Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat has made a big claim amid the dispute with the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Phogat has shared a screen shot of ITA’s e-mail in which it is written that she can register for the Senior Open Ranking Tournament being held in Gonda. Actually, there is a tussle between WFI and Vinesh regarding playing in this tournament.
WFI has banned playing in domestic tournaments
WFI had recently sent a notice to Vinesh on allegations of indiscipline and violation of anti-doping rules. The federation had also made it clear that she cannot participate in the domestic tournament. Vinesh responded to this notice by claiming that she is eligible to participate in the National Open Ranking Tournament. However, WFI had opposed it. Meanwhile, despite the ban, Vinesh reached the competition venue.
Screen shot of ITA’s email
Vinesh now shared the screen shot of ITA’s e-mail and wrote, I had received written approval from ITA that I can register for the Senior Open Ranking Tournament to be held in Gonda from January 1, 2026. I came to Gonda today to attend it, but I was neither allowed to complete the verification nor was allowed to use the training hall. I don’t want privileges, but I just want to play on merit.
I have been given written permission by the ITA to compete from 1 Jan, 2026, I was allowed to register for the 2026 Senior Open Ranking Tournament at Nandini Nagar, Gonda on the 28th of April, 2026.
