The wife of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani reportedly celebrated terrorists in a series of social media posts as a teenager and young adult as scrutiny over her online history continues.

In September 2017, Rama Duwaji, 28, posted a photo on her Tumblr account of Leila Khaled, longtime active leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) who participated in two plane hijackings in 1969 and 1970, respectively.

“If it does good for my cause, I’ll be happy to accept death,” the caption read.

Khaled is the first woman to hijack an airplane and is revered by terrorists for her role in the crimes.

Many of her posts were made in her early 20s, the Washing Free Beacon reported, noting that Duwaji spent her early childhood in New Jersey before moving with her family to Dubai.

In March 2015, when she was 17, Duwaji reposted a tweet on International Women’s Day praising the terrorist Shadia Abu Ghazaleh. The image shows Ghazaleh, who participated in the bombing of an Israeli bus and led several other terrorist attacks.

The image showed her posing with a rifle. She was killed in 1968 when a bomb she was building in her home accidentally exploded. The device that killed was intended to use to blow up a building in Tel Aviv.

Other posts include someone wearing keffiyeh-clad clothing while sewing a flag.

“Photography: ‘A Palestinian demonstrator sews a Palestinian Liberation Organization flag before a protest during the first Intifada’, February, 1988,” the caption reads.

Another showed a Bangladeshi postage stamp that read: “We salute the valiant freedom fighters of Palestine.”

A July 2015 post criticized the U.S. military presence abroad.

“*taps mic* American soldiers fighting in imperialist wars are not brave nor are they fighting for anyone’s freedom,” the post read. “They are mercilessly slaughtering 3rd world civilians and fighting to maintain American hegemony. That is all, thank you! *drops mic*”

Later that same year, Duwaji reposted a Tumblr user.

“You can’t blame muslims for terrorism because they didn’t construct, fund nor train Al-Qaeda,” the user wrote. “White People did that too.”

Another 2015 post she reposted a criticism of Snapchat for adding Tel Aviv to its live story feature.

“But in all reality, @Snapchat has disappointed me. F*** #TelAviv. Shouldn’t exist in the first place. They’re occupiers. You celebrate them,” read a post retweeted by Duwaji.

“And finally. Hey @Snapchat, as you give Israelis an outlet to celebrate their atrocities, youre supporting a genocidal state. Bye. #TelAviv.”

Duwaji, who was born in Houston and identifies as Syrian, married Mamdani in 2025,. She drew national attention after revelations that she liked several posts in the immediate aftermath of the Oct. 7 attack that were critical of Israel.

On the day of the Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel by Hamas, Duwaji liked an Instagram post showing images from participants who livestreamed footage of the onslaught, which left 1,200 Israelis dead, including young children.

She also allegedly liked a February 2024 Instagram post claiming The New York Times’ investigation into sexual violence during the Oct. 7 attack was “fabricated,”

Meningitis could spread outside Kent in ‘most likely’ scenario, says health official | UK News

0

Students in Kent could “incubate” meningitis and spread it to other parts of the UK, a health official has speculated as his “most likely” scenario.

The number of cases in the county’s outbreak rose on Friday from 27 to 29, with 18 defined as confirmed and another 11 probable, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The cases include two students who have died.

Meningitis outbreak latest: Health officials reveal ‘worst case scenario’

So far, all the meningitis cases have links to Kent after a so-called “superspreading event” at the Club Chemistry nightclub in Canterbury.

As health chiefs battle to contain the bacterial outbreak, Kent County Council’s director of public health Dr Anjan Ghosh has speculated on three “rough” scenarios over the next four weeks.

At a briefing on Friday, he said one theory is that cases remain contained in Kent.

A second scenario, which he described as the “most likely”, would involve people travelling off campus outside Kent and then spreading the bacteria to others within a household.

“They were incubating when they left, and then they become cases, and there are small household, sporadic clusters outside of Kent,” said Dr Ghosh.

He stressed these cases would be “containable” and the risk of infection is low.

But a “worst-case scenario”, which he said was “highly unlikely”, could result in another cluster outside the county.

Ed Waller, deputy chief executive of NHS Kent and Medway, also said a request has been made for a further 5,000 doses of vaccine as part of a local programme to protect those most at risk.

Among the 18 confirmed cases, 13 have been identified by UKHSA as meningococcal group B. All cases have required hospital admission.

A 21-year-old student at the University of Kent and a sixth form pupil at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Faversham have died in the current outbreak.

The UKHSA said four schools in Kent have confirmed cases of meningitis, while the London animation and games school Escape Studios said one of its students with links to the county had contracted meningitis.

Why a meningitis lockdown isn’t likely

Over 2,500 people have now been successfully vaccinated, and 9,840 doses of antibiotics have been administered at several sites in the county.

Large queues have formed at the sites, including at the University of Kent, although some were turned away on Friday. The same issue occurred on Thursday, which was explained as a staffing problem.

More meningitis vaccination centres are due to open across Kent to help meet demand.

The UKHSA has now completed a genetic analysis of the meningitis bacteria.

Brendan Wren, professor of Microbial Pathogenesis at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), said the strain circulating in Kent “appears to be a new subvariant” of a type of group B meningococci bacteria which “has been previously identified in the UK”.

“The current Bexsero MenB vaccine is based on the cell surface antigens of MenB strains and should provide protection against the MenB ST-41/44 variant,” he added.

Meanwhile, Paul Hunter, professor in medicine at the University of East Anglia, speculated that cases may have peaked.

“The incubation period, though a little uncertain, ranges from two to 10 days, so I think we can be fairly certain that the peak from the initial superspreading event will have already passed,” he said.

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The WNBA’s milestone 30th season is scheduled to tip off in less than two months. On Wednesday, the marathon negotiations between the WNBA and Women’s National Basketball Players Association ended with an historic agreement on a collective bargaining agreement.

The two sides verbally agreed to a deal that would raise teams’ salary caps to $7 million, ESPN reported. Last season’s salary cap was $1.5 million. Players will be eligible for supermax deals starting at $1.4 million in 2026, up from $249,244 in 2025.

Every WNBA player will earn at least $300,000 under the new CBA, sources told ESPN.

Diana Taurasi, an 11-time All-Star and three-time WNBA champion, reacted to the latest development. The former Phoenix Mercury guard said she believes the deal is a step in the right direction.

“The WNBA has gone through a long journey over the last 30 years,” she told The Spun. “There’s a lot of hard work, grit, perseverance and determination. This is just another milestone for women’s sports. It’s nice to see the WNBA in a better place than where you left it.”

The details of the term sheet are still being finalized. The next step is ratification by the players and the league’s board of governors.

Taurasi’s sentiments echoed WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert’s stance about what she described as a landmark deal.

“The progress made in these discussions marks a transformative step forward for players and the league,” Engelbert told reporters shortly after the deal was struck early Wednesday, “and it’s underscoring a shared commitment to the continued growth of the game.

“It’s [been] a process, but we’re very proud to be leading in women’s sports, and these players are amazing, and we’re going to have an amazing 30th season tipping off in May.”

Seattle Storm forward and WNBPA executive committee president Nneka Ogwumike, who participated in the prolonged bargaining sessions, commended the efforts that led to the new CBA.

“We’re just really grateful to be able to come to a deal,” Ogwumike said. “We’re proud of ourselves. And quite frankly, we always told you all we were going to stand on business, and that’s what this looks like.

Report suggests income tax cut and NI abolition to ‘incentivise work’ | Politics News

0

Cabinet ministers have looked at a blueprint for how Labour could cut taxes on work by taking on “vested interests” profiteering from the cost of living crisis.

The draft paper, by the Labour Growth Group and Good Growth Foundation, argues for a complete overhaul of Labour’s economic strategy and messaging to prevent a far-right government.

Policy proposals are still being worked up, but include cutting income tax and abolishing national insurance. Options for how this could be funded include equalising capital gains tax with income tax in certain areas, reforming council tax or taxing landowners.

Sky News understands the report has been looked at by several cabinet ministers and potential leadership contenders.

Advisors to Health Secretary Wes Streeting, former deputy prime minister Angela Rayner and Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham – all tipped as frontrunners to replace Sir Keir Starmer – are among those understood to have engaged with the work.

The report is expected to be published just after the May local elections – the crunch point at which the prime minister could face a leadership challenge if they go as badly as predicted.

Sir Keir has repeatedly insisted he will fight on, so anyone seeking to take him out would need the backing of 80 MPs.

There is a big question mark over who could get the numbers following the move to block Mr Burnham from standing in the Gorton and Denton by-election, which Labour lost.

However, the report being published at a vulnerable time piles fresh pressure on the prime minister, whose tanking poll ratings are often blamed on a failure to tackle the cost of living crisis and communicate who Labour is for.

This report will suggest policies to tackle the cost of living, as well as how Labour can sell them to the public.

How the Angela Rayner row could define the May elections

It will say Labour needs to redesign the tax system to incentivise hard work, with greater incentives for entrepreneurs and small business owners.

And it will argue that voter anger is fuelled by the belief “doing the right thing” leaves them feeling shafted, and Labour must confront those who make money from taking advantage of people.

Mark McVitie, the Labour Growth Group’s director, told Sky News: “Everyone in politics is correctly diagnosing the cost of living crisis. That’s not enough. You go to the doctor because something’s wrong, but you don’t just want them to tell you you’re ill and they care, you want them to find out why and fix it. That’s what this project is aiming to do.

“Until we can do that and take on the vested interests profiting from the mess, we’re just offering painkillers for a condition that keeps getting worse.”

The Labour strategist said the party must be “laser focused on rewarding work and taking initiative”.

He added: “When someone working 60 hour weeks as a nurse or running a small business is paying a higher marginal tax rate than an institutional landlord, that’s not happening.

Angela Rayner slammed over ‘negative intervention’ about Labour government

“As a party we need to be squarely on the side of those putting in the work, taking risks and doing the right thing, and not afraid to confront the vested interests who will resist that change.”

The paper has the draft title of Beveridge Report, named after a famous report by Sir William Beveridge, a key figure in designing Britain’s welfare state.

Another focus will be on devolution, with the paper saying it should be vastly expanded so regional mayors have greater fiscal powers.

More than 100 Labour MPs work with the Growth Group, whose parliamentary chair is former YouGov pollster Chris Curtis.

The group looks at ways to tear down barriers to economic growth, which the government says is one of its central missions.

The UK’s economic forecaster the OBR has predicted GDP to grow by an average 1.5% a year from 2027 to 2030.

However many MPs fear voters will not feel any tangible benefit unless more is done to tackle the everyday cost of living.

Sir Keir began the year with a pledge to be “laser focused” on the cost of living, but the reset has been overshadowed by the Peter Mandelson scandal, while the war in Iran has threatened to push prices up further.

Alabama student’s Barcelona death believed accidental, but drugging eyed

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

University of Alabama student Jimmy Gracey’s spring break death off the coast of Spain is primarily believed to have been an accident, but authorities have not yet ruled out the possibility he was drugged, a law enforcement source in Barcelona tells Fox News Digital.

However, the 20-year-old’s wallet was recovered intact, with cash, credit cards and identification all inside.

Investigators believe Gracey walked toward the water on his own and fell in while under the influence of drugs, alcohol or both, according to the source, but they’re not certain enough to close the case yet with autopsy and toxicology results pending.

The source also shed new light on the arrest of a man who had Gracey’s phone. The subject was previously known to authorities and has a history of prior thefts. However, according to the source, he is not believed to have taken it from Gracey directly.

He is believed to have found the phone on a street and picked it up — leading to his arrest later.

As far as investigators can tell, he didn’t have any contact with Gracey, the source told Fox News Digital.

Investigators are still reviewing surveillance video, the source said. Autopsy results and a toxicology report are not expected to be completed until next Thursday, and authorities are not expected to announce an official cause of death before then. There was no word on any potential signs of trauma Friday.

There are said to be several “loose ends” that authorities need to tie up before the case comes to a close.

Other active hypotheses that remain in play include that Gracey could have been drugged, taken drugs himself or ingested a large enough amount of alcohol to disorient himself.

Much like in parts of the U.S., the source acknowledged theft rings and migrant crime can be a problem in the waterfront promenade area, where Gracey was last seen. He said that while there is a notable amount of crimes of opportunity there, especially at night and near the clubs and bars, overall crime in Barcelona has been in decline for several years.

Earlier Friday, a spokesperson for Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalan regional police, said they believed Gracey’s death to be accidental but declined to release specific details about his final moments.

Gracey, a college junior standing 6 feet, 1 inch tall, and a group of friends from the Alabama chapter of the Theta Chi fraternity flew to Europe for a spring break trip, with plans to visit friends in Barcelona who are studying abroad.

He was last seen alive early Tuesday morning at Shoko, a nightclub on the beach next to the Port Olimpic marina, where authorities found his remains Thursday evening.

The final known photo of him shows him inside the club, with curly brown hair and wearing his signature gold chain, with a rhinestone cross.

Most of the group left around 3 a.m., but Gracey stayed behind. He was seen talking to an American woman with brown hair, according to local reports.

By the time his friends awoke later that morning, he’d failed to return to the group’s Airbnb along Ronda de Sant Pere, a central avenue in the city about 1.5 miles from Shoko.

Friends notified his family and local police, who opened an investigation, according to Mossos d’Esquadra, the regional police force in Catalonia, which includes Barcelona.

The case made international headlines after Gracey’s mother, Therese Gracey, posted about his disappearance in a Facebook group for expats in Barcelona, and his father, Taras Gracey, flew to Spain to take part in the search effort.

West Bengal: Regional balance, social alliance is the key to power; The real fight between identity vs nationalism – West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 Regional Balance Social Alliances Hold Key To Power Bjp Tmc Mamata Banerjee

0

With the political temperature rising, the picture is clear in West Bengal this time too…the election will not be decided by any wave or face, but by the equations on the ground. The ruling Trinamool Congress is claiming its fourth consecutive innings with the help of its strong social alliance, women vote bank and welfare schemes. At the same time, taking lessons from the defeat of 2021, BJP is trying to make the contest direct and decisive through region-wise aggressive strategy. If the election data of 2021 is taken as any indication, then the key to power in Bengal lies not in any big narrative, but in the regional balance, social alliances and vote transfer spread from North to South and these equations will decide the fate of 2026.

The total assembly seats in Bengal are 294. In 2021, Trinamool had won 213 seats. BJP had got 77 seats. Four seats went to independents. This is not just an aggregate figure. Its real strength is understood when divided into geographical areas. The 2026 election is not just an election for change of power, but a direct contest between two different political models, welfare and regional identity versus development and national politics. Only the one who has mastered regional mathematics will be in power in Bengal.

On which issues are BJP and TMC face to face?
On the one hand, there is Trinamool Congress, which is contesting the elections keeping its welfare schemes and the issue of Bengali identity at the centre. The party is busy reaching out to voters directly with the help of schemes like financial assistance, free ration, health and social security for women. It is also giving edge to the debate of outsider versus local.

On the other hand, BJP is in the fray with the agenda of development, investment and strong infrastructure. She is making employment, industry and law and order the main issues. At the same time, it is fanning the issue of nationality through Bangladeshi infiltrators and is claiming rapid development through central schemes and double engine government. Analysts say that Bengal elections are once again making it clear that power here is not decided by any one issue, but by regional balance and vote transfer.

North Bengal: Challenge for Trinamool, lifeline for BJP
There are total 54 seats in North Bengal. This is considered the stronghold of BJP. In 2021, it got 30 seats, while Trinamool got 24. BJP gained a strong hold in the border and hilly areas. This was the area which established it as the main opposition in Bengal. BJP’s strategy in 2026 is to further increase its lead here, while the biggest challenge remains for Trinamool.

South and Central Bengal: This is where the keys to power lie
This is the biggest and decisive area from where the path of the government is decided. Rural vote bank and welfare schemes gave TMC a decisive lead here. There are total 167 seats here. Of these, Trinamool got 134 seats, while BJP got 29 and others got 4 seats.

Greater Kolkata: Trinamool’s impenetrable fort, BJP weak
The overwhelming support of urban, middle class and minority voters went with Trinamool. BJP still looks weak here at the level of organization and local leadership. There are a total of 33 seats here, out of which in 2021, Trinamool had to be content with 30 seats and BJP with only 3 seats.

Jangalmahal area: Mamata’s lost support base returned
In this tribal dominated area, Trinamool regained the lost support base after 2019. However, this area is not completely stable. Even a slight swing can change the result. Last time, Trinamool had won 25 out of 40 seats here, while BJP had got 15 seats.

UK forces join military operation with French navy to seize Russian ‘shadow fleet’ tanker in Mediterranean | World News

0

UK forces have joined a military operation with the French navy in the Mediterranean to seize an oil tanker, alleged to be part of Russia’s shadow fleet.

British patrol boat HMS Cutlass monitored the Deyna, a Mozambique-flagged vessel, and supported the French operation on Friday by providing tracking information and imagery near the Strait of Gibraltar.

Defence Secretary John Healey said: “Disrupting, deterring and degrading Russia’s shadow fleet – and starving Putin’s war machine of funds – is a priority for this government.”

Russia’s so-called shadow fleet of vessels is used to carry oil and goods around the world to avoid sanctions on Moscow following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

UK and Russia ‘set for confrontation’

The Deyna is sanctioned by the UK and the European Union for its role in shipping Russian oil.

French President Emmanuel Macron said in a post on X: “These vessels, which evade international sanctions and violate the law of the sea, are profiteers of war.

“They line their pockets while helping finance Russia’s war effort. We will not allow it.”

A Western military source told Reuters that the tanker was carrying Russian crude oil, while the news agency also quoted local officials who said it was suspected of flying a false flag.

The vessel, which had sailed from the Russian port of Murmansk, was escorted to an anchorage point for further inspection, the French military said.

The maritime tracking website, vesselfinder.com, said it was heading towards Port Said, Egypt, and was intercepted off the coast of Algeria.

The shipping industry has accused shadow fleet vessels of being poorly maintained, ageing tankers with dubious insurance or safety certification cover.

‘Russian shadow fleet’ tanker seized

Friday’s military operation is the latest sign of the UK’s co-operation with allies.

In January, British forces helped the US seize the oil tanker Marinera in the Atlantic, and France intercept another sanctioned ship, the Grinch, in the western Mediterranean.

While European sanctions remain in place, the US has temporarily eased sanctions on the sale of Russian oil as the Middle East war disrupts oil supplies and boosts prices.

Moscow has previously called the seizure of its tankers, or ‌vessels carrying its cargoes, an act of piracy.

Chicago’s debt crisis a ‘pay later’ cycle, Illinois Policy Institute expert warns

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and his administration are presiding over a city in serious financial straits, as decades of mismanagement and present-day fiscal irresponsibility compound.

Chicago, the nation’s third-largest city, is facing a corporate fund budget gap of more than $1 billion, while its 2025 fiscal year is projected to close with a roughly $150 million deficit as about two-fifths of the budget goes toward debt service and pension costs.

Johnson said in April that the city was “at a crossroads” and had to “essentially do more with less,” while simultaneously slamming the Trump administration for reportedly threatening federal funding; calling it a “different scenario we weren’t under before.”

Austin Berg, executive director of the pro-taxpayer research group Illinois Policy Institute, said markets are looking at the true numbers and are “really concerned” about Chicago.

RECORDS REVEAL CHICAGO MAYOR’S ‘GIFT ROOM’ WAS CONSTRUCTED AFTER INVESTIGATORS TURNED AWAY

“And that’s why you see the spreads on Chicago debt getting wider and wider; the structural issues,” he said.

Berg explained that the situation is akin to someone calling financial adviser Dave Ramsey’s radio show to ask what to do while buried in debt.

“The solution set is always the same: Stop making bad decisions and you have to put a structure in place to make better decisions,” Berg said.

“So the bad decisions are things like taking one-time revenues from federal COVID spending and putting it into operations. The bad decisions are borrowing for operations, which this latest bond issue just did. That’s a huge no-no and a red flag for investors.”

Chicago also drew scrutiny over former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s 75-year parking meter lease in 2008, a deal critics say has already allowed the private operator to recoup its investment while leaving the city without that revenue stream for decades.

Berg pointed to a recent analysis he authored accusing Johnson of extending the city’s “pay later” culture, arguing that the mayor’s $830 million 2025 bond deal — which delays principal payments for 20 years — is his version of Richard M. Daley’s parking-meter boondoggle.

CHICAGO SUES TRUMP DOJ OVER ‘UNLAWFUL’ DEI RESTRICTIONS ON FEDERAL POLICING GRANTS

He also suggested the city take more seriously a plate of $1 billion in potential efficiencies produced in a taxpayer-funded deep-dive by consulting firm EY – formerly Ernst & Young.

While Chicago spends 40% of its money on debt servicing, actual services suffer. Berg said it is also the only city besides New York that doesn’t require voter approval of new general obligation debt.

CHICAGO MAYOR LASHES OUT AT REPORTER OVER ‘ILLEGAL ALIEN’ TERM: ‘RACIST, NASTY LANGUAGE’

The city lacks a “truly independent” chief financial officer, Berg claimed, saying that the treasurer’s office does not have full auditing authority and that another related agency called COFA is understaffed and underresourced.

“Voters didn’t decide to have all of that debt. And it’s important for voters to be able to decide because those decisions affect Chicagoans 30 years from now. So shackling them with these political decisions now is just really unfair,” he said.

Chicago has also come under fire for expenditures on social justice and other efforts while city services continue to lack.

Independent journalist William J. Kelly created a viral moment in January when he questioned Johnson on which type of ICE he should be focused on immigration officers or snow that inundated the city, as he drove through unplowed streets.

“Let me just commend the efforts of the city employees that made sure that our streets were plowed… I do not personally plow streets… No one was stuck,” Johnson replied in-part.

Berg suggested one outlet for Chicago would be to demand the state of Illinois allow municipalities to declare Chapter 9 Bankruptcy, which he said is a rare restriction nationally. He underlined that he did not want to see Chicago declare bankruptcy but that without that lever, the city has much less leverage when negotiating with public-sector unions for the very liabilities it is drowning in.

The City Council successfully killed Johnson’s proposition of a “head tax” – a levy-per-employee on large corporations, which critics said would have driven out or prevented future business – and thereby sources of revenue in the city.

The editorial board of the left-leaning Washington Post also slammed Chicago’s straits in a recent op-ed, writing that “it takes a long time to kill a city, and the bigger the city, the longer it takes.”

“Chicago’s ‘public servants’ have done a fine job speeding up the process,” the board wrote, while also citing the city having its bond rating downgraded in February by both Kroll and Fitch.

“The modest tweaks [council] forced [Johnson] to accept in December won’t change the fiscal trajectory,” the paper said.

A U.S. Air Force Base that houses B-52 bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons detected “multiple unauthorized drones” in its vicinity earlier this month, a base official confirmed to Fox News Digital.

“Barksdale Air Force Base detected multiple unauthorized drones operating in our airspace during the week of March 9th,” a Barksdale AFB spokesperson told Fox News Digital on Friday.

The spokesperson added: “Flying a drone over a military installation is not only a safety issue, it is a criminal offense under federal law.”

Base officials are working closely with federal and local law enforcement agencies to investigate the drone sightings, the spokesperson said.

“The security of our installation and the safety of our people are top priorities, and we will continue to vigilantly monitor our airspace,” the official added.

Barksdale is east of Shreveport in Louisiana and encompasses 22,000 acres with a population of around 15,000.

The drone detections come amid heightened security at Air Force bases in the U.S. as the war in Iran continues.

A shelter-in-place order was issued on March 9 at the base that was lifted shortly after, but the drone sights continued through the week.

Mick Mulroy, former deputy assistant secretary of defense for the Middle East, told ABC News it didn’t look like an average drone enthusiast.

“It looked like this was deliberate and intentional to see just how they would react,” he said. “Seeing this probe on a base in the United States is very troubling.”
