Today the Supreme Court is going to give an important decision on the long standing demand to give educational recognition to Rajasthani language in Rajasthan. This matter is related to starting the study of Rajasthani language in the schools of the state and including Rajasthani in the language list of teachers. There is curiosity among litterateurs, educationists, students and Rajasthani language lovers across the state regarding the decision.
Demand raised through PIL
This PIL was filed on behalf of Padam Mehta. The petition states that the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan and the Rajasthani language spoken by crores of people have not yet received proper constitutional and educational recognition.
Demand for recognition like other regional languages
The petitioner has demanded that just as Sindhi, Gujarati and other regional languages have got a place in the education system, similarly Rajasthani language should also be included in the language category of teachers.
Emphasis given on appointment of qualified teachers
It was also argued in the petition that if effective teaching of Rajasthani language is to be ensured in the state, then appointment of qualified teachers who speak and understand Rajasthani will be necessary. Without this, efforts for language conservation and promotion will remain incomplete.
Language protection issues raised in Supreme Court
During the hearing, this issue was raised prominently in the Supreme Court that when other regional languages of the country can be recognized in the education system, then it cannot be considered appropriate to keep Rajasthani language separate from it. Many constitutional aspects related to language preservation, cultural identity and right to education were also discussed in the court.

It is believed that if the decision comes in favor of Rajasthani language, then the way can be cleared to start teaching Rajasthani subject in government and private schools of the state.
