to the Miami Herald.

Federal appeals court blocks mail-order access to abortion pill mifepristone

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A federal appeals court on Friday blocked the mailing of the abortion pill mifepristone under current Food and Drug Administration (FDA) rules, a move the court acknowledged would “as a practical matter, have a nationwide effect,” and one that sets up a likely Supreme Court battle over abortion access.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling could restrict abortion pill access across the country, restoring rules supporters say protect patient safety and state authority, while critics warn it will make access harder even in states where abortion remains legal.

The decision means women will now have to see a medical professional in order to obtain a mifepristone prescription, restoring a requirement that had been lifted during the COVID-19 pandemic under former President Joe Biden.

Mifepristone is one of two drugs commonly used in medication abortions and accounts for a majority of abortions in the U.S., according to research from the Guttmacher Institute.

ABORTION PILL MIFEPRISTONE STAYS AVAILABLE BY MAIL FOR NOW AS FDA FACES 6-MONTH REVIEW DEADLINE

The court’s order blocks mail-order distribution of the drug and effectively halts pharmacy-based dispensing allowed under recent FDA rule changes, requiring it to be dispensed in person under earlier safety protocols.

“It is true, as the district court noted, that a § 705 stay ‘would, as a practical matter, have a nationwide effect.'” the court wrote, putting in plain terms the sweeping implications of the decision.

Judges sharply criticized the FDA’s handling of the drug’s safety data, saying the agency had “previously eliminated the requirement to report mifepristone’s adverse events,” and calling it “unreasonable” to remove reporting requirements and then rely on the resulting lack of data to justify expanded access.

The ruling also sided with arguments from pro-life states, including Louisiana, which said federal policy undermined their abortion laws.

“Every abortion facilitated by FDA’s action cancels Louisiana’s ban,” the court wrote, adding that the state’s policy recognizes “every unborn child is [a] human being… from the moment of conception.”

“Once lost, that sovereign prerogative of protecting unborn life cannot be regained,” the court added.

The ruling marks a major escalation in the legal fight over abortion drugs, pitting federal regulators against states seeking to enforce stricter abortion laws in the wake of the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

Pro-life groups quickly praised the decision.

“This is a win we’ve been waiting for, and we pray it holds,” Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins said.

“We can’t remain the United States of America if abortion loving states allow criminal enterprises to be set up, breaking the laws of their pro-life neighbors,” she added.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins called the ruling “great news for the unborn,” adding that the issue “should be before the U.S. Supreme Court soon.”

Pro-choice advocates sharply criticized the decision.

New York Attorney General Letitia James said mifepristone is “safe, effective, and essential,” calling the ruling “yet another cruel attack on abortion access.”

“Restrictions on abortion care are restrictions on life-saving health care,” she added.

As Fox News Digital previously reported, a federal judge had allowed mifepristone to remain available by mail on a temporary basis last month while legal challenges and federal review efforts continued.

Judge David C. Joseph previously cautioned against “government by lawsuit,” emphasizing that the FDA’s ongoing safety review, not litigation, should determine long-term policy.

That review remains underway, with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the FDA tasked with examining safety data, adverse events and the regulatory framework on mifepristone.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill had argued the policy caused “irreparable harm every day” it remained in place, warning expanded access was designed to “reach into jurisdictions like Louisiana” despite state-level abortion restrictions.

Friday’s ruling now sets up a likely appeal to the Supreme Court, where a new challenge to federal authority over abortion drug regulation could take center stage.

Bard president Leon Botstein stepping down after inquiry into his Epstein ties | Jeffrey Epstein

0

Leon Botstein has announced he is stepping down from the helm of Bard College, after an independent review of his contacts with Jeffrey Epstein found the college president’s frequent interactions with the convicted sex offender “could have alerted” him to the possibility that he and Bard would be facilitating Epstein’s abuse of women.

An investigation by the WilmerHale law firm, which had been commissioned by Bard’s board of trustees earlier this year to review Botstein’s interactions with Epstein, found the Bard president – who had previously claimed he was not friends with Epstein – made about 25 visits to Epstein’s townhouse, a two-day visit to Epstein’s Little St James Island, and that there were two visits by Epstein to Bard. These visits, WilmerHale reported, included “multiple women” who have since been identified as victims of Epstein.

Epstein and Botstein, who has not been charged with wrongdoing in connection with his relationship with the accused sex trafficker, were in contact from 2012 to 2019.

The WilmerHale review also suggested that Botstein had been warned by a senior faculty member that he should not engage with Epstein, who the president was courting as a donor to the college. The report by Wilmer Hale found that instead of heeding that apparent warning, Botstein relied on the view that “an ordinary sex offender” like Epstein could be presumed to be rehabilitated, since he had served time in prison.

Botstein forcefully argued, Wilmer Hale said, that “Bard’s need for funds was paramount”.

“His view was, ‘I would take money from Satan if it permitted me to do God’s work,’” the report stated.

In a statement released on Friday evening, Bard’s board of trustees said they received WilmerHale’s findings on 30 April and that Botstein then submitted his “retirement”, effective 30 June. In a statement, the board said it was grateful for Botstein’s five decades of service to Bard, and called for an “orderly transition”.

“The concerns raised in recent months have been serious and deeply felt. We are grateful to those who came forward to share their perspectives, and we recognize the importance of the questions that prompted this review and the deliberation that followed,” the board said. It also shared a summary of WilmerHale’s findings.

The WilmerHale review raises new questions about Botstein’s financial interactions with Epstein. WilmerHale described how Botstein accepted fees under a consulting agreement with an Epstein entity in 2016, but he did not disclose the agreement to the board on the grounds that he intended to donate those funds to Bard. Botstein appears to have told WilmerHale investigators, according to the law firm’s findings, that the funds were donated to Bard by rolling them into his and/or his wife’s contributions over the years, and were not separately identified from Epstein.

“For this reason, the documents cannot confirm for the board the contribution of those fees to Bard,” the report found.

The board said funds associated with Epstein would be directed to organizations that support survivors of sexual harm.

The WilmerHale review also pointed out that, beyond the frequent visits by Epstein, there were many other invitations extended to the convicted sexual predator – like a stay at Bard’s guest cottage, attending a concert by conservatory students, and a visit to Bard High School Early College – that were not accepted but could have “further exposed” Bard students to Epstein.

WilmerHale found: “President Botstein said that he did not see a risk to Bard’s reputation in pursuing Epstein or the potential risk to Bard students of exposure to Epstein, nor did he consider that his actions could validate and legitimize Epstein to potential victims or their parents.”

The law firm added: “In his public statements and his statements to the Bard community, President Botstein minimized and was not fully accurate in describing his relationship with Epstein.”

In a statement, Botstein did not address WilmerHale’s findings. He said he had previously informed the board that, in the view of his 51 years of service and upcoming eightieth birthday, it had been his intention to retire from the presidency. He said he intended to remain a faculty member, teacher and musician, and said he would live at Finberg House, on the college’s campus.

Browns coach Monken not ready to name starting QB amid Watson-Sanders battle

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The Cleveland Browns entered last season with one of the NFL’s more crowded quarterback rooms.

Shedeur Sanders took over the starting quarterback duties in Week 12 last season, and after two more starts, he was named the starter for the remainder of the season. Dillon Gabriel moved to a backup role as Deshaun Watson stayed on the physically unable to perform list, even after the team opened his 21-day practice window in December.

Sanders, Gabriel and Watson are all set to return in 2026, but it remains unclear which quarterback will be under center when the regular season begins this fall. Browns head coach Todd Monken reiterated his stance on maintaining an open competition for the starting job, telling Cleveland radio station 92.3 The Fan that it is premature to name a starter.

“It’s my job to let it play out,” Monken said.

Monken’s comments Friday are in line with his previously stated belief in letting the players decide who plays and giving all involved opportunities as the competition evolves.

The remarks also follow a report that Watson leads the race for the starting job. They also come after Shilo Sanders downplayed the report and publicly expressed support for his brother Shedeur’s bid for QB1.

Monken, who was hired in January, is expected to introduce a new offensive system in Cleveland. The first-year coach has indicated he ultimately prefers one quarterback to separate himself from the group.

The Browns held a three-day voluntary minicamp shortly before the 2026 NFL Draft. At the lone open practice open to the media, Watson led the quarterback rotation in most drills, but Monken said the plan called for Sanders to get more reps overall.

“I’m not there yet, so I can’t say (there’s a leader),” Monken added. “We’ve been on the field three days.”

The Browns are scheduled to begin organized team activities (OTAs) in mid-May. The following month, the team will hold a mandatory minicamp. The offseason program then concludes before training camp begins in July.

The Browns drafted Taylen Green in the sixth round in last week’s draft.

Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine in February, Browns general manager Andrew Berry cautioned that there’s no rush to decide on the starting quarterback.

“We don’t have to make that decision anytime soon,” Berry said at the time. “I think any player that we have in that room we would expect to compete to earn a role. Those two would be no different.”

The Browns went 5-12 last season.
