Who is Pappu Devi?
Pappu Devi is a resident of Pushkar, Rajasthan. His eyes are yellow-green or amber in color, which is very rare. People call them ‘tigress eyes’ or ‘tigress-like eyes’. When the photo was taken 20 years ago, she was a street vendor in the fair. The photographer captured his deep, sharp gaze and this picture became so special that it started getting printed on postcards and tourist souvenirs. Today Pappu Devi is in her late 30s. She still lives in Pushkar and runs a small roadside shop. At this shop she sells handmade Banjara style bags, mirror work crafts, souvenirs and even postcards with her old photographs. Tourists come recognizing them, look at their eyes, take photos and talk. She often wears colorful Banjara style clothes, which further enhance her eyes.
Inheritance given to daughters
The interesting thing is that this unique quality of his eyes has been inherited by his daughters also. He has three daughters. The eyes of two of these daughters are also yellow-green like their mother. People are surprised to see pictures of mother and daughter on social media. This genetic trait is so strong that tourists now become curious to see even daughters. People coming to Pushkar fair now praise the eyes of daughters along with their mothers. Pappu Devi’s life has been full of simplicity. He got fame, but there was no major change in his life. He never claimed royalty or copyright of the photo. She says that this is a miracle of nature, not of the lens.

She is married to a local safari driver and has a small family. She is busiest during the fair as tourists stop by her shop.
