A California attorney is among three men now charged in a daytime assault at Santana Row, a high-end shopping and dining destination, in what authorities say is an alleged antisemitic attack after victims reported slurs were shouted during the beatdown.
The three suspects, Bruneil Henry Chamaki, 32, of Morgan Hill, and brothers Roma and Ramon Akoyans have all turned themselves in, police said.
Prosecutors say the men are facing a mix of felony and misdemeanor assault and battery charges. They’re due in court for arraignment on May 12.

“We won’t tolerate pummeling a victim on the ground in front of a restaurant or anywhere,” Rosen said. “Our public spaces have to be safe for all to enjoy without fear.”
For now, prosecutors say they are not filing hate crime charges, but stress the case is still under investigation.
Police say arrest warrants were obtained for the three suspects, who all surrendered without incident.
“This remains an active case, and we will continue working closely with the District Attorney’s Office as it moves through the criminal justice process,” San Jose police said in a statement. “Those responsible for this violent crime will be held accountable.”
Investigators also acknowledged community concern and said they worked “methodically” to build the case.
Police say surveillance video, social media and tips from the public helped identify the suspects.
Chamaki, one of the suspects, is a licensed attorney who previously worked at Murphy Austin Adams Schoenfeld LLP. According to the firm, he has not been affiliated with them since the end of January.
“Murphy Austin was shocked and disturbed to learn of the violent incident reported in San Jose,” a spokesperson said in a statement to KTVU. “The conduct described in the reports is deeply troubling. Murphy Austin condemns antisemitism, violence, and acts of hatred in any form.”
Court records also list Roma Akoyans as a student at West Valley College.

The attack unfolded March 8 outside the Augustine restaurant — right in the middle of Santana Row.
According to court documents, the victims — Israeli-American men — were standing outside waiting for a table and speaking Hebrew when three men approached them.
One of the victims later told police the men were looking at them “very weird,” prompting him to ask if they knew each other — that’s when things escalated.
Police say one of the suspects allegedly shouted “F— Jews” before all three began throwing punches, KTVU reported.

According to the report, one of the victims was beaten for roughly 20 seconds, with video showing the suspects repeatedly punching and kicking him while he was on the ground.
As the attack unfolded, bystanders could be heard yelling for the men to stop.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.

One of the top counterterrorism officials in the United States, Joe Kent, has resigned over his country’s war against Iran.
On Tuesday, he published a copy of his resignation letter on the social media platform X, addressing his correspondence to US President Donald Trump.

“I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran,” Kent wrote.
“Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”
Until this week, Kent served as the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, the US agency responsible for coordinating and analysing terrorism intelligence.
The resignation marks the highest-profile rebuke yet of the war effort from within the Trump administration.
Here is what to know about Kent’s resignation and its fallout:
Who is Joe Kent?
Kent, 45, is a former political candidate who has faced scrutiny over past connections to far-right activists.
He is a former soldier with the US Army Special Forces who completed 11 combat deployments, including tours during the US-led war in Iraq.
His first wife, Shannon Kent, a US Navy cryptologic technician, was killed in Syria in 2019 in a suicide bombing; she left behind two children.
After leaving the military, Kent worked as a paramilitary officer for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) before launching a political career.
Twice, he campaigned as a Republican to represent southwestern Washington state in the US Congress. But both times, in 2022 and 2024, he was defeated by centrist Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez.
Trump had endorsed Kemp in both races, though the candidate was dogged by controversies, including that he paid a member of the far-right group Proud Boys a consulting fee.
How long has Kent served in the Trump administration?
Kent had been head of the National Counterterrorism Center for less than eight months.
In July, the Senate voted to confirm him by a margin of 52 to 44, with support only from Republicans.
Who were Kent’s close associates?
Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence, was Kent’s boss during his time in the Trump administration.
She was among the first to celebrate his confirmation in July, describing him as a “patriot” and highlighting his experience as a combat veteran.
“His experience serving as the tip of the spear in some of the world’s most dangerous battlefields has given him a deep, practical understanding of the enduring and evolving threat of Islamist terrorism,” she wrote.
Gabbard, Kent and Vice President JD Vance were seen as part of a faction within the Trump administration that is more sceptical of US military intervention abroad.
Last week, Trump told reporters that Vance had been “maybe less enthusiastic” about striking Iran, but he added that “we get along very well on this”.
For her part, Gabbard distanced herself from Kent’s resignation in a post on Tuesday that emphasised her support for Trump’s campaign in Iran.
“Donald Trump was overwhelmingly elected by the American people to be our President and Commander in Chief,” she wrote, without naming Kent.
“As our Commander in Chief, he is responsible for determining what is and is not an imminent threat.”
Why did Kent resign over the Iran war?
As a military veteran, Kent said he was concerned about the risk of another major war in the Middle East.
In his resignation letter, Kent explained that he supported the foreign policy agenda Trump championed during his last three presidential campaigns.
Kent pointed out that Trump had pledged to keep the US out of “never-ending wars”, like those that had unfolded in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Until June 2025, you understood that the wars in the Middle East were a trap that robbed America of the precious lives of our patriots and depleted the wealth and prosperity of our nation,” Kent wrote.
But he argued that Trump had been misled about the threat posed by Iran. He blamed members of the media, as well as high-ranking Israeli officials and lobbyists, for prompting Trump to abandon his America First agenda.
“This echo chamber was used to deceive you into believing that Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States, and that if you struck now, there was a clear path to a swift victory,” Kent said.
“This was a lie and is the same tactic the Israelis used to draw us into the disastrous Iraq war that cost our nation the lives of thousands of our best men and women. We cannot make this mistake again.”
Kent cited the loss of his wife, Shannon, in US combat operations in Syria as an example of the stakes.

Could Kent’s resignation affect Trump’s Iran war policy?
Paul Quirk, a political science professor at the University of British Columbia, said Kent’s departure serves as an illustration of how Trump’s actions go “against the advice of the relevant military, intelligence and foreign affairs experts in government”.
But Quirk added that he is sceptical as to how much impact Kent alone will have on Trump’s decision-making.
“Normally, a high-level resignation, along with explicit contradiction of the president’s rationale for a major decision, would be a major blow to the president and his administration,” Quirk told Al Jazeera.
“It would prompt co-partisans in Congress to challenge the president’s decision and withdraw or qualify their support.”
But in this case, Kent’s resignation comes amid already intense criticism of the administration’s campaign in Iran.
“Kent’s statement is merely a substantial addition to what was already a mountain of evidence that Trump’s rationale for attacking Iran was fictitious, and that the war was launched recklessly, without planning,” Quirk said.
“It’s possible that Kent’s resignation could have a dramatic impact on support for Trump and the war, but it would be a matter of ‘the straw that broke the camel’s back’.”
How will Kent’s departure be seen by voters?
While Kent’s resignation is unlikely to change US military strategy, analysts say it could carry political consequences.
Fewer than eight months remain before the pivotal midterm elections. Backlash to Trump’s policies could harm his fellow Republicans at the polls.
Al Jazeera correspondent Mike Hanna noted that Kent maintains a high profile within Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) base.
Kent’s criticism of the president could therefore be a bellwether for wider disillusionment among Trump’s followers.
“Kent’s criticism of the US-Israel war on Iran is very significant because he is not an average Trump-appointee bureaucrat figure,” Hanna said.
“He’s a veteran who has done several tours in special forces and has always been an avid supporter of Trump and the MAGA movement. A figure like this accusing Israel of influencing Trump to enter the war with false information is a very damning statement that could affect support for the president among parts of the right-wing community.”
What are the reactions to Kent’s resignation?
Kent’s letter has divided Republicans. Some supported his resignation as a principled stand, while others denounced him as ill-informed and disloyal to the president.
Kent received a sharp response from Trump himself, who addressed the resignation during an appearance in the Oval Office on Tuesday.
“I always thought he was a nice guy, but I always thought he was weak on security,” Trump told reporters. “It’s a good thing that he’s out because he said Iran was not a threat.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt likewise dismissed Kent’s claims as “both insulting and laughable”.
Meanwhile, in Congress, House Speaker Mike Johnson called Kent “clearly wrong” in his assessment that Iran posed no imminent threat to the US. That was a rationale Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas echoed.
“Kent and his family have sacrificed greatly for our nation, and I thank him for his service,” Cotton wrote in a statement. “But I disagree with his misguided assessment.”
Conservative media commentator Tucker Carlson, however, praised Kent’s decision.
“Joe is the bravest man I know, and he can’t be dismissed as a nut,” Carlson said in a New York Times interview. “He’s leaving a job that gave him access to the highest-level relevant intelligence. The neo-cons will try to destroy him for that.”
“He understands that and did it anyway,” he added.
Why has Kent been accused of anti-Semitism?
Some critics highlighted lines in Kent’s letter that blame Israel for Trump’s decision to strike Iran.
They claimed such remarks are anti-Semitic, painting Israeli leaders as a malevolent force responsible for manipulating Trump with lies.
Representative Don Bacon, a former US Air Force brigadier general who serves on the House Armed Services Committee, was among the critics who took up that line of argument.
“Anti-Semitism is an evil I detest, and we surely don’t want it in our government,” Bacon wrote in response to Kent’s departure on social media.
Democrat Josh Gottheimer likewise accused Kent of “scapegoating” Israel and engaging in a “tired antisemitic trope”.
“Kent’s reduction of Iran to ‘Israel’s fault’ isn’t leadership,” he wrote. “It’s bigoted deflection.”

After NFL offensive tackle Elijah Wilkinson found a new home with the Arizona Cardinals in free agency, he made sure to torch his old Atlanta Falcons squad on his way out.
Wilkinson signed a two-year, $6.25 million deal to join the Cardinals’ offensive line, which some Falcons fans seemed to like, believing he didn’t perform well during his time in Atlanta.
But Wilkinson had time to respond to comments, with one fan saying, “Thank god your [sic] gone,” according to screen grabs of since-deleted comments.

And Wilkinson didn’t just keep it to the comment section. He was answering DM’s as well.

“Hahaha yeah alright and all the passes Mooney dropped and Pitts f— off my line. Have fun rooting to lose the NFC south,” Wilkinson wrote, followed by “28-3,” a reference to the infamous blown Super Bowl lead Atlanta had against the New England Patriots. “…laughing stock.”
Wilkinson was called upon by head coach Raheem Morris and the rest of the 2025 Falcons staff when right tackle Kaleb McGary sustained a knee injury during training camp. Being that starter Michael Penix Jr. is a left-handed quarterback, right tackle is highly important on the offensive line because it is Penix’s blind side.
Wilkinson started all 17 games after appearing in just two games for Atlanta, mostly on special teams, during the 2024 season.
Wilkinson was an undrafted free agent out of UMass who landed with the Denver Broncos, with which he spent four seasons playing tackle and guard over 26 starts.

A British appeals court ruled that a hospital broke the law when it withdrew life-sustaining treatment from a 68-year-old man without first obtaining court approval amid a dispute with his family.
In a judgment released March 3, Lord Justice Newey, Lady Justice Asplin and Lord Justice Baker said Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust acted unlawfully when it stopped providing dialysis to Robert Barnor on Feb. 11 after describing the move as a “clinical decision.”
The court said that when there is disagreement over withdrawing life-sustaining treatment from a patient who lacks mental capacity, the issue must be decided by the Court of Protection under Britain’s Mental Capacity Act, the law governing decisions for adults who cannot make them for themselves.
“The hospital cannot pre-empt court proceedings by unilaterally withholding or withdrawing treatment on ‘clinical’ grounds,” Baker wrote. “A decision whether or not to withdraw treatment has to be a best interests decision.” He added: “There is no carve out for ‘clinical decisions.’”

Barnor died on Feb. 27. The Court of Appeal had granted permission for his daughter, Lesley Barnor Townsend, to challenge the hospital’s decision and sent the case back to the Court of Protection — a specialist court that handles financial and healthcare decisions about vulnerable people who may lack capacity — for an urgent hearing, but no best-interests determination was made before his death.
Barnor had been hospitalized since last April after suffering a stroke and a series of further strokes that caused extensive and irreversible brain damage, according to the judgment. He never recovered consciousness, though family members said they saw signs of responsiveness, including tracking people with his eyes, blinking on request, reacting to music and squeezing his wife’s hand. He later developed severe acute kidney injury and required dialysis twice a week.
According to the judgment, the trust obtained opinions in late 2025 from three outside specialists as doctors concluded that continued dialysis was clinically inappropriate. The court said two of those reports could properly be described as second opinions, but that Professor Lynne Turner-Stokes’ report was “not a conventional ‘second opinion’” because she did not examine Barnor.

The family was told at a Feb. 6 meeting that clinicians had decided Barnor was not suitable for long-term dialysis. In a Feb. 11 letter, the trust’s solicitors said no further long-term dialysis would be provided and argued the matter was a clinical decision that did not require prior approval from the Court of Protection.
Townsend then sought permission to bring the case in the Court of Protection. The application was refused Feb. 17, but she filed an appeal Feb. 19. The Court of Appeal heard the case Feb. 23, later granting permission for the application and sending the matter back for an urgent hearing.
The appeals court stressed that courts cannot force doctors to provide treatment they consider clinically inappropriate. But it said that when a patient lacks mental capacity, a dispute over withdrawing life-sustaining treatment must still be handled as a best-interests question under the Mental Capacity Act.

A spokesperson for Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust told Fox News Digital, “Our sympathies are with the family at this very difficult time.”
Townsend said in a statement to the Christian Legal Centre that she hoped the judgment would help protect other families facing similar situations.
“It is too late now to save my father’s life, but the system which took it away should be held accountable for that, for the sake of other people’s fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, husbands, wives and children, whose lives still depend on it,” she said.
Andrea Williams, chief executive of the Christian Legal Centre, which supported the Barnor family’s legal challenge, said lessons should be learned from the case.
“A thorough public inquiry into the medical and legal aspects of end-of-life care in this country is long overdue,” Williams said. “The system must be urgently reformed to introduce robust protections for the sanctity of life, which remains a fundamental principle of law.”

The conflict, which the United Nations estimates has displaced more than 100,000 people, intensified this week when Kabul said 400 people had been killed when a missile hit a hospital that treats drug addicts.
Mr Karzai – who led Afghanistan between 2002 and 2014 after the Taliban were forced from power – said that he had heard the “horrific sound” of the bombing himself, that his house had shaken and that the area around it had filled with smoke and dust.
The strike was, he said, an “extremely unfortunate event” in the history of the relationship between the two countries.

“The government of Pakistan has not been able to live with any Afghan government,” he told Sky News.
“They didn’t do this well with the government and the monarchist regime in Afghanistan and then the Republic and then, subsequently other governments and then the Republic again, during my time in office, I went there 20 times to seek a better relationship.”
He claimed that Pakistan’s current government is again repeating the same attempt to cripple Kabul.
Mr Karzai said: “The unfortunate fact is that the government of Pakistan does not wish to have a sensible, reasonable, civilised relationship with Afghanistan.
“They rely on creating anarchy and weakness and a downtrodden Afghanistan these years, in their interest, which is terribly wrong, which I hope they will change their minds and look for a more stable and civilised relationship with Afghanistan.”
Mr Karzai added that he advised the Pakistani leadership to conduct itself in a “civilised way” with Afghanistan.
“Please stop the approaches that did not work in the past for decades and it may not work into the future,” he said.
Pakistan has said its strikes “precisely targeted military installations and terrorist support infrastructure, including technical equipment storage and ammunition storage of Afghan Taliban” and other militants in Kabul and Nangarhar.
It added that the facilities were being used against innocent Pakistani civilians, and also said “false and misleading” claims that the site was struck were intended to stir sentiment and cover “illegitimate support for cross-border terrorism”.
