Firefox now has a free built-in VPN with 50GB monthly data limit

Mozilla released Firefox 149 with added privacy protection through a built-in VPN tool offering up to 50GB of monthly traffic.

The feature uses a secure proxy server to route only traffic from the browser, unlike the company’s commercial Mozilla VPN, which covers system-wide traffic.

“Whether you’re using public Wi-Fi while traveling, searching for sensitive health information, or shopping for something personal, this feature gives you a simple way to stay protected,” Mozilla says.

“Once you sign in and turn it on, you can hide your location and IP address by routing it through a secure proxy while you browse in Firefox.”

Users with a Mozilla account will get 50 GB of traffic per month. In-browser notifications will alert them when they approach the limit.

You can turn on the VPN feature through a toggle switch in the top right of the browser interface. There is also the option to activate the VPN only on specific websites, up to five, to save traffic.

Some websites and essential services are excluded from VPN routing to avoid account sign-in problems and make sure VPN reconnection works properly.

Mozilla says that it will only collect technical data relevant for maintaining the performance and stability of the new service, and interaction data to understand usage.

“For example, we may log whether a connection succeeded or failed, or record that 2 GB of data was used on a certain day,” the company explains.

The routing server is based in the U.S., and it is selected considering location and performance for the best user experience.

Starting today, the built-in VPN feature will roll out progressively to users in the U.S., UK, Germany, and France. Currently, there is no timeline for expanding the service to more regions.

Firefox 149 also comes with Split View, a function that has been present in Google Chrome for a while, which allows placing tabs side by side in the same browser window. Mozilla highlights use cases such as planning, comparing, note-taking, and small administrative tasks, such as tax filing.

Firefox also now automatically blocks notifications and revokes permissions from websites that the ‘SafeBrowsing’ security system has flagged as malicious.

Firefox 149 also fixes multiple security vulnerabilities. The list includes 46 issues, more than half receiving a high severity score. Several of them are user-after-free flaws, out-of-bounds errors, JIT engine flaws, and sandbox escape vulnerabilities.

Republican Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt on Tuesday announced Alan Armstrong as his choice to fill Markwayne Mullin’s U.S. Senate seat.

The Senate on Monday voted 54-45 to confirm President Donald Trump’s nomination of Mullin to serve as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Mullin is being sworn in Tuesday.

Stitt, who made the announcement during a press conference on Tuesday, described Armstrong in a post on X as “a proud third-generation Oklahoman, staunch conservative, respected business leader, and a devoted family man with an inspiring American Dream story.”

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., was the only Republican to vote against Mullin’s confirmation, while Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Martin Heinrich of New Mexico were the only Democrats to vote for confirmation.

Mullin cast a vote to green-light his own nomination.

Armstrong will not be able to run in the next election for the Senate seat he’s now filling because Oklahoma state law stipulates that “a person who is a prospective appointee shall submit to the Secretary of State an oath affirming that the person will not file as a candidate for the office when it next appears on the ballot.”

Palestinian FA calls for Israeli ban after FIFA discrimination report | Football News

The Israel Football Association was fined by FIFA for racism and discrimination breaches following Palestinian report.

The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) on Tuesday called for the Israeli Football Association (IFA) to receive a ban after a FIFA report found “multiple breaches” of its anti-discrimination obligations.

“We maintain our right and continue our efforts to ensure that the Israeli Football Association is expelled from all international institutions,” PFA chief Jibril Rajoub, who also heads the Palestinian Olympic Committee, said during a news conference in the occupied West Bank city of el-Bireh.

FIFA fined the IFA 150,000 Swiss francs ($190,700) for the breaches last week, “a significant decision” according to Rajoub, who said the penalty still “falls short of the minimum required”.

Rajoub cited the IFA’s “racist nature”, alleged criminal activity by some Israeli sports officials, and the inclusion of football clubs from Israeli West Bank settlements in the Israeli federation as grounds for a ban.

A recent report by the disciplinary committee of world football’s governing body found that the IFA “failed to take meaningful action against Beitar Jerusalem” for “persistent and well-documented racist behaviour”.

Rajoub, who is also secretary-general of Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas’s Fatah party’s central committee, said Tuesday that Beitar Jerusalem is “an extreme example of racism, fascism, and discrimination” but that such attitudes are commonplace in Israeli football clubs.

On the alleged criminal activity of Israeli sports officials, Rajoub said he was referring to instances of players killed during two years of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, and the destruction of many of the Palestinian territory’s sport facilities during the same war.

“Some figures within Israeli sports either participated in or openly supported what has been happening,” Rajoub said, stating that 1,007 athletes and coaches were killed in Gaza and 265 sports facilities were damaged since the war started in October 2023.

Media restrictions and limited access in Gaza have prevented AFP from independently verifying casualty figures or freely covering the fighting.

At least five football clubs based in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are members of the Israeli Football Association.

After a separate investigation, FIFA announced no action would be taken against the IFA over allegations that Israeli clubs based in the occupied West Bank were taking part in Israel’s leagues.

The UN has repeatedly condemned Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967, as illegal under international law.

Israel is part of UEFA, European football’s governing body.

Russia launched nearly 400 drones and dozens of missiles across Ukraine overnight Monday, triggering NATO to scramble fighter jets in neighboring countries, according to reports.

The massive aerial assault killed at least four people and injured more than two dozen, with strikes hitting multiple regions including Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv, The Associated Press reported, citing Ukrainian officials.

Poland and Romania both scrambled fighter jets as Russian strikes approached NATO airspace, East2West reported, with Warsaw placing air defenses on the “highest state of readiness,” Poland’s operational command said.

“Due to the activity of long-range Russian air forces conducting strikes on Ukrainian territory, Polish and allied air forces have begun operating in our airspace,” Poland’s operational command said, according to East2West.

Hours earlier, two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled in fellow NATO state Romania as Russian drones attacked Ukraine near the River Danube, the outlet reported. The Danube forms part of the border between Ukraine and Romania.

Ukrainian military leaders said Russian forces have intensified attacks along the roughly 750-mile front line, with hundreds of assaults reported in recent days.

The Institute for the Study of War said the escalation suggests Moscow’s long-anticipated spring-summer offensive is now underway, according to The Associated Press.

Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched nearly 400 drones. Ukrainian officials later said most were intercepted or disrupted, although some were able to hit their targets, according to East2West.

Russia also launched 23 cruise missiles and seven ballistic missiles at Ukraine during the night, hitting at least 10 locations across the country, according to the Ukrainian air force.

Ukrainian civilians have endured relentless barrages since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of its neighbor more than four years ago. U.S.-brokered talks between Moscow and Kyiv over the past year have brought no respite, with Russia rejecting Ukraine’s ceasefire offer.

The latest strikes came after Ukraine hit Russia’s largest Baltic port, Primorsk, in a pinpoint attack a day earlier, leaving the key export hub in flames, East2West reported.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ambassador to London, Andrey Kelin, threatened “dire” consequences over what he said was Ukraine’s use of Storm Shadow missiles, which this month hit and damaged a microelectronics plant in Russia’s Bryansk region.

“The British, without whose participation the use of Storm Shadow missiles is simply impossible, decided to remind everyone of both Ukraine and themselves,” he said. “However, any action has consequences. And for everyone involved in the tragedy in Bryansk, the consequences will be dire.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Ambala News: Country’s first mixer industry is facing the brunt of global war, business affected due to decline in demand.

0

Ambala city achieved the distinction of giving the first mixer to the country. Today he is struggling to save his own identity. Ambala’s mixer industry, which once had a strong presence not only in India but also in Dubai, Qatar and African countries for this important appliance for domestic needs, is now going through a period of crisis.

The impact on the supply chain due to the global war and continuously increasing inflation has slowed down the pace of this industry. The rise in raw material prices and fall in demand have put both manufacturers and traders in trouble. Due to which this traditional industry is struggling to regain its old shine.

Business is gasping under the pressure of global situation – Narendra Aggarwal

Mixer trader Narendra Aggarwal told that the mixer which runs every day in the kitchen and spreads the name of Ambala to foreign countries is in trouble due to the war in western countries. This is the city which gave the first mixer to the country. Now this industry seems to be gasping under the pressure of raw material inflation and global situation. About 200 small and big units manufacture mixers, juicers, grinders and choppers. More than 150 traders from the district are associated with them and the annual business reaches around Rs 250 crore. The livelihood of about 15 thousand families is directly linked to this.

Supply of raw materials is being affected – Traders

Mixi trader Vishwajat said that if the war continues for a long time, more trouble is sure to come for all of them. The mixer manufactured here not only goes to the state and country but also to foreign countries. Due to almost doubling of raw material rates, rates had to be increased by 15 percent. The supply of raw materials has been affected. Transport has become expensive. Exports have been affected. The mixer here is sent to many countries including Uganda, Dubai and Qatar. African countries are also supplied from here. In the current situation, exports have been affected. Due to this, a double challenge has arisen before the businessmen. Costs are increasing, on the other hand the market is shrinking. People associated with this business say that they have stopped receiving orders and there is a lot of variation in the rates. No one is ready to buy expensive goods. Problems are increasing for labor also.

This glorious industry of Ambala is now supported only by government intervention and market stability. If the situation does not improve soon, the noise that was once a symbol of Ambala’s economic strength may become silent forever.
