Oppression not only during the day but also at night: Hottest night of May in Delhi, 15 year record broken; IMD issued warning – Fifteen Year Old Record Of Highest Temperature In May Broken In Delhi

Delhi recorded its hottest night so far in the month of May, when the minimum temperature reached 31.9 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, this is the highest minimum temperature in the last 15 years. Earlier on May 26, 2012, the minimum temperature was recorded at 32.5 degrees Celsius.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), many stations including Safdarjung and Lodhi Road witnessed hot weather conditions during the night. A hot night is declared when the maximum temperature is 40 degrees Celsius or more and the minimum temperature is 4.5 to 6.4 degrees Celsius above normal.

According to the stations, the minimum temperature in Safdarjung was 31.9 degrees Celsius, which is 5.2 degrees above normal. Ridge recorded 30.6 degrees (4.4 degrees higher), Palam 30.5 degrees (3.4 degrees higher), Lodhi Road 29.6 degrees (4.6 degrees higher) and Ayanagar 27.4 degrees Celsius (0.7 degrees higher).

Orange alert has been issued in the city as the maximum temperature is likely to reach 46 degrees Celsius and heat wave is expected during the day. The air quality was also recorded in the ‘moderate’ category at 9 am, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 153. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), 0-50 falls in the ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’ and 401-500 ‘severe’ category.
