Eid preparations are going on in full swing in Jama Masjid area of Delhi. There is a crowd in the markets, shopping is going on in the shops and the enthusiasm of the festival is clearly visible among the people. But this time the shortage of LPG gas has had a big impact on this happy atmosphere. From small to big shopkeepers are facing this crisis.
Difficulties increased for restaurant businessmen
Food and beverage businessmen have been most affected by the gas shortage. Mohammad, who runs a restaurant, says that earlier he used to get many cylinders easily, but now it is difficult to get even one cylinder.
He says that out of compulsion he had to use the cylinder at home and the family had to be sent to relatives’ place. Their pain is clearly visible that the atmosphere of Eid will remain, but the business has become weak.
Inflation hits vermicelli and sweets
The price of the best selling vermicelli has also increased on Eid. Earlier, the prices of vermicelli which used to be cheap have now increased. Shopkeepers say that due to increase in cost of gas, the cost has increased, hence it has become difficult to sell goods at the old price.
Same is the situation at sweet shops also. There has been a huge increase in the prices of dishes like Shahi Tukda. Many shopkeepers have stopped making some items because they consume a lot of gas. Due to this, the number of customers also seems to be decreasing slightly.
Biryani and kebab also became expensive
The famous biryani and kebabs of Jama Masjid area are also no longer as cheap as before. The cost of food has increased due to increase in the prices of chicken, flour and gas. Many shopkeepers have now started cooking on coal due to shortage of gas, due to which the work has also slowed down.
There is excitement of Eid in the markets and people are also shopping. But the shortage of gas has increased the worries of businessmen. If the situation does not improve soon, this problem may deepen in the coming days and its effect may be seen even after the festival.
