Delhi News: Preparations intensified for waterlogging before monsoon in Delhi, Corporation started cleaning of drains.

In view of the possibility of possible waterlogging in the capital before the monsoon, Delhi Municipal Corporation has started a comprehensive cleaning campaign of drains. Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh said that a target has been set to complete the cleaning of all the drains before the stipulated time, so that the citizens do not have to face any inconvenience during the rains. The corporation administration has included it among the priority works and the preparations are being regularly monitored.

Special focus on cleaning small drains

The Mayor informed that there are a total of 12,892 drains with depth of less than 4 feet in the jurisdiction of Delhi Municipal Corporation, whose total length is 6,069.88 kilometers. From January 2026 till now, 8,047 metric tons of silt has been removed from these drains. He said that these small drains are cleaned regularly and the process of desilting is going on continuously, so that the flow of water is not disrupted during the rainy season.

So many metric tons of silt were taken out from 800 big drains

A total of 800 big drains with depth of more than 4 feet also come under the jurisdiction of the corporation, whose total length is 530.82 kilometers. From January 2026 till now, 16,966 metric tons of silt has been removed from these drains. The Mayor clarified that cleaning of big drains is being given priority, because the drainage system depends more on them during the rains.

Tender process started for cleaning big drains

Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh said that the process of inviting tenders for comprehensive and machine-based cleaning of big drains has been started. As soon as the tender process is completed, the work of desilting will be further intensified. He has instructed the officials that all the work should be completed before time and there should be no compromise on quality.

Special arrangements for pumping at sensitive places

A special plan is being prepared for the identified sensitive places with waterlogging. The Mayor said that additional pumps will be arranged if necessary, so that immediate drainage of water can be ensured and normal life is not affected.

Clean and beautiful Delhi aimed at ‘Triple Engine’ coordination

The Mayor said that the ‘Triple Engine’ government in Delhi is continuously working in the interest of the citizens. Work is being done by establishing complete coordination between Delhi Municipal Corporation and Delhi Government, so that the capital can be made the cleanest and beautiful city of the country. He said that every possible support is being received from the Delhi government and with joint efforts new achievements will be achieved in the field of cleanliness.

Appeal for cooperation from citizens

In the end, the Mayor appealed to the people of Delhi to cooperate with the Corporation in maintaining cleanliness. Do not throw garbage in the drains, so that the drainage system remains effective and there is no problem during the rains.
