Mobile service in India started 25 years ago on 31 July 1995. For the first time in India, a call was made from mobile. Which took the shape of a revolution in the country. At that time, along with outgoing calls, they used to invest money for incoming calls.

The first thing was from Kolkata to Delhi- Jyoti Basu made this call from Kolkata’s Writers Building at Sanchar Bhawan in New Delhi. India’s first mobile operator company Modi was Telstra and its service was known as Mobile Net.

The first mobile call was made on this network. Modi was the joint venture of Telstra, India’s Modi Group and Australia’s telecom company Telstra. This company was one of the 8 companies that were licensed to provide cellular service in the country.

Telecommunication in India has come a long way since 1995. It is believed that by 5 years after the start of mobile service, the number of mobile subscribers reached 50 lakhs.
