Ethanol Export: India will soon export ethanol to neighboring countries, talks started with Nepal – India-ethanol-export-nepal-talks-energy-cooperation-saarc-foreign-policy

India is now preparing to expand its energy power to South Asian countries (SAARC). Grains Ethanol Manufacturers Association (GEMA) President CK Jain said that India is discussing to export ethanol to Nepal. Recently a delegation visited Nepal, where it has been suggested to introduce 10% ethanol blending.

Jain said that at present there is a ban on export of 1G ethanol, but considering the demand of neighboring countries, the government can consider it. This will not only strengthen the rural economy but will also increase the income of farmers. According to him, the current E20 target is resulting in savings of Rs 40,000 crore, which can be taken up to Rs 1 lakh crore by moving to higher blending levels like E85 and E100.

On flex-fuel engines, he said talks were ongoing between the government and SIAM. These vehicles may be seen on the roads in the next 2-3 years. However, he acknowledged that there is consumer confusion about mileage, while the environmental and foreign exchange benefits are far greater.
