An FIR was lodged on behalf of relative Krishna Mohan Tiwari on 04 August 2020 in the case of taking over the ancestral house and taking control of the mining firm. On 14 August 2020, Vijay Mishra was arrested from Agar in Malwa district of Madhya Pradesh.

Mother-in-law and daughter-in-law started crying as soon as the decision came
As soon as the MP-MLA court announced its verdict, Ramlali and Rupa Mishra started crying in the court premises. Rupa’s 12 year old daughter was also present there. She started crying after seeing grandmother and mother crying. During this period, there was tight security in the court premises.

- 4 August 2020: FIR registered against MLA, wife and son at Gopiganj police station.
- 20 November 2023: Police sent charge sheet to the court, Rupa’s name also included in the case.
- 14 May 2026: Convicted and reserved the verdict.
- May 15, 2026: Vijay Mishra, wife, son and daughter-in-law punished.
