The Delhi government on Saturday released the draft Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026-2030. The objective of this policy is to reduce vehicular pollution and under this, aggressive incentives have been given to make electric vehicles cheaper.

About 23 percent of the pollution during winter in Delhi comes from vehicles. The benefits offered under this policy will also depend on how soon you purchase the EV. Along with this, facilities like single-window clearance for home and community charging stations are also included.

How much will you save by buying an EV?

The government is proposing to provide financial incentives on several segments including electric two-wheelers and electric autos till March 31, 2030.

Electric Two-Wheeler:

Incentive up to Rs 10,000 per kWh (maximum Rs 30,000) will be available in the first year.

By the third year it will come down to Rs 3,300 per kWh (maximum Rs 10,000).

For this, the price of the vehicle should be less than Rs 2.25 lakh.

Electric Auto(L5M):

An incentive of Rs 50,000 will be given in the first year, Rs 40,000 in the second year and Rs 30,000 in the third year.

Electric four-wheel cargo vehicle (N1):

An incentive of Rs 1,00,000 will be given in the first year, Rs 75,000 in the second year and Rs 50,000 in the third year.

What exemption will be available in road tax and registration?

There will be 100 percent exemption in road tax and registration fees on most electric vehicles.

Whereas strong hybrid cars priced below Rs 30 lakh will be given 50 percent discount.

Electric cars priced above Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom) will not get this discount.

Will there be complete tax exemption?

Under the Draft EV Policy 2026-2030, most electric vehicles will get 100 percent exemption in road tax and registration fees till March 2030.

What will be the benefit of scrapping an old car?

If you scrap a BS-IV or older vehicle registered in Delhi and buy a new EV within 6 months, you will get an additional “Scrapping Incentive”.

This benefit will be available only if you purchase the EV within 6 months of receiving the Certificate of Deposit (CoD) from an authorized scrapping centre.

Car: Rs 1,00,000 (for first Rs 1 lakh applicants; car price should be less than Rs 30 lakh)

Two-wheeler: Rs 10,000

Three-Wheeler and N1 Truck: Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000

This amount will be given directly to the beneficiary’s account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

What deadlines have been set?

Strict timelines have been set for the city to move towards fully electric mobility.

Three-Wheeler: Only electric models will be registered from January 1, 2027.

Two-Wheeler: All new registrations will be electric from April 1, 2028.

Aggregators: New petrol/diesel vehicles have already been banned in delivery and ride-sharing services.

How will EV charging be made easier?

As per the policy, it will be mandatory for every EV dealer in Delhi to set up at least one public charging station.

Apart from this, the facility of “single window clearance” will be provided for setting up charging points in the house or society.
