Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia and the changing global security situation, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review the country’s defense preparedness. Recently, on March 22, a CCS meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which the energy and fertilizer supply was reviewed.

Increasing impact of West Asia conflict

The ongoing conflict in West Asia has now reached its fourth week. This has affected trade through the Strait of Hormuz. Tension increased further after the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in joint strikes by America and Israel on February 28. In response, Iran targeted American and Israeli bases in the Gulf region, which has increased pressure on the international energy market and global economic stability.

Issue echoed in Parliament also

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday described the situation in West Asia in the Lok Sabha as worrying and informed about its possible effects on India. He said that this conflict has become a big challenge not only for economic and national security, but also at the humanitarian level. The Prime Minister also underlined that India’s major crude oil and gas needs are met from this region, while this region is also very important for global trade.
