Heart broken due to surrender of batsmen... Shivam Dubey's courage also did not workZoom

South Africa made India’s path to the semi-finals difficult by defeating India in the Super 8 match.

New Delhi. South Africa dashed the hopes of crores of Indian fans by stopping India’s victory chariot in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8. While the edge of the Indian bowlers appeared blunt on the Ahmedabad pitch, the ‘explosive’ batting order also collapsed like a pack of cards. This crushing defeat has not only shaken the confidence of Team India, but has also made the road to the semi-finals a ‘bed of thorns’. After this bitter sip of defeat, India’s fate is now at the mercy of its own equations as well. The Indian team will face Zimbabwe in its second match of Super 8 and West Indies in the third match. This defeat of 76 runs by India is the second biggest defeat in the T20 World Cup. Earlier in 2019, New Zealand had defeated India by 80 runs.

When runs were needed and credibility was at stake, the Indian batsmen looked helpless in front of the fiery balls of the South African bowlers. The bowlers of the Proteas team shook the foundation of Indian batting with their speed and precise line-length, which made it difficult for the big bowlers to stay on the crease. Amidst this disappointing decline, only Shivam Dubey showed his steely will and courage to never accept defeat. While there was a fall of wickets on one side, Dubey single-handedly took charge and counterattacked, but his courageous struggle also proved to be insufficient to bring the team out of the pit of defeat.
