The Central Government is going to propose in the special session of the Parliament to increase the number of existing 543 seats of the Lok Sabha to 850 and on this basis to give 33 percent reservation to women. According to the draft of the bill, in the new format 815 seats have been earmarked for states and 35 seats for union territories.

Expansion

The three-day special session of Parliament is starting from 16 April 2026 (Thursday). The central government is going to introduce a bill in this session to implement women’s reservation. The Central Government has called this a necessary step to increase reservation for women in Parliament and Assemblies. In this special session, the bill will not be presented only to increase the reservation of women. Apart from this, the government will present two more bills. In this, one bill will be to increase the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats, while another bill will be a proposal to implement women’s reservation in the state and union territory assemblies and increase the seats in them.
