Google committed to partner in the country’s AI transformation
Pichai said India is poised for extraordinary advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and Google is committed to partnering in the country’s AI transformation. He said that AI is the biggest platform change of our lifetime, capable of solving large-scale challenges ranging from better diagnostics in healthcare to providing real-time alerts to farmers.
Pichai described India’s diversity, multilingual ecosystem and strong digital public infrastructure as a strong base for innovation, saying it could become a model for democratic use of AI globally. He stressed that AI development must prioritize trust, security and inclusivity, so that the technology can deliver real benefits to people in local languages and contexts.
India-America Connect Initiative announced
During this, Pichai also announced ‘India-America Connect Initiative’, under which new subsea cable routes will be developed to increase AI connectivity between the US, India and several regions of the Southern Hemisphere. He said that Google is working on full-stack connectivity in India and he is very excited about the future.
He also mentioned the plan for a $15 billion AI hub in India, which will include gigawatt-level computing capacity and an international subsea cable gateway, which will boost job creation and advanced AI infrastructure.
Google announces skilling programs
Google also announced skilling programs, including the Google AI Professional Certificate Program in English and Hindi, which will target students and early-career professionals. Other initiatives include supporting over 2 crore government employees with Karmayogi Bharat, the rollout of Gen AI tools in 10,000 schools with Atal Tinkering Labs, and the $30 million ‘AI for Science Impact Challenge’.
Pichai said AI has the greatest impact when it is developed and implemented in collaboration with organizations that understand communities, and the emphasis is on increasing responsible and widespread AI access through partnerships with IITs, government agencies and local institutions.
