The budget session of Parliament continues. Meanwhile, the opposition presented a notice of no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, after which now flaws have come to light in the no-confidence motion notice against the Speaker, instructions have been given to amend it.

Actually, 118 MPs have signed the no-confidence motion. Meanwhile, according to Lok Sabha sources, Speaker Om Birla has directed the Secretariat to amend the defective notice presented by the opposition to save it from being rejected and has ordered immediate action.

Deficiencies found in the notice of no-confidence motion

According to Lok Sabha Secretariat source, shortcomings have been found in the notice of opposition MPs demanding the removal of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The notice mentions the events of February 2025 four times, on the basis of which it could have been rejected as per the rules.

However, the Speaker has directed the Secretariat to correct the deficiencies in the notice and take further action. Om Birla has ordered to take swift action as per the rules. The notice will be listed after the second phase of the budget session begins. After receiving the changed notice, it will be immediately investigated as per the prescribed rules.

Discussion on no-confidence motion possible on March 9

The opposition’s no-confidence motion can be discussed in Parliament on March 9. Let us tell you that February 13 is the last day of the first session of the budget session. After this, the proceedings of the House will resume from March 8 and discussion can take place on March 9.

The opposition made this allegation

Let us tell you that on Tuesday (February 10), Congress presented a no-confidence motion against the Lok Sabha Speaker, which was signed by 118 MPs. According to sources, opposition MPs alleged ‘blatantly partisan’ conduct and said leaders of opposition parties were not allowed to speak.

Which incidents were mentioned?

The no-confidence motion notice mentions four incidents against the Speaker, including the opposition’s allegation that Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to speak in the House during the discussion on the motion of thanks to the President’s address. Along with this, the opposition MPs also raised issues about the suspension of eight MPs, the “objectionable and personal attacks” made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on former Prime Ministers and the statement of Speaker Om Birla in which he had said that after receiving information about some Congress MPs coming to the Prime Minister’s seat and ‘carrying out an incident’, he had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to come to the House so that no untoward incident takes place.

Birla is not participating in the proceedings of the House

Meanwhile, according to sources, Speaker Om Birla has decided on moral grounds that he will not participate in the proceedings of the House until the no-confidence motion against him is resolved.
