‘That couplet was very bad, that’s why…’ SP leader Rajkumar Bhati, surrounded by controversial statement on Brahmins, gave clarification

0

Samajwadi Party spokesperson Rajkumar Bhati, while giving clarification on the alleged controversial remarks regarding Brahmin community, has said that his statement was distorted. By writing a long post and making a video on the social media platform X, he said that he had no intention of insulting any caste or religion. He also said that if his words have hurt the sentiments of any Brahmin brother, then he apologizes unconditionally.

Gave speech at book launch program

According to Rajkumar Bhati, the launch program of Dr. Rafraf Shakeel Ansari and Javed Anwar’s book ‘Virus of Caste and Communalism’ was organized at Jawahar Bhawan, Delhi. After the program, there was a discussion on this topic, in which Yogendra Yadav, Ashutosh, Prof. Many people including Ratan Lal, Sheeba Aslam Fahmi and Bilal Ahmed were present.

Politics intensified due to SP leader Rajkumar Bhati’s comment on Brahmins, Deputy CM said – ‘Akhilesh Yadav…’

Bhati told that in his speech he had mentioned the bad sayings and idioms prevalent in the society regarding castes. He said that such things have been said against every society and their aim was only to show that this kind of thinking is wrong in the society.

‘Does not think wrong about Brahmins’

The SP spokesperson said that he had also said in his speech that a journalist had recited to him a couplet related to Brahmin and Vaishya community, but it was so bad that he never recited it in public. He had also said that he does not consider such couplets to be correct and Brahmins are very good and respectable people in the society.

Bhati alleged that a clip of only a few seconds from his entire speech was being cut and made viral on social media so that he could be called anti-Brahmin. He appealed to the people to watch the entire video.

‘If anyone gets hurt, apologize with folded hands’

In his statement, Rajkumar Bhati said, “If my words have hurt any Brahmin brother or hurt his heart, then I apologize with folded hands without any condition. I had no such intention and can never do so.”

He said that he is a person associated with socialist ideology and a true socialist can never insult any caste or religion. He said that some people continuously campaign against him and try to prove him as anti-Brahmin, anti-Sanatan and anti-Hindu, whereas all these allegations are completely false.

After PM Modi’s appeal, CM Yogi’s big decision, update on ministers’ convoy and WFH

BJP IT cell targeted

Rajkumar Bhati claimed that the IT cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party and some people are trying to create an atmosphere by spreading his statement in a wrong way. He said that the Brahmin community has given scholars, patriots, brave warriors and intellectuals to the country and he has full respect for this society.

The SP spokesperson finally said that he is not in favor of derogatory language against any caste, religion or society and people should see the complete truth instead of the incomplete clip.

House Oversight task force targets alleged Ohio Medicaid fraud in new probe

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

FIRST ON FOX: House Republicans are rolling out a new oversight task force, starting with an investigation into alleged social services fraud in Ohio.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., tapped Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, a member of the oversight panel, to lead the Task Force on Defending Constitutional Rights and Exposing Institutional Abuses, Fox News Digital has learned.

The duo sent a letter to Ohio Department of Medicaid Director Scott Partika on Tuesday to request documents related to a bombshell report in the Daily Wire, probing widespread fraud in the state’s Medicaid waiver program for home health and community-based services.

The outlet reported on 288 home health companies in Columbus, Ohio, that shared the same addresses, dozens of which were housed in office buildings that appeared to be vacant or in poor condition. The entities billed the federal government more than $250 million in Medicaid spending between 2018 and 2024, though the outlet’s reporting cast doubt on whether the companies billed Medicaid correctly or provided the services.

WHISTLEBLOWER WARNS MASSIVE FRAUD IS HAPPENING IN OHIO SOMALI COMMUNITY, MINNESOTA: ‘JUST TIP OF THE SPEAR’

“Americans deserve truth, transparency and justice,” Gill said in a statement obtained by Fox News Digital. “They are sick of being defrauded by government institutions and programs that should have been putting them first, not robbing their tax dollars.”

“Under his leadership, we will continue to expose radical ideologies being pushed on Americans and fight to safeguard our freedom that we’ve enjoyed as a nation for 250 years,” Comer said in a statement, adding that Gill, a freshman lawmaker, had become a pivotal player on the Oversight Committee.

Gill’s task force will have a broad purview, including investigating institutions that uphold diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies, individuals who misuse immigration and social welfare programs, and efforts by foreign actors and dark money groups to censor Americans’ speech.

The panel’s creation comes as House Oversight Republicans are currently investigating social services fraud in Minnesota and California.

RAMASWAMY VOWS AGGRESSIVE MEDICAID CRACKDOWN AFTER REPORT ALLEGES MILLIONS BILLED FROM VACANT OHIO OFFICES

“The current Medicaid system either does not have sufficient internal controls to prevent and detect fraud or is not conducting proper oversight of these HCBS [Home and Community-Based Services] providers,” Comer and Gill wrote in the letter. “As a result, Americans across the country are paying for this fraud while vulnerable patients are being exploited.”

Comer has authorized the task force for six months, and Gill is expected to hold hearings at a later date.

Ohio Republican gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy has pledged to scrutinize the state’s Medicaid spending if elected governor in November.

“We’re going to have to take a deep, hard look at the way the $40-plus billion in state Medicaid dollars are being spent,” Ramaswamy told “Saturday in America” host Kayleigh McEnany.

“I think the right answer is any instance of waste, fraud, abuse … deserve[s] to be prosecuted, and we intend to investigate them aggressively, as well as to prosecute aggressively, to send a deterrent signal that our government is not a piggy bank. The taxpayer is not a piggy bank to be bilked.”

The Ohio Department of Medicaid told the Daily Wire it has sufficient safeguards in place to combat fraud and had been investigating home health companies that may be abusing the system prior to the outlet’s reporting.

Cruise ship passenger documents hantavirus quarantine on social media

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

One of the passengers aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship posted video showing his quarantine room at the National Quarantine Unit at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha as officials monitor a hantavirus outbreak tied to the voyage.

Jake Rosmarin, a passenger currently under quarantine, has been documenting his experience on social media, posting videos from both the ship and the medical facility. Fox News Digital has not independently verified the video.

Health officials have said the passengers are being monitored out of caution after potential exposure to Andes virus, a type of hantavirus, and have emphasized that the risk to the public remains low.

In one recent clip, Rosmarin showed his room, which included a wall-mounted hand sanitizer, a thermometer and other health provisions. The room also featured a stationary bike.

“I can have stuff sent here for the duration of my stay, so I’m definitely going to be getting some things for me to feel more at home and more comfortable,” Rosmarin said.

He added that he plans to continue sharing updates in the coming days and said he is currently feeling “well.”

Rosmarin also said he has not tested positive for hantavirus.

The footage shows conditions inside the quarantine unit as health officials monitor passengers for potential exposure following the outbreak.

Health officials have said passengers may be allowed to leave the Nebraska facility before a 42-day monitoring period ends if they meet certain conditions, including remaining symptom-free and being able to safely isolate at home.

Officials will also evaluate whether individuals can maintain contact with local health departments and quickly access testing or medical care if symptoms develop.

Of the 18 individuals transported to the U.S. after the outbreak, 16 are in Nebraska and two are in Atlanta. Most are in quarantine, while one individual was placed in a biocontainment unit after an earlier test result.

Officials have emphasized that the risk to the general public remains low, noting that the Andes variant of hantavirus does not spread easily and typically requires prolonged, close contact with a symptomatic individual.

Don’t reach for the bug spray: scientists find insects may feel pain after crickets nurse sore antenna | Animal behaviour

0

Do insects feel pain? Crickets certainly seem to, according to new research which finds they stroke and groom a sore antenna in much the same way as a dog nurses its hurt paw.

Associate Prof Thomas White, an entomologist from the University of Sydney, said the experience of pain was a “longer, drawn-out, ouchy feeling”, that differed from a hardwired nerve response.

But evidence for pain is difficult to establish in other species, he says, so scientists look for behavioural cues. One indicator is “flexible self-protection”, where an animal directs protection to a particular body part over an extended period of time.

“You see a dog, limping, or licking its paw, or holding one particular arm – of course, we’d immediately say, ‘well that’s in pain, it must be sore’.” Scientists search for evidence of similar responses to ascribe pain to other animals, including insects.

So, to test the idea in crickets, researchers first had to give them an “ouchy”.

In the study, published in Proceedings of the Royal Society, dozens of crickets were randomly selected to receive one of three treatments. Some had a heated soldering iron applied to one antenna, while other crickets received the same probe; unheated, and a third acted as a control.

The soldering iron was set to 65C – hot enough to be a “bit unpleasant”, without causing lasting harm, White says.

Crickets that received the hot probe “overwhelmingly” directed their attention to the affected antenna – they groomed it more frequently, and tended to it over a longer period of time, he says. “They weren’t just agitated and flustered. They were directing their attention to the actual antennae that was hit with this hot probe.”

The other crickets? They were a bit perturbed, he says, but resumed normal activity very, very quickly.

White says the behavioural responses would be immediately recognisable to us as pain, if we observed them in our pets or friends. “Which raises the question, why don’t we make the same inference here?” The answer, he says, has to do with human history, culture and insects’ lack of similarity to us.

Crickets that came into contact with a hot probe ‘overwhelmingly’ directed their attention to the affected antenna, according to a study Photograph: Obed Guayamiz Culqui/Getty Images

Science is slowly moving the dial, and revealing more and more about insect brains, behaviour and experiences.

“These aren’t just little machines,” says White. “They have rich capabilities to learn, to make complex decisions and trade-offs.”

Studies have shown bumblebees engage in play-like behaviour by rolling coloured wooden balls, while stressed bees show signs of pessimism.

The New York Declaration on Animal Consciousness, signed by more than 500 leading scientists and philosophers, acknowledges a “realistic possibility of conscious experience” in all vertebrates and many invertebrates, including insects.

Animal welfare laws are catching up, with some countries recognising sentience in invertebrates like cephalopods and crustaceans.

Associate Prof Kate Umbers from Western Sydney University, and the managing director of Invertebrates Australia, says it makes sense that insects could be next. “Evolutionarily speaking, insects are a crustacean on land, they share a common ancestor.”

People underestimate insects “all the time”, says Umbers, who was not involved in the study. “Humans are notoriously not very good at appreciating things that are different from them.”

Insects may be tiny and have more legs, but they are capable of remarkable feats and intelligence, she says. Bogong moths, for example, navigate over hundreds of kilometres, at night, to a place they’ve never been before.

“What I hope this study can do is inspire people to look past the differences between humans and insects, and instead embrace empathy, that they naturally feel towards other living things.

“It challenges us to think more carefully about the way we interact with these species – and to not reach for the bug spray.”

To date, most research into insect pain and cognition has concerned bees. But the question of pain is particularly pertinent for crickets – the chickens and cows of the insect world – farmed in their billions and trillions for food, feed and research, White says.

“If they’re capable of having better and worse lives, then we should take that into consideration.”

Sen. Pete Ricketts wins Nebraska primary, faces Dan Osborn in fall

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Republican Sen. Pete Ricketts is a step closer to serving a full six-year term in the Senate, after winning renomination in red-leaning Nebraska’s primary.

Ricketts, who was appointed in 2023 to replace Ben Sasse, and who won a 2024 special election to fill out the final two years of Sasse’s term, topped four GOP primary challengers on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.

Ricketts now heads to this autumn’s midterm elections, where he will face off in what’s expected to be a competitive Senate race against independent candidate Dan Osborn, the industrial mechanic and military veteran who gave Republican Sen. Deb Fischer a scare in her 2024 re-election.

Tuesday’s primary was held with less than six months to go until the midterm elections, when Republicans aim to hold their razor-thin House and slim Senate majorities, and Democrats hope to ride a blue wave to escape the political wilderness.

Even though the Nebraska Democratic Party supports Osborn in the general election, community college instructor Cindy Burbank and pastor Bill Forbes faced off for the Democrats’ nomination in the primary.

Both candidates were last-minute filers, and some Nebraska Democrats alleged that Forbes jumped into the race so that a Democrat would be on the fall ballot and siphon votes away from Osborn to help Ricketts.

Peru presidential candidate Roberto Sanchez charged with financial crimes | Elections News

Prosecutor calls for leftist candidate to be jailed for five years and four months over false financial disclosures.

Peru’s public prosecutor’s office has accused leftist presidential candidate Roberto Sanchez of financial crimes, calling for him to be imprisoned for five years and four months.

The charges, unsealed on Tuesday, came hours after electoral authorities confirmed Sanchez was on track to advance to the country’s presidential run-off, scheduled for June 7.

According to the El Comercio newspaper, prosecutors allege that Sanchez, who is the candidate of the Juntos por el Peru (Together for Peru) party, filed false financial disclosures with the National Office of Electoral Processes related to campaign contributions between 2018 and 2020.

Prosecutors say Sanchez and his brother, William Sanchez, received more than 280,000 Peruvian soles ($81,720) in contributions and membership fees that were never disclosed in the party’s financial filings.

Sanchez is also accused of making false statements in administrative proceedings.

In addition to the jail term, prosecutors were also seeking a “permanent disqualification” of Sanchez from holding the office of president for the Juntos por el Peru party, according to El Comercio.

Sanchez’s lawyer rejected the accusations, telling local outlet RPP that the party’s treasurer, not Sanchez, was responsible for its financial filings.

A judge is expected to decide on May 27 whether the case will go to trial.

The charges emerged as vote counting from last month’s first-round election showed Sanchez advancing to a run-off against conservative rival Keiko Fujimori.

With 99.76 percent of ballots counted, Fujimori, the daughter of late former President Alberto Fujimori and a four-time presidential candidate, held a commanding lead with 17.17 percent of the vote.

Sanchez, running with the backing of jailed former President Pedro Castillo, stood at 12 percent, narrowly ahead of ultra-conservative former Lima Mayor Rafael Lopez Aliaga at 11.91 percent, a margin of roughly 15,000 votes.

The final result is expected by May 15.
