
Voting for one Rajya Sabha seat in Tamil Nadu will be held on June 18. The Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK)-led alliance has given this seat to its ally Congress. According to this, this seat to be filled through Rajya Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu has been allotted to Congress, a constituent party of the TVK-led alliance in the state.
Actually, recently Tamil Nadu assembly elections were held. In these elections, AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam was elected to the assembly. After this he resigned from Rajya Sabha, due to which this seat became vacant.
TVK-Congress alliance issued statement
In a statement, the alliance said that this seat falling vacant from Tamil Nadu is to be filled through the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. It has been given to Congress under seat sharing. This seat has become vacant due to the resignation of AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam.

Earlier, Congress’s Tamil Nadu election in-charge Girish Chodankar met the Chief Minister during the day. He said, I have just met the Chief Minister and I have requested him to give us this seat, which will help us in the work of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.
He further said, I think the Chief Minister is considering our request. The final decision on the names of the candidates is taken by the Central Election Committee of the Congress. As soon as this seat is declared a Congress seat, we will request our Central Election Committee to decide the candidate.
On which day will the elections and counting of votes take place?
As per the election schedule, the notification was issued on June 1 and the nomination process started from the same day. The last date for filing nominations has been fixed as June 8, while scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on June 9. Candidates will be able to withdraw their names till June 11. If necessary, voting will be held on June 18 and counting of votes will also take place on the same day.
