Actor Zachary Levi voiced strong support for embattled incumbent Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., urging people to back the congressman’s re-election bid.

“My fellow Americans, there are very few politicians that actually stand and fight for the people of this country like @RepThomasMassie does. He is a man of integrity and strength, and I wish more of the folks in DC would follow his example,” Levi declared in a Monday night post on X.

“Please consider supporting him in his re-election bid. Whether you live in Kentucky, or elsewhere, he is good for this country,” Levi wrote, sharing the link to a Massie campaign fundraiser.

Anthrophic’s Bun team trials port from Zig to Rust • The Register

Bun creator Jarred Sumner has posted a Zig-to-Rust porting guide, igniting speculation that the project may migrate away from Zig, though Sumner said there is no commitment to rewriting, only that he is “curious to see what a working version of this looks like.”

Bun, a JavaScript runtime and toolkit, is a prominent user of Zig, a general-purpose systems programming language designed by Andrew Kelley to improve on C, currently at version 0.16. Building with Zig has been a distinctive feature of Bun against its competitors Node.js, which uses C++, and Deno, which uses Rust.

That said, the Bun team has already forked Zig, claiming a four-times improvement in debug compilation times thanks to the use of parallel code generation with LLVM on macOS and Linux. These improvements cannot be upstreamed to Zig thanks to its strict no-AI policy for issues, pull requests (PRs), and comments on the bug tracker. The reason for the ban, according to Zig Software Foundation member Loris Cro, is that “the reality of LLM-based contributions has been mostly negative for us, from an increase in background noise due to worthless drive-by PRs full of hallucinations… to insane 10,000 line long first time PRs.”

Regarding Bun’s Zig fork, a core Zig team member commented that “the changes in this Zig fork are not desirable to upstream,” citing several reasons, including that “their parallelized semantic analysis implementation will exhibit non-deterministic behavior” and that another enhancement, splitting LLVM’s backend output into multiple modules, was a waste of time and that the team was investing in incremental compilation instead, “which can improve compilation speed by orders of magnitude.”

Zig’s no-AI policy may be embarrassing for Anthropic, which acquired Bun in late 2025 and uses it for Claude Code.

Another issue with Zig is that Kelley is unafraid to make breaking changes to the language, making it harder to rely on for major production projects.

Yesterday, Sumner committed a Zig-to-Rust porting guide to GitHub, explaining that the goal of “phase A” is to capture the logic, even if the Rust code does not compile, and that “Phase B makes it compile crate-by-crate.”

Despite this seeming statement of intent, Sumner said on Hacker News that “we haven’t committed to rewriting. There’s a very high chance all this code gets thrown out completely. I’m curious to see what a working version of this looks like, what it feels like, how it performs.”

Although the notion of a port from Zig to Rust has taken the community by surprise, the idea has been reasonably well received. Among Bun users, one comment is that “it always seemed a bit crazy to base your product off a language that is still in beta.” Bun is admired for its speed and flexibility, but the project has also been troubled by significant bugs and memory leaks.

One thing is certain: if Bun proceeds with the port, there will be extensive use of AI to implement it. There is precedent elsewhere. Cloudflare reimplemented most of the Next.js API in one week with AI, and the Ladybird browser project ported its JavaScript engine from C++ to Rust in two weeks.

Whether Bun migrates to Rust or not, Sumner is convinced that open source software (OSS) will make increasing use of AI. Commenting on Zig’s AI ban, he said on X: “I expect OSS to go the opposite direction: no human contribution allowed.” People will still discuss issues and prioritization, he said, “but the actual act of writing code, of submitting PRs, of replaying and addressing feedback, of implementation will be LLMs.” ®

Sudan accuses Ethiopia, UAE of being behind recent drone attacks | Sudan war News

Sudan claims it has evidence that four drone attacks have been launched from Ethiopia with UAE-supplied drones.

Sudan has accused Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) of playing a role in the recent drone attacks on the country, warning that the aggression will not be “met with silence”.

On Tuesday, the Sudanese government recalled its ambassador from Ethiopia, accusing Addis Ababa and the UAE of being behind an attack on Khartoum International Airport that forced authorities to suspend operations for three days.

Sudan’s military said it has evidence that four drone attacks have been launched from neighbouring Ethiopia since early March, alleging that the UAE supplied the drones.

In a statement, Ethiopia’s Foreign Ministry dismissed the allegations as “baseless” and accused Sudan of fomenting unrest by funding rebels in the Tigray region – the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). It added that it had not publicised the alleged violations of its territorial integrity because the two countries share a “historic and enduring bond of friendship”.

A senior official with the TPLF, Amanuel Assefa, dismissed the federal government’s remarks and told the AFP news agency: “We have no connections with the Sudanese authorities.” He said the government was blaming everyone “but themselves for their failures”.

The UAE has not yet reacted, but has repeatedly denied funding the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group that has been at war with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) for more than three years.

Last week, Khartoum International Airport received its first flight since the conflict began, marking a period of relative calm in the capital – now shattered by a renewed wave of drone attacks.

The government’s SAF retook the city from the RSF in March last year. In recent months, more than 1.8 million people have returned to Khartoum, but much of the city remains without electricity or basic services.

Drones have become a central component of the war, which the United Nations has described as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

More than 150,000 people are estimated to have been killed, while about 14 million have been displaced, according to the UN.

The war began in April 2023 after a power struggle erupted between the army and the RSF.

‘Very dangerous dynamic’

Alan Boswell, the Horn of Africa director at the International Crisis Group (ICG), warned that Sudan’s accusation against Ethiopia marks a dangerous new phase in a conflict already destabilising the region.

“Both countries … are facing massive internal challenges, and essentially, both sides now see the other as supporting their armed opponents,” Boswell told Al Jazeera.

That suspicion of each other, he argued, “creates a very dangerous dynamic … and risks making their own internal challenges much worse”.

Moreover, Boswell linked the timing of the attacks directly to the ongoing civil war in Sudan.

“The main trigger really is just that this war in Sudan just continues to escalate with no clear off-ramp, and it is really starting to tear apart the Horn of Africa region,” he said, pointing to outside backers on both sides, including the UAE.

Abu Dhabi has repeatedly denied involvement in the conflict.

Without foreign support, Boswell argued, “both warring parties in Sudan would have run out of munitions very early in this war”. He also warned of an “unprecedented” level of regional interference.

Prosecutors say Kirk murder case can proceed without DNA evidence

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Utah prosecutors say they are prepared to proceed with a preliminary hearing against Tyler Robinson, the man accused of assassinating conservative icon Charlie Kirk, without additional DNA analysis, according to a new court filing.

The filing, made by prosecutors Friday, said that they don’t need DNA evidence allegedly tying Robinson to the crimes in order to hold the preliminary hearing, where more evidence is expected to be produced.

“The State has previously proffered that it intends to introduce at the preliminary hearing DNA evidence tying Defendant to the crimes charged in the Information,” prosecutors said in their filing.

“However, if the Court finds that the State’s introduction of that evidence at the preliminary hearing warrants a continuance, the State is prepared—in the interest of moving this case forward—to proceed with the preliminary hearing as scheduled without the DNA evidence. The State has made this decision after concluding that the other evidence it intends to introduce is more than sufficient to establish probable cause for bindover.”

Robinson’s attorneys said in the filing that defense attorneys received more than 600,000 files from prosecutors during a meeting on March 12, which they say will take time to review. The team also said that the discovery is not yet complete.

Discovery in this case is incomplete, voluminous, and the processing of it is complex,” the defense team wrote.

Prosecutors in an April 30 filing accused Robinson’s defense team of misleading the public surrounding ballistics testing.

In a previous filing, Robinson’s attorneys claimed that “the ATF was unable to identify the bullet recovered at autopsy to the rifle allegedly tied to Mr. Robinson.”

However, Deputy Utah County Attorney Christopher Ballard said the claim was misleading and “misstated,” which resulted in widespread media coverage.

“The ATF was unable to identify or exclude the bullet as having been fired from the rifle,” Ballard wrote. “Defendant reinforced this misleading inference by following it up with, ‘the defense may very well decide to offer the testimony of the ATF firearm analyst as exculpatory evidence.'”

In the ATF report’s appendix, officials explained that “inconclusive” findings indicate that it was “an examiner’s opinion that there is an insufficient quality and/or quantity of individual characteristics to identify or exclude.”

What’s the significance of UAE’s Fujairah, hit on Monday? | Conflict News

0

If confirmed, it would be Iran’s first attack on the UAE since the US-Iran ceasefire took effect on April 8.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has accused Iran of launching “a barrage” of missiles and drones at the port of the eastern emirate of Fujairah, injuring three Indian nationals and setting an oil refinery at the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone ablaze.

The UAE’s Ministry of Defence said its air defences had “engaged” 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles and four drones launched from Iran over the course of the day on Monday.

Iran’s state television reported that military officials laid the blame for the attacks on the “US military’s adventurism”.

Where is Fujairah?

Fujairah is one of the seven emirates of the UAE. It is home to a multipurpose deep-sea port, located on the Gulf of Oman.

The port lies about 70 nautical miles (roughly 130km, or 80 miles) outside the Strait of Hormuz and about 130km east of Dubai.

This is not the first time Fujairah has been targeted. On April 6, authorities in the emirate said they were responding to an “incident” in which a drone approached from Iran towards the building of the telecommunications company, du. They did not say whether the drone struck, and did not report any injuries.

What is the significance of the Fujairah port?

The port serves multiple purposes. It is the terminus of the Habshan-Fujairah oil pipeline, also known as the Abu Dhabi Crude Oil Pipeline (ADCOP).

This 380km (235-mile) pipeline runs from Habshan, an oil and gasfield in southwestern Abu Dhabi, to the port of Fujairah.

The pipeline, which became operational in 2012, can carry about 1.5 million barrels of oil per day (bpd).

This is significant because it makes the Habshan-Fujairah pipeline one of the key routes in the Middle East, which producers may turn to as they assess ways to offset the disruption caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

On Monday, US President Trump said US forces would begin escorting stranded ships through the Strait of Hormuz, signalling a direct challenge to Iran’s closure of the strategic waterway, through which 20 percent of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supplies are shipped in peacetime. Iran’s threats to attack ships have kept the strait effectively closed since US-Israeli attacks started on February 28.

The closure of the vital maritime corridor has sent oil and fertiliser prices surging around the world and prompted fears of a global recession and food crisis.

It is unclear how much oil is now being transported through the Habshan-Fujairah pipeline. However, oil exports from Fujairah do appear to have risen in the past month since the closure of the strait, averaging 1.62 million bpd in March compared with 1.17 million bpd in February, Kpler analyst Johannes Rauball told the Reuters news agency.

Besides this, the Fujairah port is a major global hub for ship refuelling and also provides general cargo, dry bulk and container services.

What has the response been to the attack on the UAE?

After a day of reported drone and missile attacks inside the UAE, including the one that caused a fire in an oil refinery at Fujairah, the UAE said Iranian attacks marked a serious escalation in tensions in the Gulf and it reserved the right to respond.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in an X post on Tuesday that the attack was “unacceptable”.

“We call for immediate cessation of these hostilities and the targeting of civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians,” the ministry said.

Iranian authorities released a map of what they said was an expanded maritime area now under Iranian control, stretching beyond the strait to include lengthy sections of the UAE coastline, sparking fears of further regional conflict.

“Yellowstone” spinoff preview promises extreme violence, stars two major characters

A new preview is out for the upcoming “Yellowstone” spinoff “Dutton Ranch,” and it looks exceptional.

Taylor Sheridan’s latest expansion of the neo-Western universe will focus on Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) following the events of the original series.

Montana is long gone. Now, the two are off to Texas to face new enemies, rivals and problems that will require violence to solve.

“Dutton Ranch” preview promises extreme violence.

The hype surrounding “Dutton Ranch” has been off the charts. It’s not hard to understand why. Rip and Beth were two of the most popular characters in “Yellowstone.”

‘YELLOWSTONE’ STARS COLE HAUSER, KELLY REILLY CONFIRMED FOR SPIN-OFF SERIES ALONGSIDE MAJOR CASTING ADDITION

Now, it’s time to start the next chapter. It looks like there will be plenty of bloodshed and gunfights, judging from the trailer released Tuesday.

You can watch the new preview below, and let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

This show looks like it’s going to keep the same energy that made “Yellowstone” a monster hit. Fans have already seen the disaster that is “Marshals” on CBS.

‘YELLOWSTONE’ SPINOFF ‘MARSHALS’ SHOCKS FANS BY KILLING OFF MAJOR DUTTON FAMILY MEMBER IN PREMIERE

Part of the reason “Marshals” doesn’t hit the same way is because it’s on broadcast TV. “Dutton Ranch” won’t have that issue.

It will stream on Paramount+, and that means nothing is off-limits.

Furthermore, Ed Harris is a new addition to the “Yellowstone” universe. That’s an A+ casting decision. Harris is a Hollywood legend, and while I initially thought he might be a “Dutton Ranch” villain, it appears he’s going to be a good guy.

Also, “I thought I’d seen my last firefight” goes incredibly hard in the trailer. I wonder if there’s a Vietnam War or a veteran background to the character, like what fans saw with Kayce Dutton.

China-Linked UAT-8302 Targets Governments Using Shared APT Malware Across Regions

Ravie LakshmananMay 05, 2026Network Security / Endpoint Security

A sophisticated China-nexus advanced persistent threat (APT) group has been attributed to attacks targeting government entities in South America since at least late 2024 and government agencies in southeastern Europe in 2025.

The activity is being tracked by Cisco Talos under the moniker UAT-8302, with post-exploitation involving the deployment of custom-made malware families that have been put to use by other China-aligned hacking groups.

Notable among the malware families is a .NET-based backdoor dubbed NetDraft (aka NosyDoor), a C# variant of FINALDRAFT (aka Squidoor) that has been previously linked to threat clusters known as Ink Dragon, CL-STA-0049, Earth Alux, Jewelbug, and REF7707.

ESET is tracking the use of NosyDoor to a group it calls LongNosedGoblin. Interestingly, the same malware has also been deployed against Russian IT organizations by a threat actor referred to as Erudite Mogwai (aka Space Pirates and Webworm), per Russian cybersecurity company Solar, which has given it the name LuckyStrike Agent.

Some of the other tools utilized by UAT-8302 are as follows –

“Malware deployed by UAT-8302 connects it to several previously publicly disclosed threat clusters, indicating a close operating relationship between them at the very least,” Talos researchers Jungsoo An, Asheer Malhotra, and Brandon White said in a technical report published today.

“Overall, the various malicious artifacts deployed by UAT-8302 indicate that the group has access to tools used by other sophisticated APT actors, all of which have been assessed as China-nexus or Chinese-speaking by various third-party industry reports.”

It’s currently not known what initial access methods the adversary employs to break into target networks, but it’s suspected to involve the tried-and-tested approach of weaponizing zero-day and N-day exploits in web applications.

Upon gaining a foothold, the attackers are known to conduct extensive reconnaissance to map out the network, run open-source tools like gogo to perform automated scanning, and move laterally across the environment. The attack chains culminate in the deployment of NetDraft, CloudSorcerer (version 3.0), and VShell.

UAT-8302 has also been observed using a Rust-based variant of SNOWLIGHT called SNOWRUST to download the VShell payload from a remote server and execute it. Besides using custom malware, the threat actor sets up alternative means of backdoor access using proxy and VPN tools like Stowaway and SoftEther VPN.

The findings underscore the trend of advanced collaboration tactics between multiple China-aligned groups. In October 2025, Trend Micro shed light on a phenomenon called Premier Pass-as-a-Service, where initial access obtained by Earth Estries is passed to Earth Naga for follow-on exploitation, clouding attrition efforts. This partnership is assessed to have existed since at least late 2023.

“Premier Pass-as-a-Service provides direct access to critical assets, reducing the time spent on reconnaissance, initial exploitation and lateral movement phases,” Trend Micro said. “Although the full extent of this model is not yet known, the limited number of observed incidents, combined with the substantial risk of exposure such a service entails, suggests that access is likely restricted to a small circle of threat actors.”
