An unemployed youth from Russia got himself arrested by making a false bomb threat to get accommodation and food facilities. The court sentenced him to more than three years of imprisonment and said that his action could have posed a threat to people’s lives.

Sometimes life brings a person to such a point where even the understanding of right and wrong becomes blurred due to compulsion. When hunger in the stomach, lack of a roof over the head and worry about the future together surround a person, his patience gradually starts breaking. He tries again and again, but every failure reduces his confidence. In such circumstances, the power to think and understand also becomes weak. Man starts thinking only about his basic needs – like food, shelter and security. When he does not see any right path, sometimes he takes such decisions which he probably would never have taken under normal circumstances. A shocking incident that came to light from Russia is also similar. There a young man chose to send himself to jail just to get shelter and two meals a day.
This case is related to a young man named Oleg from Bashkortostan region of Russia. After completing high school, he had served in the army. After this he tried to get a job in Ufa city, but despite several attempts he did not get the job. He neither had a house to live in nor any money in his pocket. Constant failure and hunger had broken him from within. Ultimately he planned to take such a step that he could at least get the facility to stay and eat in jail.
False bomb threat given in hotel
Last summer, Oleg first went to a hotel and told the staff that he had a bomb in his bag and that he was going to detonate it. He locked himself in the room and started shouting loudly. But no one believed his words. When his attempt failed, he left from there and went straight to Ufa Airport. In the middle of the airport terminal, he picked up the bag and started shouting that he had a bomb. He called for police and negotiating officers to be called and asked people to stay away. The security personnel noticed that no wire or explosive-like material was visible in the bag, they immediately controlled it and handed it over to the police. No bomb was found in the investigation.
Self confessed the truth, court sentenced
During interrogation, Oleg clearly admitted that he had deliberately lied so that he could be arrested. During mental examination, he was found completely healthy and was considered responsible for his work.
The court sentenced him to three years and two months. Now he will stay in jail, where he will get at least two meals a day and a place to stay exactly as he wanted. The court said that the false bomb threat could have spread fear and panic among the people and could have resulted in loss of lives. This is not the first case when someone has deliberately got himself arrested. Even before this, such stories have come to light, where people considered jail as a safe place due to poverty, illness or loneliness.
