
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Kashi, the parliamentary constituency of India and the world’s oldest living city, is once again going to witness a historic event of international level. After the successful hosting of G-20 meetings, now the second meeting of BRICS Culture Working Group is going to be held in Varanasi on 4th and 5th June. Senior diplomats, policy makers, cultural experts and special representatives from India and abroad will participate in this meeting proposed at Taj Hotel on June 4-5.
Under the Yogi government, Uttar Pradesh is today becoming a major center of global events. It is the result of the continuous efforts being made by the state government for conservation of cultural heritage, tourism development, promotion of local products and employment generation that Kashi is once again getting the opportunity to present its rich cultural identity on the international platform.
During the meeting, a special exhibition of world famous GI tagged and ODOP (One District-One Product) products of Kashi will also be organized. In this exhibition, 6 unique products of 6 artisans from the rich craft tradition of Varanasi will be displayed. All these products are living symbols of the age-old art, craftsmanship and cultural heritage of Kashi. Through the exhibition, foreign delegates will not only be introduced to the uniqueness of these products, but local artists and artisans will also get an opportunity to market their products to the global market.
Under the leadership of Yogi government, the state government has implemented many schemes to promote conservation, marketing and export of ODOP and GI tagged products. Through these efforts, thousands of craftsmen, weavers and artisans have got new identity and employment opportunities. Today, the handicraft products of Kashi are making their special identity not only in the country but also in many countries of the world.
