United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said that India’s lasting contribution to the world and the UN agenda is very important. He said that today the role of emerging countries like India is continuously increasing in the world and this is a big positive trend.

According to Antonio Guterres, India has now become an important leader in almost every major discussion of the United Nations. He also said that democracy is weakening in many parts of the world, but India stands as a strong democratic country.

India’s contribution to UN peacekeeping missions

Thanking India, the UN chief said, around 5000 Indian soldiers and policemen are deployed in UN peacekeeping missions. India sent an all-women police unit to Liberia in 2007 – a major achievement in UN history. This step was considered very important towards gender equality.

The changing economic power of the world

Antonio Guterres pointed out a big trend – in which the share of developed countries like G7 in the global economy is gradually decreasing. Whereas the share of emerging countries like India is increasing rapidly. He said that this will increase the chances of creating a world with more justice, equality and peace in the future.

The UN Secretary General further said – The structure of the UN Security Council is outdated and to some extent unfair. Guterres will visit India

Antonio Guterres will soon visit India and attend the India AI Impact Summit. He will meet President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi. During this time he will participate in meetings on AI, energy transition and renewable energy. He also described India as a global leader in renewable energy.
