The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a yellow cold health alert for England.

The alert for much of north and central England runs from 6am on 13 February until 8am on 16 February.

The alert means the forecast weather is likely to have minor impacts on health and social care services. This includes increased use of healthcare services by vulnerable people, with a greater risk to life for vulnerable people, the UKHSA has said.

Beef prices are soaring — and economists warn Americans shouldn’t expect relief anytime soon, as the U.S. cattle herd shrinks to its smallest size in 75 years.

The massive decrease in cattle numbers has been caused by years of drought, soaring costs and an aging ranching workforce. Agricultural economists and ranchers alike say rebuilding herds will take years, meaning beef prices aren’t likely to ease anytime soon.

“The biggest thing has been drought,” said Eric Belasco, head of the agricultural economics department at Montana State University. 

Years of dry weather have wiped out grasslands across the West and Plains, leaving ranchers without enough feed or water to sustain their herds. Many have been forced to sell cattle early, even the cows needed to produce the next generation of calves, making it difficult to rebuild America’s herds.

Data from the Kansas City Federal Reserve found that with each incremental increase in drought severity, cattle-producing regions see about a 12% drop in hay production, a 5% rise in hay prices, a 1% reduction in herd size and a 4% decline in farm income.

That slow recovery isn’t just economic — it’s biological, according to Derrell Peel, a professor of agricultural economics at Oklahoma State University.

“The fact of the matter is there’s really nothing anybody can do to change this very quickly,” Peel said. “We’re in a tight supply situation that took several years to develop, and it’ll take several years to get out of it.”

Peel, who specializes in livestock marketing, said it takes roughly two years to bring cattle to market and several years to rebuild herds — leaving little room for short-term relief.

And once herds shrink, the loss is hard to reverse. 

That reality is unfolding deep in ranch country. Cole Bolton, owner of K&C Cattle Company, whose pastures stretch along the soft edge of the Texas Hill Country, said the cattle industry is still in the early stages of recovery.

“I think it’s going to take a while to fix this crisis that we’re in with the cattle shortage,” Bolton told Fox News Digital. “My message to consumers is simple: folks, be patient. We’ve got to build back our herds.”

About 1,000 miles away, Will Harris, a fourth-generation cattleman in Bluffton, Georgia, said the ripple effects of the shrinking cattle herd are now landing squarely on consumers.

“The American cattle herd is smaller than it has been since the 1950s and that contraction has pushed beef prices to historic highs. Demand is strong, but domestic supply simply isn’t meeting it and that gap is being felt most by consumers,” said Harris, owner of White Oak Pastures.

According to U.S. Department of Agriculture data, the average price of beef in grocery stores climbed from about $8.40 per pound in March to $10.10 per pound by December 2025, a roughly 20% increase.

Despite rising prices, Americans haven’t blinked. In 2025, shoppers spent more than $45 billion on beef, buying more than 6.2 billion pounds, according to data from Beef Research, a contractor for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.

Spending jumped about 12% from a year earlier, while the amount of beef sold rose more than 4% — a sign consumers aren’t just paying more, they’re buying more.

The revelation comes as President Donald Trump temporarily expands beef imports from Argentina to blunt high grocery prices, while also laying out longer-term plans to bolster the U.S. cattle industry.

While imports could ease pressure at the grocery store in the short term, ranchers and economists alike say they are no substitutes for rebuilding the domestic cattle supply.

An Arizona Mexican restaurant run by immigrants has been swamped with hateful messages, calls and online reviews over it giving free meals to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, but the owners say they are responding with kindness.

“We’re trying to respond in a positive way, just because I know that putting more hate onto hate is not going to lead anywhere good,” Jorge Rivas, who owns Sammy’s Mexican Grill, told Fox News Digital on Tuesday.

In a recent video shared on social media by the outlet Pulso, Sammy’s Mexican Grill was highlighted as a restaurant that respects federal immigration enforcement agents and offers them free meals.

“Everything started because a local reporter asked me that the offer that we have on the wall of the restaurant about serving free meals to law enforcement officers, if that also extended to ICE agents,” said Rivas, who is originally from El Salvador.

“And I say, of course it does because they’re also law enforcement agents,” he said. “You know, there are agents that work for the federal government. Obviously, working under the great leadership of President Trump. And they’re enforcing the laws that have been on the books for many years, the same laws that were enforced by other presidents like Obama, Clinton, et cetera. So they are not doing anything different. And for us to offer free meals, it’s just our way of saying thank you for being out there, putting your life on the line, risking your safety.”

Since the video went viral, Rivas said the restaurant has been inundated with hateful reviews and calls, but that staff try to respond politely. 

“Many calls, we just say, you know, ‘God bless you, thank you, you have a great day,’” Rivas said. 

Rivas said the surge of one-star reviews has concerned him, noting that some online posts accuse the restaurant of unsanitary conditions or food-related illnesses.

“But still, after so many calls, it tends to get you,” he added. “You know, when you hear the negativity and the insults over and over, it bothers you, you know, whether you want it or not. And also all the one-star reviews on Google, I know sooner or later people are going to start wondering, you know, ‘Is this real, are they as horrible,’ because they write, ‘Oh this place is full of cockroaches,’ or ‘You know, I got so sick off eating a burrito.’” 

Rivas emphasized that the policy of offering free meals to law enforcement is not new.

“We have been doing this for the last five years or more,” Rivas said. “Officers have been coming over to our restaurant and, 90% of the time, they don’t pay for it. Sometimes they say, ‘I want to pay for it because I got my last two free meals. Last time I came here, I got free meals,’ so they do pay every once in a while, but most of the time they do not. So this is not something new that we just started to do a couple of days ago.”

Rivas, an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump, has been active in state Republican politics. He ran unsuccessfully in the GOP primary for Arizona’s 7th Congressional District last year and even made a bid for the GOP gubernatorial nomination during the 2022 cycle.

Tensions surrounding ICE have increased after the death of Renee Nicole Good, who was shot and killed in January in Minneapolis by an ICE agent after she allegedly attempted to ram an officer with her vehicle.

Protests against federal agents have continued to escalate since the Border Patrol killing of Alex Pretti on Jan. 24.

In January, ICE reported that it has had an over 1,300% increase in assaults, a 3,200% increase in vehicle attacks aimed at officers and an 8,000% increase in death threats.

Rivas told Fox News Digital that his message to the people who are protesting is to “use their life and their time doing something better.”

“I know that many people feel that they need to have a goal, they need to have a purpose in their life,” Rivas said. “And they think that by confronting ICE agents or federal agents, that will fill the void that they have in their heart. They need to look for Jesus and for God for moral values and that will make them feel better.”

At least nine victims have been killed after a school shooting in a British Columbia town in Canada.

The shooting in Tumbler Ridge, a small town with a population of just 2400, is one of the deadliest mass casualty events in Canada’s recent history.

Here’s what we know so far.

Suspect among people killed

Police say they received a report of an active shooter at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, which has around 175 students, at 1.20pm on Tuesday (8.20pm UK time).

When officers entered and searched the school, they found multiple victims dead.

An individual believed to be the gunman was also found dead with what appeared to be a self‑inflicted injury.

At least six victims died at the school, while another died while being transported to a hospital.

Another two victims were found dead in a nearby residence, believed to be in connection with the incident.

Overnight, police said approximately 25 others were being assessed for non‑life‑threatening injuries.

What do we know about the shooter?

Police superintendent Ken Floyd has told reporters that investigators had identified the suspect – but would not release a name.

A public alert sent to phones described the shooter as “a female in a dress with brown hair”.

Mr Floyd said the suspect’s motive remained unclear and that authorities are “not in a place to understand why or what may have motivated this tragedy”.

He added that police were still investigating how the victims were connected to the shooter.

‘I probably know every victim’

Canadians in the small town, located more than 600 miles north of Vancouver, near the border with Alberta, are grieving after the tragedy.

Darryl Krakowka, mayor of Tumbler Ridge, told reporters: “I broke down. It’s devastating.”

He described the town’s small community as a “big family” and added: “I have lived here for 18 years. I probably know every one of the victims.”

Canadian prime minister Mark Carney offered his “prayers and deepest condolences” to the families and friends of the victims after the “horrific” attack.

“I join Canadians in grieving with those whose lives have been changed irreversibly today, and in gratitude for the courage and selflessness of the first responders who risked their lives to protect their fellow citizens,” he said in a statement.

“Our ability to come together in crisis is the best of our country – our empathy, our unity, and our compassion for each other.”

The premier of British Columbia, David Eby, added: “Our hearts are in Tumbler Ridge tonight with the families of those who have lost loved ones.

“Government will ensure every possible support for community members in the coming days, as we all try to come to terms with this unimaginable tragedy.”

The school has said it will be closed for the rest of the week.

What are the gun laws in Canada?

While its neighbour has some of the most relaxed firearms legislation in the world, Canadian laws are much stricter.

Anyone wanting to possess a firearm in Canada needs to obtain a possession and acquisition licence (PAL).

Some types of firearm – such as handguns – need a restricted possession and acquisition licence (RPAL), which is issued by police.

In 2022, the government introduced a freeze on the importing, buying or selling of handguns.

A previous mass shooting in Nova Scotia in April 2020, in which an attacker killed 22 people, prompted the government to announce an immediate ban on the sale and use of assault-style weapons.

Justin Trudeau, then the prime minister, announced the ban of more than 1,500 models and variants of assault-style firearms, including two guns used by the 2020 gunman as well as the AR-15 and other weapons that have been used in a number of mass shootings in the US.

But almost six years later, possession of such firearms is not illegal – yet.

A compensation programme in which gun owners register their interest in turning in these firearms in exchange for cash runs until the end of March this year.

Owners have until the end of October to hand over any banned assault weapons.

After this, anyone in possession “will be breaking the law and could face criminal prosecution”, government briefing documents say.

It’s not yet been made public what type of firearm or firearms were used in the most recent attack.

After a long time, we saw a match in which even though India was not involved, the match happened so that people watched it whether they wanted to or not. The match between South Africa and Afghanistan took place today at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. If you would have watched the match on TV, you would have seen empty chairs in the stadium, but the match being played here was enough to make anyone’s heartbeat go up and down.

Here Afghanistan got three chances to win the match, all three on the last ball. The first chance was on the last ball of the 20 over match, the second chance was on the last ball of the first super over and the third chance was on the last ball of the second super over. Overall, all three balls went in South Africa’s favor and they won the match.

Playing first, the South African team scored 187 runs. When Afghanistan came out to chase, Noor Ahmed and Fazal Farooqui were batting on their behalf. This was Afghanistan’s last pair, the duo had to score 13 runs together. Noor Ahmed had strike and Kagiso Rabada was bowling. Noor Ahmed was caught out on the very first ball, but it turned out to be a no ball, after which he bowled a wide and dot ball.

Noor hit a six on the next ball. The third ball went dot, Noor tried to take a run, but both returned to their respective ends. Noor also played the fourth ball on which he took two runs and this also turned out to be a no ball. The next was a free hit on which only run out could happen. As soon as Noor played the shot, he made up his mind to take two runs, whereas Fazal Farooqui could not even take the start, there was a call of 2 runs, the second run remained incomplete by a distance of just 1 inch. Fazal’s bat remained in the air and he was declared out. This was the first occasion where Afghanistan could win.

Afghanistan were called to bat first. Gurbaz and Azmat Omarzai came to the crease. Ajmat hit amazing shots, 4 on the first ball, six on the second, after that he took a single-winger and hit a four on the fifth. Overall 17 runs were scored, South Africa needed 18 runs to win. The pair of Brewis and Miller came out to chase. Farooqui caught the ball, Brevis hit a six on the second ball and was out on the third. Now came Stubbs, who hit a four as soon as he arrived.

The fifth ball turned out to be a dot and on the sixth ball, Africa had to score 7 runs to win, which was not possible in any way. All Africa could do was to level the score by hitting a six, so that the next super over would happen and all Afghanistan had to do was to bowl the right ball, save the sixer, even if it would have gone for a four, but Afghanistan missed this last ball too and Fazal bowled a full toss. Stubbs hit a sky-high six and the score became equal. Here too Afghanistan lost the chance to win.

South Africa’s batsmen were padded, they got the batting first. Ajmat got the ball. Stubbs started the over by hitting a powerful six on the very first ball and hit it so much that Afghanistan was given the target of 24 runs. This time South Africa brought spinner Keshav Maharaj, Gurbaz and Navi came from here, the first ball was a dot and Navi was out on the second. Here the score of 24 runs i.e. 4 consecutive sixes, Gurbaz had the strike. Gurbaz hit three consecutive sixes.

I am a lifelong Illinoisan, and I have met my social contract. I’ve done everything properly. I’ve been law-abiding and I’ve been productive. And if I didn’t do these things, I would have been punished. So I’ve met my side of the bargain. But I want my governor to know that he hasn’t met his end of the bargain.

Recently, I sent Gov. J.B. Pritzker a letter asking straightforward questions about the sanctuary policies he champions—policies that protected an illegal alien who went on to kill my daughter. I asked for a response by January 19, 2026, the one-year anniversary of Katie’s death. To this day, I have received nothing.

The pain our family has experienced in the past 12+ months since Katie’s death is beyond description. I wish I could explain it to people. The pain is so unbearable at times it has made me almost unable to function. I am haunted by the knowledge that I will never walk my daughter down the aisle, I’ll never hold her children, I’ll never see her again. I would give anything – anything – and the rest of my days for just one more hour with her.

My questions to the governor were not ideological questions. They were factual, basic, and rooted in public safety. Among the 11 questions I asked, three stand out:

Second, it has since been revealed that Cucul-Bol, a Guatemalan national, was using the alias “Juan Jahaziel Saenz-Suarez,” falsely identifying himself as a Mexican national. Federal law-enforcement authorities were aware of this identity fraud. Why was an individual known to be using an alias allowed to remain in Illinois communities without meaningful verification?

We ask why this individual was in the country, in the state, and in our communities to begin with. Gov. Pritzker wants the public to stop asking that question. I will not.

Third, Cucul-Bol possessed an Illinois driver’s license despite being illiterate and unable to read or write in any language. How did he pass the written driver’s examination?

Gov. Pritzker was elected to represent me, my family, and every citizen of this state. Instead of responding, he chose silence. And when pressed by the media, his office attempted to deflect responsibility by pointing to a DUI narrative raised by Katie’s mother—as if intoxication somehow erases the fact that the man who killed my daughter should never have been here in the first place.

It does not.

Drunkenness cannot be separated from presence. If an illegal alien stabs someone to death while drunk, we do not excuse the crime by blaming alcohol alone. We ask why that individual was in the country, in the state, and in our communities to begin with. Gov. Pritzker wants the public to stop asking that question. I will not.

ICE WARNS ILLINOIS IS RELEASING VIOLENT CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS DESPITE DETAINERS, RISKING PUBLIC SAFETY

On January 19, 2025, my youngest daughter, Katie Abraham, was killed in Urbana, Illinois. She was only 20-years-old—brilliant, loving, full of promise, and planning a future that will now never come. She died instantly when the car she was riding in was rear-ended at nearly 80 miles per hour by a drunk driver, Julio Cucul-Bol, an illegal alien.

Cucul-Bol was using an alias while in Illinois and went undetected under a system unprepared—and unwilling—to enforce immigration law. First responders had to pry open the vehicle to reach Katie’s lifeless body.

She was gone before we could say goodbye.

The driver fled the scene but was later apprehended in Texas. He pleaded guilty to a 30-year prison sentence for killing two women, including my daughter, and injuring three others. Some say this is justice. It is not. When that sentence is divided among the five lives shattered that night, Katie’s life is effectively valued at about ten years. And because Illinois is a sanctuary state, we are forced to worry that even this sentence may not be fully served.

Gov. Pritzker likes to say immigration enforcement is the responsibility of the federal government. Yet in practice, he nullified federal immigration law and replaced it with his own. Without legislative consent or meaningful public accountability, he facilitated the entry and protection of hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens—without adequate vetting, without health screenings, and without a realistic plan for public safety.

Katie was more than a statistic or a talking point. She was vibrant, kind, creative, and deeply loved. She had dreams and plans that were stolen—not only by one man’s recklessness, but by a political system that valued ideology over human life.

Yes, Julio Cucul-Bol chose to drink and drive. But Governor Pritzker chose policies that allowed an illegal alien—using an alias, lacking basic verification, and somehow licensed to drive—to live freely in Illinois. Those choices intersected on January 19, 2025. When policy decisions directly contribute to foreseeable harm, responsibility does not vanish. There is blood on the hands of those who refused to act.

Gov. Pritzker has never acknowledged Katie’s life or her death. No call. No letter. No response. Silence.
