Chargesheet filed in the case of attack on Farooq Abdullah, 7 member SIT was formed to investigate

The police have completed the investigation in the high-profile case of attempted murderous attack on National Conference (NC) President and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Dr. Farooq Abdullah. On Friday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed a detailed charge sheet of this case in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Jammu. In this charge sheet, many important revelations have been made regarding the conspiracy of the attack and the accused.

According to the charge sheet and police information, this horrifying incident took place on March 11, 2026. Dr. Farooq Abdullah had gone to attend a wedding ceremony at the Royal Park Banquet Hall in Greater Kailash, Jammu. At around 10:10 pm, when he was returning from the function, 63-year-old accused Kamal Singh Jamwal, who was present there, took out his revolver and tried to shoot at the former Chief Minister from close range.

Accused Kamal Singh Jamwal is a resident of Purani Mandi and his father’s name is Ajit Singh Jamwal. It was fortunate that the policemen deployed for the security of Dr. Farooq took immediate action and caught the accused and a major incident was averted.

A 7-member SIT was formed to investigate the attack.

In view of this major breach in the security of the former Chief Minister and the seriousness of the deadly attack, on March 14, Jammu Zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bhim Sen Tooti had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT). This 7-member team was led under the supervision of DIG, Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range. The main objective of this team was to investigate the deep conspiracy behind the attack and the failed murder attempt from all aspects.

Immediately after this serious incident, a case was registered against the accused under strict sections at Police Station Gangyal, Jammu. The police had started investigation by registering a case under FIR number 29/2026, Section 109 of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act, the charge sheet of which has now been submitted to the court.
