
The weather remains pleasant in the western Himalayan regions, plains of north-west India and adjacent central parts due to rain with sporadic thunderstorms and strong winds. Although the glacier has broken in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, there is no news of any damage. Due to the activity of Western Disturbance, sporadic rains are expected in these areas till May 7 and winds will blow at a speed of 40-60 km per hour. During this period, there is also a possibility of hailstorm and lightning in some areas. Yellow alert has been issued regarding rain in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
The Meteorological Department said on Friday that hailstorm occurred at many places in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Telangana. Winds at a speed of 50-75 km per hour and light rain with thunder were recorded at isolated places in Bihar, Madhya Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, West Bengal Ganga plains, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, East Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Western Uttar Pradesh.
Winds reaching speeds of 30-50 kmph gusted at isolated places over Konkan, Marathwada, Arunachal Pradesh, Vidarbha, Assam, East Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Bihar. At the same time, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) has been recorded at isolated places in Kerala and Mahe, while heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) has been recorded at isolated places in Assam, Odisha, South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
North India: Snow on the mountains, storm and rain in the plains
The weather will be active in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between May 2 and 6. There is a possibility of snowfall in high altitude areas along with light to moderate rain. Winds can blow at a speed of 40–50 km per hour along with thunderstorms. At the same time, the weather patterns of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh will remain changed. There is a possibility of thunderstorm and rain in Rajasthan between May 2 and 6, while in Uttar Pradesh there may be rain between May 4 to 6. Strong winds and dust storms may also occur. Northeast India: Storm, rain and landslides
The weather will remain active in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha for the next one week. Light to moderate rain may be accompanied by strong winds at a speed of 50 to 70 km per hour. There is a possibility of hailstorm in Odisha on May 2, while an alert of heavy rain has been issued in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till May 3. There is a possibility of widespread rain over the entire Northeast including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya for the next four to six days. Some areas may receive rainfall up to 204.4 mm. Due to continuous rain, the risk of waterlogging and landslides has increased.
West India: Somewhere there is storm and somewhere there is relief
There are chances of light to moderate rain and thunderstorm in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha. There may be a strong storm in Chhattisgarh on May 4, in which the wind speed can reach 70 km per hour. However, the effect of heat wave will continue in Vidarbha, due to which a dual form of weather will be seen here. Storm and rain are expected in Rajasthan between May 2-6, while a heat wave warning has been issued in Western Rajasthan on May 2-3. During this period, a slight increase and then a decline may be seen in the temperature.
Danger of rain and lightning in South India
There is a possibility of light to moderate rain in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana till May 4. There may be heavy rain in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. There may also be incidents of hailstorm and lightning in some areas. Sultry heat will persist in the coastal areas, due to which people will have to face uncomfortable weather.
If there are long days, there is forecast of rain somewhere.
According to the Meteorological Department, in May, heat wave may prevail for more days than normal in some parts of the country, while in some parts, more than normal rainfall is expected. Meteorological Department Director General Mrityunjay Mahapatra said that there is a possibility of heat wave lasting more days than normal in some parts of the Himalayan foothills, eastern coastal states, Gujarat and Maharashtra. During this period the minimum temperature is likely to be above normal.
However, minimum temperatures are likely to be below normal over many areas of northwest India, parts of central India, adjoining areas of Peninsular India and southern parts of north-eastern India. He also said that except some parts of East, Northeast and East Central India, other parts of the country may receive more than normal rainfall this month. Southwest Monsoon may reach Andaman and Nicobar Islands around 14-16 May.
