
A horrifying case of how youth are risking their own and others’ lives in the race to get some likes and followers on social media has come to light from Sirohi district of Rajasthan. Here, two youths found it difficult to make a reel (Instagram Reel) of ‘washing’ a Scorpio car by pouring diesel on it at a petrol pump. As soon as the video went viral, Sirohi police took strict action and arrested both the youths and confiscated the Scorpio.
According to the information, a video was becoming increasingly viral on social media. In this video, a young man was seen pouring diesel on his Scorpio car and washing it in a dangerous manner in the petrol pump premises. This video was edited and shot as a stylish reel. Open use of inflammable substance like diesel in a highly sensitive area like a petrol pump was a huge negligence, which could have resulted in a major and fatal accident at any time.
Immediate action on SP’s instructions
Taking strict cognizance of the viral video, Sirohi Superintendent of Police (SP) Pushpendra Singh ordered immediate investigation and action. Paldi M police station, while conducting a quick investigation, identified the youth seen in the video as Mahipal Singh, resident of Chhiba village, and another of his associates. The police took both the accused into custody, interrogated them and arrested them on charges of disturbing the peace. Along with this, the Scorpio vehicle used in the stunt has also been immediately confiscated.
Playing with security in the desire to go viral
Police officials said that preliminary inquiry has revealed that these youth had done this dangerous stunt just as a hobby and to become famous on social media. He had no idea that his ‘reel’ would land him straight in jail.
Strict warning from police
The police have made it clear that this type of action in public places and especially in sensitive areas like petrol pumps could have invited a major accident. Sirohi Police has given a clear message that ignoring safety standards and law in the name of reels and stunts will not be tolerated under any circumstances and strict action will continue in such cases in future also. The police have also appealed to the general public to immediately inform the police about any such dangerous activity.
