China-Iran rail corridor grows as US naval blockade fails to reach overland

The U.S. is trying to choke off Iran’s economy at sea, but a growing China-linked rail corridor is giving Tehran a workaround that Washington cannot easily shut down without risking a wider conflict.

As freight traffic between China and Iran increases along an overland route beyond the reach of American warships, the dynamic is exposing a core limitation in the U.S. strategy: maritime pressure is powerful, but it doesn’t fully extend across Eurasia.

According to Bloomberg, cargo trains running from central China to Iran have jumped from roughly one per week before the blockade to one every three or four days, highlighting a growing alternative channel as Tehran looks to blunt maritime pressure.

The corridor runs through multiple sovereign countries, including Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, making it far more complex to disrupt than shipping lanes in the Persian Gulf.

Directly targeting that overland network would risk widening the conflict and escalating tensions with Beijing, which has spent years investing in trade routes designed to bypass maritime choke points dominated by the U.S. Navy.

That combination of geography, diplomacy and escalation risk helps explain why Washington has focused overwhelmingly on maritime interdiction rather than attempting to shut down overland trade routes.

Experts say the rail corridor remains limited in its ability to offset Iran’s main oil exports.

“There’s no substitute for a very large crude carrier,” Isaac Kardon, a senior fellow focused on Chinese strategy and maritime security, told Fox News Digital.

Kardon estimated that “maybe like 1% of the exports that Iran would typically be pushing out through Hormuz could go over land.”

Max Meizlish, a former Treasury official focused on sanctions policy, similarly described the rail corridor as “a drop in the bucket compared to Iran’s traditional oil exports over maritime transit routes.”

Still, analysts warn the route carries strategic risks beyond its limited scale.

Meizlish said the rail network “provides a pathway for China to supply Iran with critical dual use goods or just military logistical infrastructure” beyond the reach of U.S. naval enforcement.

Kardon pointed to similar concerns, including the potential movement of “parts for drones” and “missile precursor chemicals.”

Even so, Kardon emphasized the corridor cannot sustain large-scale economic or military flows.

“It’s a flow question,” he said. “Can you sustain the Iranian war-fighting effort solely with cargoes from China or from its other Eurasian neighbors? And I think the answer is really no.”

Taken together, the rail corridor is not an economic lifeline for Iran, but it underscores a broader shift as China builds trade networks designed to blunt U.S. pressure at sea and test the limits of how far Washington is willing to go to enforce its strategy.

Cisco discloses yet another SD-WAN make-me-admin 0-day

CISA hands feds super-tight deadline for this perfect-10, actively exploited flaw

Cisco admins face emergency patch duty after Switchzilla disclosed a max-severity make-me-admin bug affecting Catalyst SD-WAN Controller and Manager.

Switchzilla dropped an advisory for CVE-2026-20182 (10.0) on Thursday, saying that both components, formerly known as vSmart and vManage, were vulnerable in all deployment types, and that fixes were available.

The bug allows unauthenticated remote attackers to bypass authentication and gain admin privileges on an affected system.

According to Rapid7, whose researchers Stephen Fewer and Jonah Burgess found the vulnerability, attackers exploiting CVE-2026-20182 could then start issuing arbitrary NETCONF commands.

It means they could steal data, intercept traffic, manipulate an organization’s firewall rules, or just bring the network down, opening up opportunities for attackers of all stripes: state-backedfinancially motivatedhacktivists – you name it.

Offering a high-level overview of the vulnerability, Cisco said: “This vulnerability exists because the peering authentication mechanism in an affected system is not working properly. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted requests to the affected system.

“A successful exploit could allow the attacker to log in to an affected Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Controller as an internal, high-privileged, non-root user account. Using this account, the attacker could access NETCONF, which would then allow the attacker to manipulate network configuration for the SD-WAN fabric.”

Cisco confirmed that, in May 2026, it became aware that CVE-2026-20182 had been exploited as a zero-day, although it did not attribute the activity.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) also added CVE-2026-20182 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, which is reserved for the security flaws that are both actively being exploited and threaten federal agencies.

The US cyber agency gave Federal Civilian Executive Branch agencies just three days to apply Cisco’s patches. While CISA has set similarly short deadlines before, they are rare and typically reserved for vulnerabilities deemed especially urgent. There was no word of the bug being exploited in ransomware attacks.

Cisco said in its advisory there are no workarounds available, and it “strongly recommends” applying the available fixes.

Any admin responsible for their org’s Cisco SD-WAN system should hunt through their logs, Cisco said, and be aware that indicators of compromise may appear among otherwise normal-looking operational logs.

Specifically, they should be auditing the auth.log file at /var/log/auth.log for entries related to Accepted publickey for vmanage-admin from unknown or unauthorized IP addresses. Then, check those IP addresses against the configured System IPs that are listed in the Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Manager web UI, the vendor said.

Cisco thanked the Rapid7 researchers, who first reported the vulnerability in early March after looking into a separate authentication bypass zero-day in Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Controller (CVE-2026-20127, 10.0) from February. ®

Deadly attack on Pakistan outpost puts Afghanistan ceasefire at risk | Pakistan Taliban News

0

Two assaults in the northwest region have killed more than 20 people in recent days, threatening Islamabad’s shaky truce with the Taliban.

An attack on a security compound in northwest Pakistan has killed several paramilitary officers, with the Afghan-based Pakistan Taliban (TTP) claiming responsibility.

An armed group rammed a vehicle filled with explosives into the Bajaur district camp’s gate on Thursday and then launched a gun battle, security sources said. It was the latest in a string of deadly incidents in the border region that threaten the fragile ceasefire between Islamabad and Kabul.

The vehicle triggered a “huge explosion,” one Pakistani official told Reuters news agency. The fighters then rushed the camp and opened “indiscriminate fire”.

Reports say that eight or nine Pakistani soldiers were killed in the attack. At least 10 of the attackers were killed, the AFP news agency reported, while about 35 security personnel were wounded.

A Reuters journalist in the town of Bajaur said the blast was felt at markets more than 20 kilometres (12 miles) from the compound. Images showed that most of the outpost’s structures had been destroyed or charred by flames.

Pakistani military troops reportedly shut down nearby roads and surrounded the compound, which is located on the mountainous border with Afghanistan.

Deadly attacks escalate

The Pakistan Taliban (TTP), which seeks to overthrow the Pakistani government via attacks launched from its base in the remote border area of Afghanistan, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The latest attack adds to several other assaults in the same region, which have killed more than 20 people in recent days.

A car bomb killed more than a dozen as it targeted a police post, while at least nine people were killed in an explosion at a market.

Three security personnel were wounded in Bajaur’s Inayat Killi area when a mortar shell landed inside another camp, officials told AFP.

Islamabad claims Afghanistan is harbouring the armed groups that carry out attacks inside Pakistan. Kabul denies the accusation, with tension between the South Asian neighbours surging since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021.

From February, this friction escalated into cross-border clashes between the two countries, and then into what Pakistan’s defence minister declared was “open war“.

A pause was agreed to in March, but sporadic violence broke out again. Islamabad and Kabul agreed last month to avoid escalation in China-brokered discussions.

However, the talks have not resulted in a formal agreement or ceasefire, leaving the situation volatile. The series of attacks over recent days threatens to ignite further hostilities between the two states.

The cross-border conflict has killed at least 372 Afghan civilians and injured nearly 400 others in the first three months of 2026 alone, the United Nations said earlier this week.

The country’s top goalscorer has not started for Napoli this season and made just seven substitute appearances.

Belgium have included striker Romelu ‌Lukaku in their squad for the World Cup, even though he has played only an hour of competitive football this season.

Lukaku, who turned 33 on Wednesday, has not started for Napoli this season, making seven substitute appearances and netting a goal at Verona in February, and has been in Belgium for the last two months rehabilitating after a hamstring injury.

But his role as the country’s leading scorer has seen coach Rudi Garcia gamble on his fitness for the tournament starting next month, where Belgium are in Group G along with Egypt, Iran and New Zealand.

Lukaku has scored 89 times for Belgium but won the last of his 124 caps in the 4-3 home win over Wales in the World Cup qualification last ‌June.

As cover, Garcia included promising attacker Matias Fernandez-Pardo after he committed his international future to the country earlier this week.

The 21-year-old, who was born in Brussels to Italian and Spanish parents, played for Belgium at the junior level before choosing to play for Spain in 2024. But, subsequently, he did not honour a call-up to their under-20 side. He has had a strong season at Lille and was chosen in place of Lois Openda, who has not played regularly for Juventus this season.

Sporting defender Zeno Debast was also included despite being hurt in training for the Portuguese club and amid reports he might not recover in time. Debast has been a regular since Garcia took over as coach.

The timely return from injury of Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is a bonus for the squad, but speculation that Garcia would pick four goalkeepers in his 26-man selection proved incorrect.

Garcia announced his squad in the lunchtime news bulletin on Belgian television, and it will be a fourth successive World Cup for Courtois, Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne and Axel Witsel.

Belgium squad for World Cup 2026:

Goalkeepers: Thibaut Courtois, Senne Lammens, Mike Penders.

Defenders: Timothy Castagne, Zeno Debast, Maxim De ‌Cuyper, Koni De Winter, Brandon Mechele, Thomas Meunier, Nathan Ngoy, Joaquin Seys, Arthur Theate.

Midfielders: Kevin De Bruyne, Amadou Onana, Nicolas Raskin, Youri Tielemans, ‌Hans Vanaken, Axel Witsel.

Forwards: Charles De Ketelaere, Jeremy Doku, Matias Fernandez-Pardo, Romelu Lukaku, Dodi Lukebakio, Diego Moreira, Alexis Saelemaekers, Leandro Trossard.

Joe Rogan blames TikTok for conspiracy theories about Trump assassination

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Podcaster Joe Rogan blamed TikTok and social media culture for widespread conspiracy thinking on Wednesday after discussing how many Americans believe at least one assassination attempt against President Donald Trump was staged.

“This is TikTok. It’s f—ing ruined,” Rogan said during “The Joe Rogan Experience” while reacting to survey data showing many Americans either believe at least one attempt was staged or are unsure whether the attempts were authentic. “Rotting their f—ing brains out from inside their heads.”

“Meanwhile, you go on Chinese TikTok, it’s all like traditional dance and martial arts, science projects,” Rogan said. “It shuts down for kids after 10 p.m.”

After Rogan read the survey findings, his guest, comedian Brendan Schaub, responded, “And that’s the problem.”

According to The Washington Post, “Roughly 1 in 3 Democratic respondents said they believed the [White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting]  event was staged, compared with about 1 in 8 Republicans, according to a survey published Monday by NewsGuard, a company that rates the reliability of online news outlets. Respondents between the ages of 18 and 29 were also more likely than older people to think the incident was staged, according to the report.”

Rogan and Schaub spent several minutes discussing conspiracy theories surrounding the multiple assassination attempts against Trump, including the July 2024 shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Rogan argued people who believe the Butler shooting was staged do not understand firearms.

“The people that thought that the Butler, Pennsylvania one was staged don’t know anything about guns,” Rogan said. “I don’t know anybody who knows anything about guns that thinks that the president would let some guy nick his ear with a bullet.”

Rogan pointed to the death of firefighter Corey Comperatore, who was killed during the Butler rally shooting while attending the event.

“That guy got shot by a bullet that was intended for Trump,” Rogan said. “And then there’s a photo of a bullet whizzing by his face. Anybody that thinks that that staged is out of their f—ing mind.”

For the 2024 attempt, the Post explained, “Regarding the Butler assassination attempt, 24 percent of respondents said they believed it was staged. Forty-two percent of Democratic respondents said they thought the shooting was staged, compared with 7 percent of Republicans.”

The pair also referenced another assassination attempt connected to the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.

Schaub questioned why anyone would believe an individual would destroy his own life to participate in a fake attack.

“They think that’s fake,” Schaub said. “It’s like, hold on. So, you think this guy, who’s a teacher, educated, clearly kind of had his s— together, threw away his life?”

The podcasters also discussed Thomas Matthew Crooks, the gunman who attempted to assassinate Trump in Butler, with Rogan questioning the lack of publicly available information about him after the shooting.

“That one was weird as f—,” Rogan said. “That guy’s house was professionally scrubbed. He didn’t even have silverware there. He had no online activity. He had no social media.”

Health officials raise alarm over new Ebola outbreak in DR Congo | News

0

Concern is high regarding the potential spread of the virus amid a precarious security situation in the affected area, which borders Uganda and South Sudan.

Health officials have raised the alarm over an outbreak of the Ebola virus in a remote region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the continent’s top public health body, said on Friday that it has recorded 246 suspected Ebola cases and 65 deaths in the Ituri province in the northeast of the country.

Concern is high regarding the potential spread of the virus, with efforts to control it complicated by a precarious security situation in the affected area, which sits on the border with Uganda and South Sudan.

The DRC government struggles to secure the east of the country due to activity by armed groups seeking control of valuable mineral deposits.

Preliminary laboratory results have reportedly detected the Ebola virus in 13 of 20 samples tested. The outbreak comes about five months after the DRC’s last Ebola bout was declared to be over, leaving 43 people dead.

Africa CDC expressed concern over the risk that the new outbreak could spread rapidly due to intense population movement, the poor security situation in affected areas, and control challenges.

The agency said it is convening an urgent high-level meeting with health authorities from the DRC, Uganda and South Sudan, together with key partners, including UN agencies and other countries, to reinforce cross-border surveillance, preparedness and response efforts.

Ituri is in a remote eastern part of the DRC with poor road networks, and is more than 1,000km (620 miles) from the capital, Kinshasa.

First identified in 1976 and thought to have crossed over from bats, Ebola is a highly contagious and deadly disease spread through direct contact with bodily fluids, causing severe bleeding and organ failure.

“Four deaths have been reported among laboratory-confirmed cases. Suspected cases have also been reported in Bunia, pending confirmation,” Africa CDC said, referring to the capital of Ituri.

“The meeting will focus on immediate response priorities, cross-border coordination, surveillance, laboratory support, infection prevention and control, risk communication, safe and dignified burials, and resource mobilization,” it added in its statement.

The DRC has seen more than a dozen Ebola outbreaks, the deadliest coming between 2018 and 2020, killing nearly 2,300 people.

Security risks make efforts to control such outbreaks highly challenging. The eastern DRC has been plagued for decades by groups seeking control of the mineral-rich region. Last week, an attack by armed rebels in Ituri province killed at least 69 people.

Following a rapid assault by the M23 rebel group, supported by Rwanda, in January last year, the DRC government has struggled to regain control of key cities amid a fragile ceasefire.
