A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team on Wednesday revisited the crime scene as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of Chandranath Rath, an aide to Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari, in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district. This is the second time the agency has reached the spot after the case was handed over to the CBI from the state police.

On the request of the state government, CBI took over the investigation of this murder case on Monday. After this, an FIR was registered and a seven-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) of senior officers was formed to investigate the case. The federal agency team reached the spot equipped with advanced 3D scanners, indicating a significant technological advancement in the investigation.

Digital map of crime scene made with 3D scanner

According to sources, these scanners are being used to create a digital map of the incident site, which will help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the death. The forensic reconstruction is expected to provide accurate spatial analysis of the crime scene, which will help the CBI corroborate witness statements and evidence found at the crime scene.

The team spent several hours at the scene, carefully scanning the surrounding area. Along with this, important information was recorded about important things related to the incident.

Three arrested so far in murder case

So far, three people have been arrested from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in connection with the Chandranath Rath murder case, including a sharp shooter. They have been identified as Mayank Raj Mishra, Vicky Maurya and Raj Singh. The investigators are currently interrogating him, so that the entire conspiracy can be unearthed. Also, the mastermind behind the murder can be identified.

The attackers fired bullets in rapid succession

Chandranath Rath was shot on the night of May 6 at Dohariya Lane in Madhyagram, about seven kilometers from the Kolkata airport. BJP leaders had called it a planned murder. Rath’s SUV was stopped by a car near his residence, following which armed men riding on two-wheelers opened fire, killing him.

The attackers abandoned one car and fled in another red car and a motorcycle. Two motorcycles linked to the crime were later found, one near the incident site and the other in Barasat, about six kilometers away. According to the police, the registration plates of all the vehicles were allegedly forged. Their engine and chassis numbers were tampered with.
