Taking an important decision, the Supreme Court Collegium has approved the appointment of nine new judges in the Calcutta High Court. This decision is being considered important in resolving the pending cases in the judiciary and strengthening the judicial system. The collegium passed the resolution in its meetings held on May 11 and 12, which were presided over by the Chief Justice of India (CJI).

The names of nine senior advocates who have been approved by the collegium are as follows:

  • Aryak Dutt

  • Atarup Banerjee

  • Sandeep Kumar De

  • Parth Pratim Roy

  • Sudeep Deb

  • Anuj Singh

  • Arjun Rai Mukherjee

  • Rishad Medora

All these names have been approved for appointment to the post of judge of Calcutta High Court.



How is the appointment process of judges?

  5. Finally the appointment is considered officially effective after the assent of the President of India and issuance of gazette notification.

  6. The purpose of this entire process is to maintain transparency in the judiciary and ensure the appointment of qualified judges.

It includes the Chief Justice of India along with the senior most judges of the Supreme Court.
