Roster will change in Delhi HC from July 1, Manoj Jain will look after MP-MLA case in place of Swarn Kanta Sharma

Now the roster has changed in Delhi High Court. Justice Manoj Jain will now hear criminal cases related to MPs and MLAs from July 1, 2026, as part of the regular roster change in the High Court after the summer holidays.

Till now these cases were before the bench of Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma. Many high-profile cases were heard during the tenure of Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma. These included the case related to Delhi Excise case, in which former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal got relief from the trial court.

Changes made in the jurisdiction of judges

Changes will be made in the jurisdiction of judges of Delhi High Court from July 1. According to the new roster, now Manoj Jain will hear the cases of MP and MLA. Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma will look at the civil writ roster. This includes sexual harassment of women at workplace, RTI and other related matters. Swarn Kanta Mines will also look into the writ petition cases related to DTC, Urban Arts Commission and Airport Authority of India.

Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma came into limelight during the hearing in the Delhi Liquor Policy Scam. In fact, he had rejected the petition of AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. Arvind Kejriwal had demanded to exclude Kanta from hearing the case. However, Swarn Kanta had rejected the appeal to be removed from the case.

Kejriwal had boycotted Swarn Kanta Sharma

After getting relief from the trial court, Kejriwal boycotted the proceedings of Justice Sharma’s court. After which the court initiated contempt proceedings against him and some others. Under the new roster, Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma has now been given the responsibility of hearing civil writ petitions.
