According to the information, a 21-day religious ritual was organized during Chaitra Navratri at Pataleshwar Mahadev temple in Satdev village of Bherunda area, about 90 km from the district headquarters. On the occasion of its completion, about 11,000 liters of milk was poured into the Narmada river in Sehore district.

Organizers said the milk was offered in the river as part of rituals and prayers for the purity of the water, well-being and prosperity of the devotees. The milk was brought to the river bank in tankers and later poured into the flowing water amidst chanting of mantras in the presence of a crowd of devotees. Environmentalists expressed concern over this practice and warned of its adverse effects.

The oxygen level of water in the river will reduce!

Ajay Dubey, a well-known environmentalist and wildlife activist from MP, said, ‘Such a large amount of organic matter can reduce the dissolved oxygen in water, which can have an adverse effect on the river ecosystem.’

“These affect local communities that depend on the river for drinking water and endanger aquatic life as well as domestic animals,” he said. Such programs can also be done consciously and symbolically.

Milk will cause organic pollution

Well-known environmentalist Subhash Pandey said that 11,000 liters of milk acts as a significant organic pollutant. At the same time, other people who saw this viral video on social media also expressed their displeasure and said that how many poor children in the country are not able to get milk. If 11 thousand liters of milk had been distributed among the poor, what a noble deed it would have been.
