Trump says ceasefire on ‘life support’, slams Iran response to US proposal | US-Israel war on Iran News

0

Efforts between Washington and Tehran to reach an agreement continue to fall short, fueling concerns of return to war.

Donald Trump says the ceasefire with Iran is “on life support,” after dismissing Tehran’s response to a US peace proposal as “stupid.” The US president’s swift rejection of Iran’s response on Sunday has fuelled concerns that the 10-week-old conflict will drag on, and continue to paralyse shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Referring to the latest proposal, Trump said the ceasefire is “the weakest right now after reading that piece of garbage they sent us.”

“I didn’t even finish reading it,” he said. “It’s on life support.”

Days after Washington floated a proposal aimed at reopening negotiations, Iran on Sunday released a response focused on ending the war on all fronts, including in Lebanon, where US ally Israel is fighting Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters.

Tehran also demanded compensation for war damage, emphasised its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, called on the United States to end its naval blockade, guarantee no further attacks, lift sanctions and remove the ban on Iranian oil sales.

Trump also claimed on Monday that Iran is willing to ‌give the United States “the nuclear dust”, referring to Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, and said only China and ‌the ‌US have the capability to retrieve it.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman defended its proposal, saying that Iranian demands are “reasonable”.

“The only thing we have demanded are Iran’s legitimate rights,” Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday.

The search for an agreement between the US and Iran has so far proved elusive, with Trump threatening a return to war without a series of concessions that Tehran has framed as maximalist and incompatible with its sovereignty. Iranian officials have also expressed a lack of trust in the US, which has previously attacked Iran during periods of negotiation.

Uncertainty around the conflict has continued to unsettle the global economy, as the Strait of Hormuz – the crucial shipping route for oil and gas exports from the Middle East – has effectively remained shut.

The US is blockading Iranian ports in a bid to cut off Iran’s ability to export oil.

“Our demand is legitimate: demanding an end to the war, lifting the [US] blockade and piracy, and releasing Iranian assets that have been unjustly frozen in banks due to US pressure,” Baghaei said.

“Safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and establishing security in the region and Lebanon were other demands of Iran, which are considered a generous and responsible offer.”

Gatlinburg police free black bear that locked itself inside hotel bathroom in wild viral video

A black bear in Tennessee decided to ditch the great outdoors in favor of indoor plumbing.

In a video that’s now going viral, officers with the Gatlinburg Police Department responded to a truly peak Smoky Mountains call this week after a black bear locked itself inside a bathroom at the Quality Inn & Suites in downtown Gatlinburg.

According to the police report obtained by OutKick, officers responded to the motel at approximately 2:33 a.m. Friday after an employee reported a bear inside the bathroom. Officer Quayvaughn McCollum wrote that an employee “observed a bear enter an exterior bathroom and lock itself inside.”

God forbid a guy wants a little privacy!

The footage shows officers carefully opening the bathroom door before the confused bear casually strolls out and heads down the sidewalk to freedom while officers and bystanders scatter out of the way. One officer beats sticks together while they both holler to deter the animal.

By the looks of it, though, the bear had no interest in the humans anyway.

Fortunately, the officers handled the situation perfectly, and nobody was injured during the ordeal. The whole thing ended with only some minor property damage.

The report notes that officers observed “a broken mirror shattered on the floor, which the bear had caused.” Damage was estimated at $50.

HERE’S HOW TO DO THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS WITHOUT TRAFFIC AND CROWDS

As anyone familiar with East Tennessee knows, black bears wandering through Gatlinburg neighborhoods, parking lots and hotels is hardly unusual this time of year. But one locking itself in a hotel bathroom? That’s a new one.

Anthropic’s bug-hunting Mythos was greatest marketing stunt ever, says cURL creator

0

cURL developer Daniel Stenberg has seen Anthropic’s Mythos, a model the AI biz has suggested is too capable at finding security holes to release publicly, scan his popular open source project. But after the system turned up just a single vulnerability, he concluded the hype around Mythos was “primarily marketing” rather than a major AI security breakthrough.

Stenberg explained in a Monday blog post that he was promised access to Anthropic’s Mythos model – sort of – through the AI biz’s Project Glasswing program. Part of Glasswing involves giving high-profile open source projects access via the Linux Foundation, but while Stenberg signed up to try Mythos, he said he never actually received direct access to the model. Instead, someone else with access ran Mythos against curl’s codebase and later sent him a report.

“It’s not that I would have a lot of time to explore lots of different prompts and doing deep dive adventures anyway,” Stenberg explained. “Getting the tool to generate a first proper scan and analysis would be great, whoever did it.”

That scan, which analyzed curl’s git repository at a recent master-branch commit, was sent back to him earlier this month, and it found just five things that it claimed were “confirmed security vulnerabilities” in cURL. Saying he had expected an extensive list of vulnerabilities, Stenberg wrote that the report “felt like nothing,” and that feeling was further validated by a review of Mythos’ findings.

“Once my curl security team fellows and I had poked on this short list for a number of hours and dug into the details, we had trimmed the list down and were left with one confirmed vulnerability,” Stenberg said, bringing us back to the aforementioned number.

As for the other four, three turned out to be false positives that pointed out cURL shortcomings already noted in API documentation, while the team deemed the fourth to be just a simple bug.

“The single confirmed vulnerability is going to end up a severity low CVE planned to get published in sync with our pending next curl release 8.21.0 in late June,” the cURL meister noted. “The flaw is not going to make anyone grasp for breath.”

That said, Mythos did find several other non-security bugs that Stenberg said the team is working on fixing, and he notes that their description and explanation were well done. Mythos can do good work, in other words, but it’s not a ground-breaking, game-changing AI model like Anthropic has claimed.

“My personal conclusion can however not end up with anything else than that the big hype around this model so far was primarily marketing,” Stenberg said in the blog post. “I see no evidence that this setup finds issues to any particular higher or more advanced degree than the other tools have done before Mythos.”

cURL code is no stranger to AI

To say cURL has become widely used in its nearly three decades of existence would be an understatement. Its wide reach has meant that its team has been running it through all sorts of static code analyzers and fuzz testing it since well before the dawn of the AI age. With AI’s rise, the cURL team has adapted, meaning Mythos is hardly the first AI to get its fingers on cURL’s codebase.

“These tools and the analyses they have done have triggered somewhere between two and three hundred bugfixes merged in curl through-out the recent 8-10 months or so,” Stenberg said of tools like AISLE, Zeropath, and OpenAI Codex Security that’ve tested cURL code. “A bunch of the findings these AI tools reported were confirmed vulnerabilities and have been published as CVEs. Probably a dozen or more.”

Stenberg’s experience with AI testing cURL, in other words, makes it a great candidate to see how effective Mythos can really be at finding more than the average AI.

As Stenberg noted elsewhere in his blog post, Mythos isn’t doing anything particularly novel when it comes to security discoveries: It might be a bit better at finding things than previous models, but “it is not better to a degree that seems to make a significant dent in code analyzing,” the cURL author noted.

Stenberg isn’t an AI doomer when it comes to its ability to improve software design, though. Yes, he may have closed the cURL bug bounty earlier this year due to an influx of sloppy, useless bug reports, but he also noted a few months prior to the bounty closure that some security researchers assisted by AI have made valuable reports

“AI powered code analyzers are significantly better at finding security flaws and mistakes in source code than any traditional code analyzers did in the past,” Stenberg said, adding an important qualifier for the Mythos moment: “All modern AI models are good at this now.”

Mythos isn’t any more creative than its creators

Both older AI models and security-focused tools like Mythos have a common limitation, as far as Stenberg is concerned: They’re only as good at finding security vulnerabilities as the humans who programmed them.

“AI tools find the usual and established kind of errors we already know about. It just finds new instances of them,” Stenberg said. “We have not seen any AI so far report a vulnerability that would somehow be of a novel kind or something totally new.”

As for Mythos, Stenberg remains unimpressed, calling it “an amazingly successful marketing stunt for sure” in his blog post.

In an email to The Register, Stenberg admitted that it’d be possible for AI models to actually discover new, novel types of vulnerabilities, but he’s still not convinced that they can go beyond what humans are capable of finding, given that they’re limited by our understanding of how software vulnerabilities work.

At the end of the day, Stenberg explained, when we talk about security, we’re only talking about code. “Source code is text and it feels like maybe we already know about most ways we can do security problems in it,” he pondered in his email.

In other words, like the valuable AI-assisted reports made to the cURL bug bounty program before its closure due to a flood of AI garbage, making valuable use of systems like Mythos is going to require humans to get creative. Sorry, no foisting your critical thinking onto a bot.

“Human researchers have always used tools when they look for security problems,” Stenberg told us. “Adding AIs to the mix gives the humans even more powerful tools to use, more ways to find problems. I expect that many security bugs going forward will be found by humans coming up with new ways and angles of prompting the AIs.”

Stenberg said that he hopes he’ll actually get his hands on Mythos so he can experiment with its capabilities, but he doesn’t seem to be holding out hope the promised access will materialize.

“I have been promised access and for all I know I will eventually get it,” Stenberg told us. “I just don’t know when.” ®

Drew Rasmussen and Kevin Gausman may get knocked around a bit as Rays visit Blue Jays

It is hard to believe, but we are almost a quarter of the way through the MLB season. Every year I grow older, I also feel like the years go faster, so I suppose the same can be said about the baseball year. It might be the right time to start assessing teams and get a feel for who is likely to make the postseason, and who will not. Two teams with postseason aspirations square off today as the Rays take on the Blue Jays.

The Tampa Bay Rays are one of the best teams in baseball with a strong 26-13 record. They have a winning road record, but about 75% of their losses have been while they don the road gray. I will say I was a bit surprised about the Rays’ performance in the early stretch of this season. The offense has been substantially better than I thought it would be. They always seem to make diamonds out of whatever pitching they have, but they have been extra special this year.

One of their top performers has been today’s starter, Drew Rasmussen. After being a swing-guy in 2024, he was a full-time starter in 2025 and pitched excellently. He has carried that over into this season and is 2-1 for the year with a 2.95 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP. Rasmussen has made four road starts, and his ERA is almost two runs higher as a visitor than as a home pitcher. None of the starts, with maybe the 3.2 innings and four runs allowed to Pittsburgh, were that bad, though. His last start was against the Blue Jays, and he allowed three earned runs over six innings.

The Toronto Blue Jays, coming off a World Series loss to the Dodgers, haven’t found their footing this year. They are 18-22 for the season, and they are 12-9 at home. The offense doesn’t seem to be the problem. They are hitting about in line with what the production from the Rays has been this year. So, perhaps that is a reason for optimism. A reason for pessimism is that their pitching staff has a 4.08 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP.

One guy who has performed better than their club overall is today’s starter, Kevin Gausman. For the year, he is 2-2 with a 3.09 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP. He’s been very comfortable pitching on the home rubber as well. He is 1-1 with a 1.88 home ERA in 24 innings of work. He has a quality start in three of four home games and five of his eight outings.

I played this game last time that Rasmussen and Gausman squared off. That was a 4-3 win for the Rays. Both starters performed admirably. It doesn’t always mean they will do well in the next outing, though. Pitchers, in general, are easier to hit when the hitter has seen them recently. Rasmussen and Gausman are not ordinary hurlers, and should be able to navigate fairly well.

I do think both of them are probably going to allow a couple of runs tonight. I’ve been impressed with both offenses. I’m backing the over tonight as I think both teams will get a few runs off the starters and then we see the rest come off the bullpen.

Newly elected Reform councillor resigns after social media claims | Reform UK

0

A Reform UK councillor has resigned days after being elected, after he allegedly celebrated on social media the rape of a Sikh woman in the Midlands, declared white people the “master race” and called Muslim people “rats”.

Stuart Prior was elected as a councillor for Essex county council last Thursday, winning 2,404 votes, the highest total of any candidate in the ward.

Prior was one of 53 Reform UK councillors elected to the authority, giving the insurgent party overall control of the council. He also won a seat on Rochford district council.

A spokesperson for Reform UK confirmed Prior had resigned his positions for personal reasons and that his party membership had been revoked.

Prior has been criticised for the remarks he has allegedly made on social media. In posts on X in November 2025, he allegedly described white people as “the master race” and suggested that white people had “larger brains”.

In other posts, Prior allegedly said “Muslims are dirt”, allegedly wrote that “Muslims are awful, globally” and allegedly declared: “There cannot be a genocide against Muslims. It’s only ever self-defence against those rats.”

The posts were identified in a dossier compiled by the anti-extremism group Hope Not Hate.

Prior responded to the Mirror: “That’s not what I would have put down” and “this isn’t me” when confronted with the messages.

Prior is also alleged to have said black people should be “segregated”, and asked why “black folk bitch about” the slave trade. On 27 October 2025, he allegedly wrote, “good.reap it” in response to a post by the MP Zarah Sultana about a Sikh woman being raped.

The Guardian has attempted to contact Prior. He has previously denied making the comments or being racist.

A Sikh women in her 20s was raped in Walsall last year. Last week, John Ashby, 32, was sentenced to life in prison for the racially motivated rape.

In the runup to the local elections, four Labour MPs from the metropolitan borough of Sandwell sent a joint letter to Reform’s leader in Sandwell, Ray Nock, calling on him to condemn the comments.

“The community in Sandwell was shaken to its core last year after a Sikh woman was raped in a racially aggravated attack. It has now emerged that a Reform candidate in Essex, Stuart Prior, has celebrated this attack,” the letter reads.

“Will you, as the leader of the Reform party in Sandwell, condemn this disgusting behaviour and will you write to Nigel Farage requesting Stuart Prior be immediately withdrawn as a Reform party candidate?”

A Reform UK spokesperson said: “Stuart Prior informed us that he was resigning from his elected positions for ‘personal reasons’. We have also revoked his Reform UK membership.”

Panipat News: Broken road of NH-44 bypass became the reason for accidents, problems of drivers increased due to deep potholes.

0

The condition of the bypass built on the banks of the canal on National Highway-44 in Panipat has become a cause of great trouble for the drivers these days. Hundreds of small and big vehicles going towards Hisar, Rohtak, Jind and Rajasthan pass through this route every day, but the broken road and deep potholes have made the journey risky. Due to the gravel and rough surface on the road, there is always a fear of an accident.

Local people say that two-wheeler drivers are facing the most trouble. There is a constant danger of the bike slipping in deep potholes. The situation becomes more dangerous at night because due to the presence of a canal on the roadside, a small mistake can lead to a major accident. If people are to be believed, many vehicles have already fallen into the canal.

Fed up with daughter-in-law’s attire in Panipat, mother-in-law and father-in-law consumed poison, both died during treatment

Bike drivers are in greater danger

A driver said that there are so many big potholes on the road that accidents are happening every day. A few days ago a vehicle had fallen into the canal. The road has been lying broken for a long time, but no permanent solution has been made. The condition of the road is continuously worsening, while the responsible departments are limited to giving only assurances.

Drivers expressed their displeasure

The second driver expressed his displeasure and said that the condition of the road has been the same for 12-13 years. Toll tax is collected from us in full, but no one pays attention towards road improvement. Due to bad roads, parts of vehicles are breaking and additional expenses have to be incurred on repairs. Especially commercial vehicle drivers are facing financial losses every day.

Traveling with children is also difficult

Another bike driver said that it has become extremely unsafe to pass through this road with family and children. A young man told that suddenly the bike slips in the potholes. For a person passing through here for the first time, an accident is inevitable.

Local people alleged that quality was not taken care of during the construction of the road, due to which the road broke down within a short time. Drivers of heavy vehicles say that due to the poor condition of the road, traffic jams often occur.

Many trucks and big vehicles are stuck in potholes. According to drivers, the road became worse after the bridge construction work started. Due to rainwater filling and pressure of heavy vehicles, the road kept breaking.

Administration admitted road problem

Panipat Deputy Commissioner Dr. Virendra Dahiya said that as per the instructions of the Chief Minister, bad roads and black spots are being identified. The problem of the related road is in the cognizance of the administration. Instructions have been given to NHAI regarding road repair and the work will be started soon.

The bypass road is under NHAI. Talks have taken place with the project director. As soon as the material is available, the repair work will be started in a day or two. Many times roads get damaged due to rain, but the department has been instructed to carry out repair work immediately.
