According to sources, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is investigating the alleged irregularities of more than Rs 7 crore in donations received in the Ram Temple. Eight people have been arrested and sent to jail after alleged lapses in donation management at various levels came to light during the investigation. However, the investigating agencies have not yet made Champat Rai and Anil Mishra accused.

Who is Champat Rai?

80 year old Champat Rai is a resident of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. Before coming into public life, he was a chemistry professor. Joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at an early age and became a part of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in the year 1980. He has been counted among the prominent faces of the Ram Mandir movement. He also remained in jail for 18 months during the Emergency. After the formation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust in the year 2020, he was made the General Secretary. He had the responsibility of temple construction, administration and donation management.

What was the role of Anil Mishra?

Anil Mishra was the trustee of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. He has been associated with the social and administrative work of Ayodhya for a long time. His role in the trust was to oversee the administrative functions of the temple, the offerings and donation system. He was included in the trust due to his strong hold at the local level.
