
Kerala’s star long jump player Ansi Sojan created history on the fourth day of the National Inter-State Athletics Championship. 25-year-old Ansi made a 22-year-old national record for Indian women’s long jump with a spectacular jump of 6.88 meters.
Anju Bobby George made the record in 2004
Earlier this record was in the name of Indian athletics legend Anju Bobby George. He made this national record by jumping 6.83 meters during the Athens Summer Olympics in 2004, which stood till now. Ansi Sojan not only won the gold medal with a jump of 6.88 meters but also created a new history in Indian athletics. Her achievement is considered to take the level of women’s long jump in the country to new heights. The breaking of this record which remained unbroken for 22 years is a major achievement for Indian athletics. This performance of Ansi has also strengthened India’s medal hopes in the upcoming international competitions.
