Delhi: Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Sandhu announces – Capital will be drug-free by 2027, Anti-Narcotics Task Force police station will be built – Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Sandhu Announces Drug-free Capital By 2027

Further intensifying the fight against drug trade in Delhi, the first dedicated Anti-Narcotics Task Force police station will be set up in the capital. Announcing this in the drug destruction program, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that a target has been set to make Delhi drug free by the year 2027.

The Lieutenant Governor said that this program is not limited to just destroying the seized drugs, but is an effort to eliminate the entire network that is harming the youth, families and the future of the society. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Drug Free India vision, he said that addiction brings darkness, destruction and devastation and a collective fight against it is necessary.

In the programme, about 1,700 kg of drugs were scientifically destroyed, whose value in the international market was estimated to be around Rs 72 crore. The Lieutenant Governor called it a victory for the law and a major action against organized crime. He said that Delhi Police has adopted a comprehensive strategy instead of limiting itself to just general policing.

This includes financial investigation, illegal asset seizure, hotspot mapping, Operation Kavach, school outreach campaigns and coordination between various agencies under NCORD. He said that illicit money earned from drugs causes double damage to the society, first through addiction and then by promoting organized crime.

Youth should avoid false glow: The Lieutenant Governor said that the fight against drugs cannot be won by the police or the government alone. For this, families, teachers, health agencies, social organizations and communities will have to come together. Appealing to the youth, he said that they should avoid false glitter and adopt sports, education and purposeful life. He also appealed to the citizens to report drug related activities.

For this, they were asked to use the Central Government’s Manas Portal and Helpline 1933, where people can lodge complaints or seek consultation confidentially. The Lieutenant Governor said that Delhi will have to be made a city where the drug trade neither gets market, nor protection nor social acceptance.
