US President Donald Trump on Thursday described his Paraguayan counterpart Santiago Pena as a young and attractive man. Trump was addressing the first meeting of the Peace Board. Here he welcomed the world leaders one by one.
Trump said, it is always good to be young and beautiful. This does not mean that we have to like you. I don’t like young, handsome men. I love women. I have no interest in men. The people present there were seen laughing uneasily at his statement.
What happened in the first meeting of the Peace Board?
The Peace Board meeting focused on the next phase of the ceasefire in Gaza. Many prominent leaders of the world attended this meeting. On this occasion, Trump said that this board will not only establish peace in Gaza, but will also intervene in other conflict-torn areas of the world. He said, we will help Gaza. We will make it right. Will make it successful. Will make it peaceful and will do similar things in other places also.
He also said that its members ‘can do things that many people can’t even think of.’ Representatives of 40 countries were present in this meeting, including heads of state. The President said that the board members have announced a contribution of seven billion dollars for the reconstruction of Gaza and a commitment of 10 billion dollars has been announced from the US. He said this amount was small compared to the cost of the war.
Before the meeting, some US allies had expressed concern that Trump might try to challenge the United Nations, because his goal is to increase the role of this organization in resolving global conflicts. In his speech, Trump said that he will strengthen the United Nations. He also said that the Peace Board will keep an eye on this historic international institution and ensure that it functions properly.
Several world leaders, including Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Argentinian President Javier Milli, who are Trump allies, were present at the meeting. Participants were given red Make America Great Again (MAGA)-style hats with ‘USA’ written on them. Trump described the Peace Board as a central part of his political legacy and said peace is a central objective of his second term. The meeting was held at the Donald J. Trump US Institute of Peace. Trump said it was Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s idea to name it the ‘Donald J. Trump US Institute of Peace’.
