MLB umpire has epic hot mic moment after ABS challenge

Major League Baseball’s Automated Ball-Strike System (ABS) had arguably its best moment on Saturday afternoon in spring training.

In a game between the Cleveland Guardians and San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale, Arizona, Robbie Ray was facing Sean Mooney, who was at the plate as the tying run in a 3-0 game and an 0-2 count with two outs in the top of the fourth.

Mooney took a low sinker that was called a ball by home plate umpire Bill Miller, but catcher Patrick Bailey challenged the call.

Only a batter, catcher or pitcher can challenge calls, and the challenge must be almost immediate. Each team gets two and retains correct challenges.

Miller announced to the crowd that the Giants were challenging the call to get out of the inning, but he accidentally left his mic on, providing a hilarious misstep.

“Please be a strike,” Miller said, before quickly realizing that everyone had just heard him. Bailey, too, had a pretty hysterical reaction.

Miller was actually rooting for his call to be wrong, but it was over 100 degrees in Scottsdale, so maybe Miller wanted to simply cool down.

GUARDIANS PITCHERS EMMANUEL CLASE, LUIS ORTIZ NO LONGER GETTING PAID AS THEY AWAIT GAMBLING TRIAL: REPORT

Miller did not get his wish. His call was correct by three-tenths of an inch. Two pitches later, Mooney struck out swinging, and everyone was able to cool down for a moment.

The ABS system was implemented in last year’s spring training after years of experimentation in the minor leagues and Arizona Fall League, and it will finally be brought to the regular season this year.

The system provides some interesting nuances because the strike zones will be based on each batter’s exact height, prompting many changes in several players’ listed measurements.

Saudi Arabia expels Iran military attache, four embassy staff | US-Israel war on Iran News

0

The move follows a drone strike on the Red Sea port of Yanbu, Saudi Arabia’s main oil export outlet, after Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz.

Saudi Arabia has given Iran’s military attache and embassy staff 24 hours to leave the kingdom due to “repeated Iranian attacks” on its territory.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Saturday that it had declared personae non gratae the “military attache of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Kingdom, the assistant military attache and three members of the mission staff”.

The move comes amid the US-Israeli war on Iran, which has seen Tehran target Saudi Arabia and its Gulf neighbours hosting US military assets with increasingly damaging attacks on civilian hubs and energy facilities, unleashing chaos across the region and roiling global energy markets.

Saudi Arabia, which holds the world’s second-largest proven crude oil reserves, has come under attack by hundreds of Iranian missiles and drones since the start of the war, the vast majority of which have been intercepted, authorities have said.

Among the attacks, energy facilities in the east of Saudi Arabia have been repeatedly targeted, as well as the capital, Riyadh, where the US embassy was hit by two drones earlier this month.

On Thursday, oil loadings at the Red Sea port of Yanbu were disrupted after a drone fell on the nearby Aramco-Exxon refinery, SAMREF.

The port is the only export outlet for Saudi Arabia after Iran effectively blocked tanker traffic leaving the Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz.

Saturday’s statement came after Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said earlier in the week that trust in Iran had been “shattered”, asserting his country’s right to defend itself.

The foreign minister said that Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states had “very significant capacities and capabilities that they could bring to bear should they choose to do so”.

Saudi Arabia’s relations with Iran have historically been rocky, but the two countries embarked on a Beijing-brokered rapprochement three years ago.

On Saturday, the Foreign Ministry said that continued Iranian attacks would lead to further escalation and have “significant consequences” for current and future relations.

The statement followed Qatar’s decision on Wednesday to declare the Iranian Embassy’s military and security attaches in Doha as personae non gratae, along with their staff.

Tiger Woods says disc replacement leaves him with good and bad days

Next month, the Masters will once again open golf’s major season.

Barring any injury setbacks, Tiger Woods could be on the hallowed grounds of Augusta National Golf Club, trying to make the cut in pursuit of a 16th major championship.

In February, the 15-time major winner suggested he had not ruled out playing in this year’s Masters.

Woods’ storied career has been derailed by a long list of injuries and subsequent surgeries. In more recent years, back issues have plagued the golf icon. Woods underwent a seventh back procedure last fall.

Although months have passed since the surgery, he said he still experiences ongoing challenges, which sometimes make it “hard to just move around.”

“Sometimes I have good days, sometimes I have bad days. Disc replacement is not a lot of fun,” Woods told Golf.com.

TIGER WOODS OFFERS FIRST PUBLIC COMMENTS SINCE LATEST BACK SURGERY AMID GROWING CONCERN OVER GOLF RETURN

Woods’ back troubles first surfaced in 2014. October’s surgery marked the second back procedure for Woods in a roughly 12-month span. Aside from his back troubles, Woods also ruptured an Achilles tendon in early 2025.

Fellow golfer Will Zalatoris underwent a disc replacement procedure in 2025.

“[Zalatoris] went through it. He had two levels done, and it takes time,” the 50-year-old noted. “So, as I said, I’ve had a lot of procedures prior to that, so the body doesn’t quite heal like it did when I was 24.”

Woods told reporters he “is trying to come back, but it just hasn’t worked out that way.” The five-time Masters champion also acknowledged his injury history, saying, “I’ve had a bad run of injuries last year … and then I’ve had two back operations, so it’s been a little rough go.”

Woods made the cut at the 2025 Masters, but he missed the cut in last season’s three subsequent major tournaments.

Never-before-seen photos of Neil Armstrong after near-death Gemini 8 released

Never-before-seen photos of late astronaut Neil Armstrong’s return to Earth following one of NASA’s closest calls 60 years ago are now available to the public.

The photos of Armstrong, who died in 2012, and fellow astronaut David Scott after their unplanned splashdown near Japan following their ill-fated Gemini 8 mission in 1966 have been donated to the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta, Ohio, by the widow of photographer Ron McQueeney.

Armstrong and Scott were forced to end the mission early when both spacecraft started to tumble uncontrollably after the astronauts completed the first successful docking in space.

They separated from the other spacecraft but continued to tumble at one revolution a second until Armstrong decided to deploy the thrusters to stop the spinning, which burned some of the fuel they would have needed to complete the mission. The astronauts risked losing consciousness during the spinning.

The men splashed down off Okinawa, Japan, about 10 hours after their launch on March 16, 1966, and were brought to Naha Air Base.

McQueeney, an Army veteran, was called in to document the astronauts after the splashdown, an event little media was at because it was unexpected.

“Sometimes, an incredible event can actually be documented by some of the most ordinary means,” Dante Centuori, executive director of the museum, told The Associated Press.

The photos show the men on the deck of a U.S. Navy ship that brought them to the base in Japan and waving to U.S. service members once they got to the base.

NASA ASTRONAUT REVEALS HE WAS THE ONE WHO HAD MEDICAL ISSUE THAT LED TO CREW’S EARLY RETURN TO EARTH

“The obvious thing that sticks out to me is that they are very happy to be alive,” historian Robert Poole, of the University of Lancashire, told the AP.

He added that Armstrong’s composure under pressure was one of the key things that led to him being chosen for the Apollo 11 moon landing three years later.

More than 50 years since the last moon mission, NASA is preparing to launch Artemis II, which will send four astronauts around the moon, next month.

“Seeing people launch to space frequently can suggest that it’s easy, but it’s very hard,” Emily Margolis, a curator at the National Air and Space Museum added. “And it requires a lot of resources and attention.”

Preparation for big changes: New faces will come to the posts of Army, Navy and CDS; Know whose tenure is ending in May – India-defense-leadership-change-cds-army-navy-drdo-appointments-2026

0

The next three months will see major changes in the country’s top military leadership. This process will start with the appointment of the new Chief of Defense Staff (CDS). The tenure of current CDS General Anil Chauhan is ending on May 30. The government will take a decision on the name of the new CDS in April. Apart from CDS, changes are also certain in important posts like Army Chief, Navy Chief and DRDO Chairman.

The extended tenure of CDS General Anil Chauhan is going to end on May 30. He is the second CDS of the country and has been on this post for almost 4 years. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, born on May 15, 1964, will also retire at the end of May after completing the age limit of 62 years. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, born on July 1, 1964, will complete the maximum age of 62 years on June 30.

Meanwhile, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) Chairman Dr. Sameer Kamat is also going to retire on May 31. However, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh and Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh still have time. The tenure of both will end in October this year.

The name of the new CDS will be approved by the end of April
According to the revised rules of the Defense Ministry, the scope of eligibility for selection for the new CDS is quite wide. All three star officers (Lieutenant General, Air Marshal, Vice Admiral) of the three services who are serving or have retired within the last two years are eligible. However, the age of the officer should be less than 62 years at the time of selection.

The government has a pool of more than 150 officers from which the new CDS can be selected. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet is likely to approve the name of the new CDS by the end of April.
