North Korean leader Kim Jong Un watched a live-fire test of multiple rocket launch systems alongside his teenage daughter Saturday, as the regime escalates weapons demonstrations amid joint U.S.–South Korea military exercises, state media reported.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Kim oversaw a strike drill involving twelve 600mm ultra-precision multiple rocket launchers along North Korea’s east coast, according to The Associated Press.

South Korea’s military said it detected about 10 ballistic missiles launched from an area near the North Korean capital of Pyongyang.

South Korea’s National Security Council condemned the launches as a provocation and said they violated United Nations Security Council resolutions that prohibit North Korea from conducting ballistic missile tests, The Associated Press reported.

Kim said the drill was meant to demonstrate the destructive capability of the country’s tactical nuclear forces, according to state media.

“If this weapon is used, the opponent’s military infrastructure within its striking range can never survive,” Kim said.

Photos released by state media showed Kim Jong Un and his daughter — believed to be named Kim Ju Ae, about 13 or 14 years old — walking near launch trucks, The Associated Press reported.

Kim Ju Ae has appeared alongside her father at numerous military events, missile tests and parades since late 2022, fueling speculation that Kim Jong Un may be positioning her as a future successor.

The live-fire test followed after the U.S. and South Korea began their annual military drills earlier this week, which North Korea routinely condemns as rehearsals for an invasion.

Last month, Kim Jong Un reportedly gave his teenage daughter a leadership role in the regime’s powerful “Missile Administration,” the body that oversees Pyongyang’s nuclear forces.

Centre’s initiative on tourism and heritage conservation
Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that Chittorgarh Fort is a symbol of India’s self-respect, identity and indomitable will to live. Controversy has arisen regarding a question asked in the question paper of Uttar Pradesh Police Sub-Inspector recruitment examination. In the examination held on Saturday, a question was asked, “Answer in one word for those who change according to the occasion.” For this, four options were given – Pandit, Opportunist, Sincere and Virtuous. Objection has been raised on the inclusion of the word ‘Pandit’ in the question options, after which the state government has taken cognizance of the matter and directed for investigation in this regard.

The board ordered investigation into the matter

The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board said late on Saturday evening that an inquiry has been ordered in relation to the referred question and after the investigation, action will be taken against those found guilty. In a post on ‘X’, the board said, “In the context of visible discussions in the social media on a question asked in the first shift of the written examination for the recruitment of Sub Inspector Civil Police and equivalent posts conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board on March 14, the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board wishes to inform that its question papers are not set by the Police Recruitment Board itself at the local level.”

The board further said in the same post, “Rather, this work is done by highly confidential organizations in such a way that the confidentiality of the question papers remains intact before the examination.” To maintain this confidentiality, confidential material i.e. question papers are not inspected by any officer or employee even at the board level.

The Controller of Examinations of Uttar Pradesh Recruitment and Promotion Board said through this post that the sealed packets of question papers are first opened in front of two candidates in the examination rooms at the examination centers and then distributed. Investigation has been ordered in relation to the referred question of this case. After investigation, action will be taken against the concerned officers found guilty.

Deputy Chief Minister reacted on the matter

State Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak gave a strong reaction on this matter and said that the government has serious objection to the options given in the question and it has been taken into cognizance. Pathak said in a post on ‘X’, “We have a strong objection to the options given for the question. The government has taken serious cognizance of this matter. If any question hurts the dignity of any society or class, then it is absolutely not acceptable.”

BJP leader expressed objection by writing a letter to CM

BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit secretary Abhijat Mishra, who belongs to the Brahmin community, appealed to the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Have objected to the question by writing a letter and have demanded action against those responsible for preparing the question paper.

Two airmen killed when a US aircraft crashed in Iraq have been named. 

Alex Klinner, 33, was deployed less than a week before his refuelling aircraft crashed in western Iraq on 12 March.

All six crew members were killed.

“It’s kind of heartbreaking to say, he was just a really good dad and really loved his family a lot – like a lot,” his brother-in-law James Harrill said.

The eight-year US Air Force veteran from Birmingham, Alabama, had just moved with his family into a new home, his wife, Libby Klinner, said in a social media post.

Also aboard the aircraft was Tyler Simmons of Columbus, Ohio, his mother Cheryl Simmons confirmed.

An umbrella group of Iranian proxies called the Islamic Resistance in Iraq had claimed responsibility for downing the plane but US authorities have insisted it “was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire”.

The aircraft was in “friendly” airspace, supporting operations against Iran, when an unspecified incident involving another aircraft occurred, according to US Central Command.

The other plane landed safely, US military officials said.

Mr Klinner leaves behind 7-month-old twins and a 2-year-old son, Mr Harrill said.

In a statement obtained by WCMH-TV in Columbus, Mr Simmons’ family said his “smile could light up any room”.

“His parents, grandparents, family and friends are grief stricken for the loss of life,” they added.

The Pentagon hasn’t yet confirmed the identities of the six, but families began revealing who had died on Saturday.

The Ohio Air National Guard’s 121st Air Refuelling Wing said in a social media post that three of the dead airmen had served in their unit.

“We share in the sorrow of their loved ones, and we must not forget the valuable contributions these Airmen made to their country and the impact they have left on our organization,” they said.

A group of mourners is gathered by the side of the road at a temporary cemetery. Huddled around makeshift memorials, some weep, some hug, others stare blankly ahead. They’re here to bury four men that they say were medics and social workers. They were not, they say, fighters.

Ehsan Dbouk, a cleric for the group, says they’ve had to use this site because the men’s hometowns are no longer safe.

“We can’t bury our martyrs in their villages on the frontline,” he says. “We are dealing with an enemy that doesn’t distinguish between killing fighters and killing civilians.”

That enemy, they claim, represents an existential threat. Israel frames the Iran-backed group, proscribed as a terrorist organisation in the UK, in exactly the same way. Neither side is showing any sign of backing down.
