Mani Shankar Aiyar said – There are no Panchayati Raj supporters left in the country; Said to Kerala CM – Appeal by falling at his feet, Congress… – Mani Shankar Aiyar Kerala Cm And Panchayati Raj Remark Congress Party Distances Itself

The temperature of politics has risen before the upcoming assembly elections in Kerala. Former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar made such a claim regarding Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan that there has been an earthquake in the Congress. Along with this, Iyer stressed the need to amend the law to improve Panchayati Raj in Kerala. Mani Shankar Aiyar was addressing the international seminar titled ‘Vision 2031: Development and Democracy’ in Thiruvananthapuram, which was inaugurated by CM Vijayan.

During this programme, Mani Shankar Aiyar suggested that necessary amendments should be made to legally secure Kerala’s top position in the Panchayati Raj system. Aiyar, who served as Panchayati Raj minister during the Congress-led UPA government, recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of India. He said that the Father of the Nation had envisioned a country where even the poorest of the poor felt a sense of ownership and believed that they had an effective role in nation building.

He further said that it may seem ironic that the state making the most commendable progress towards that goal is Kerala, which is ruled by a ‘Marxist-Leninist party’. The Congress leader further said, ‘I don’t know whether it is a compliment or an insult, but I deeply regret the absence of my party colleagues on this occasion, because it is a state program and a national occasion.’
