The proposed deal includes a shore-based anti-ship version of the BrahMos missile. This will provide the necessary strength to Vietnam’s defense capabilities in the South China Sea. After many defense agreements between India and Vietnam, the BrahMos deal will take the military cooperation between the two countries to a new height. What is the strategic importance of giving BrahMos to Philippines?

Philippines is the first country in the world to purchase BrahMos missile from India. Recently, BrahMos has also signed a similar agreement with Indonesia. These missiles will be deployed on Indonesian warships, thereby strengthening Indonesia’s position in the South China Sea. Now Vietnam will be the third largest South-East Asian country in this queue after Philippines and Indonesia. The increasing demand for BrahMos in South-East Asian countries will be helpful in maintaining the regional balance of power amid China’s maritime influence.
