International tension has reached its peak regarding the safety of ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has categorically opposed a joint effort by Britain and France aimed at strengthening maritime security in the region after the end of the war. In recent days, attacks on commercial ships in the Persian Gulf have further fueled this tension.
Iran warned
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi has issued the message through social media. He said the presence of French and British ships in the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a violation of international law. According to Gharibabadi, if these countries cooperate with any illegal action by the US, and even take a step forward, the Iranian armed forces will respond immediately and decisively.
What is France’s side?
Amidst Iran’s tough stance, French President Emmanuel Macron has tried to clarify the situation. Macron said that this is not a military deployment. He described it as an international mission, the aim of which is to secure shipping routes when conditions are favourable. However, uncertainty remains regarding security in the area.
American intervention banned
Amid increasing attacks in the Persian Gulf, America has also stopped its mission to guide merchant ships for the time being. The Strait of Hormuz is the world’s most sensitive oil supply route, where the navies of Iran and Western countries are now seen standing face to face.
