The special court of Banda district of UP has sentenced to death the suspended JE Rambhavan of the Irrigation Department and his wife Durgavati in the heinous case of sexual exploitation of 34 children and making their obscene pictures and videos viral. The court separated the file of the third accused. He is accused of sharing information through e-mail. He is out of jail after getting bail.
Special POCSO court judge Pradeep Kumar Mishra, in a detailed 163-page judgment, termed this despicable crime as the most heinous. The court said, crimes were committed on a large scale in many districts.
The extreme low moral standards of the culprits have made this an extraordinary and despicable crime. There is no scope for improvement in these, hence there is a need for harshest punishment. The court directed the UP government to give compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the victim children.

Besides, instructions were given to distribute the amount recovered from the house of the accused equally among the victim children. The court found Ram Bhavan guilty under different sections and imposed a fine of Rs 6.45 lakh, while a fine of Rs 5.40 lakh has been imposed on his wife Durgachati.

Secret revealed due to Interpol complaint: CBI action
The foundation of this entire case was laid when Interpol sent a detailed e-mail complaint to the CBI office in Delhi. In the complaint, it was told that the accused Ram Bhavan was using three different mobile numbers and was selling obscene videos and photos of children abroad through the dark web. Interpol, which operates in 195 countries, and this complaint marked an important first step towards uncovering this international child sexual exploitation ring.

CBI Public Prosecutor Dara Singh Meena said that following three e-mail complaints received from Interpol, the CBI investigated the case thoroughly for months. During this time, he collected strong evidence to prove that this case was extremely serious and the accused were guilty. After collecting all the evidence, CBI along with the police raided the residence of the accused couple in SDM Colony, Chitrakoot on 16 November 2020.

Arrests, attempts to intimidate witnesses and a wide network
Rambhavan Kushwaha and Durgavati were arrested during the raid. However, before this, Durgavati had attempted to take the three victim children and their guardians to a lawyer, in order to influence the case. Even when she was going with the victim’s parents, the CBI team was following her. Additionally, Durgavati also continued threatening the witnesses through phone.
