Pallekkala: Fielding coach R Sridhar said that Sri Lanka has left behind the 0-3 defeat to England before the T20 World Cup. The Sri Lankan team is now well prepared to play in different conditions in the Super Eight match against England on Sunday. England had defeated Sri Lanka badly in the three-match T20 series just seven days before the start of the ongoing T20 World Cup, but Sridhar said that the performance of Harry Brook’s team will not matter in this match.

Sridhar said in the press conference before the match, “This match is very different from the bilateral series at this stage of this tournament. I mean, bilateral series and private leagues do not have the same pressure as World Cup Super Eight matches and this is for all teams. Be it England, Sri Lanka or India or Pakistan. Be it any team. When you are playing Super Eight matches, you will not play with as much freedom as you do in bilateral series or private leagues.

Sri Lanka is ready to deal with England

He said, “Therefore the pressure will be equal on both the teams. Teams which play well under pressure, teams which make fewer mistakes, have the possibility of progressing. The former fielding coach of India said that he also learned a lot of positive things from the series against England. He said, “In the first match, we were out for around 130 runs. But learning from this, we probably scored 180-190 in the next match. So this is the lesson learned from this. But now our bowlers are not like that. Wanindu Hasaranga is injured. Mathisha Pathirana is injured. That’s why our bowling attack is a little weak. But we have learned lessons.

Sridhar said that his bowlers will have to implement plans to stop England’s aggressive batting line-up. He said, “The England team is one of the best teams in the world. They have some great ‘powerhitters’. Therefore, we will depend on the bowlers to implement the strategy clearly. There will come a time when your ball will hit a six or a four. But you have to try to make a comeback and try to bowl the ‘dot ball’.
