Religious issues have once again gained prominence in the politics of West Bengal. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while addressing an election rally in Malda, took a strong stand on the proposal of a structure like Babri Masjid. He clearly said that no such structure will be allowed to be built in Bengal. He termed newly formed Aam Janata Unnayan Party chief Humayun Kabir as an agent of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Election war broke out on Kabir’s plan
Amit Shah directly targeted Humayun Kabir and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said that this is India and no one can build a structure like Babri Masjid here. He also claimed that there will be a change of power in the state after the upcoming assembly elections and the BJP will put a stop to such schemes. Amit Shah alleged that Kabir is working at the behest of Mamata Banerjee and both have similar thinking. He also said that this dream of Mamata Banerjee and her allies will be broken after the election results.
Addressing an election rally in Gazole, Shah said, ‘Mamata didi and Humayun Kabir listen to me carefully. This is India and no capable person can build Babri Masjid here. He further said, Humayun Kabir, listen with your ears open when I say that BJP will not allow the construction of the mosque. Mamata Banerjee and her nephew should also know that their dreams of building a mosque will be shattered on May 5.
In fact, Humayun Kabir had proposed to build a mosque on the lines of Babri Masjid in Beldanga area of Murshidabad district. The issue became further controversial when the foundation stone for the project was laid on 6 December, the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition. It is being told that this mosque is being built on about 8 acres of private land at a cost of Rs 86 crore.
Political allegations and counter-allegations also intensified
At the same time, political allegations and counter-allegations regarding this issue have also intensified. TMC made serious allegations against BJP through a viral video, in which it was alleged that there was an agreement between Kabir and BJP leaders. However, the authenticity of this video could not be confirmed. Rejecting these allegations, Amit Shah said that BJP will not go with Humayun Kabir under any circumstances, even if it has to sit in the opposition for a long time.
