
The State Election Commission has intensified preparations for the general elections to be held in the urban bodies of the state in 2026. The Commission has issued instructions to all the District Election Officers to start the special revision program from March 24. According to the order of the Commission, the work of revision of voter lists should be started from 1 January 2026.
The date for filing claims and objections has been fixed till April 7, 2026 and for this a special campaign will also be run on March 29 and April 5, 2026. The last date for disposal of claims and objections has been kept as 15th April. Similarly, time has been fixed till April 20, 2026 for the preparation of supplementary lists. The final publication of the electoral roll will be done on April 22, 2026.

State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh said that in order to prepare for the election work, ward-wise voter lists of urban bodies will be prepared considering the previously published assembly voter lists (qualification date 01 January 2025) as the basis.
The updating of these lists, resolution of claims and objections and final publication will be done as per the scheduled schedule. Wards will be formed, parts will be determined and parts will be recombined as per the prescribed standards, so that the voter list of each ward remains well organized and balanced.

Under the prescribed schedule, the last date for preparation of Form-A is March 9, upload on e-list is March 11, last date for processing is March 13, checklist download is March 14, verification is March 16, freeze is March 19 and the date for uploading the draft voter list has been fixed as March 22, 2026. After this the work of publication of electoral rolls will be done.
He said that the date for publication of draft electoral rolls has been fixed as March 24, 2026. On March 25, electoral rolls will be read in wards and polling stations.
Rolls will be prepared on the basis of qualifying date
The State Election Commissioner said that the election rolls will be prepared on the basis of qualification date of January 1, 2026. Persons who have completed 18 years of age by this date will be eligible to get their names added to the voter list.
He said that the Commission has instructed all the concerned officers that the work of voter list should be done transparently and carefully, so that no eligible voter is deprived and no ineligible person is included in the list.
