New Delhi. Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas is ready to become India’s first uncapted cricketer who will lead the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). On Saturday, in a shocking turn, the 45 -year -old Manhas has come at the forefront of the board president’s race. This came out after a long meeting of BCCI in Delhi. The last date for submission of nomination is Sunday and the selection is going to be held on 28 September. The BCCI president has always been elected unopposed in the last five years. Apart from this, in recent years, the Indian board has insisted on keeping the former cricketer on top, Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny are examples of this.

Who is Mithun Manas?

Manhas, who started his professional career in the 1997/98 season, was one of the many middle-order batsmen who came at the wrong time. In the era of veterans like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly, Manhas failed to make it to the Indian team. However, he became a prominent player in domestic cricket. Right -handed batsman Manhas was an inspirational man in Delhi’s dressing room. Manhas led the team for most of the time on duty of the national team of big names like Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. In fact, the great Virat Kohli also played under his captaincy in the early years of his domestic cricket.

Manhas’s most influential season came in 2007/08 when he ended the championship drought after a long time with a Ranji Trophy win to Delhi. However, Gambhir led the team in the semi -finals and finals. Manhas scored 921 runs at an average of 57.56 in that season. In 2015, he switched from Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir for the Ranji Trophy season and was home to return for him as former batsmen were born in Jammu. Overall, Manhas played 157 first class matches, scoring 27 centuries at an average of more than 45 runs. Of these, 8554 runs came in 206 Ranji Trophy innings, which is the seventh highest in the history of the tournament. He also played 130 List A matches in which scored 4126 runs and played 91 T20 matches in which 1170 runs for Delhi.

Manhas also represented three franchisees in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He started his career with Delhi Daredevils where he played between 2008 and 2010. Between 2011 and 2013, they now moved to Warriors. He played in 2014 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni in Chennai Super Kings. In 55 demonstrations in the league in the seven seasons, he scored 514 runs at an average of 22.34.

In 2017, he returned to IPL as an assistant coach of Punjab and then was elected as the batting advisor of Bangladesh Under-19 team in the same year. After two years, he joined as an assistant coach of RCB in that role and in this time Gujarat is working in the same position for Titans. Manhas also has administrative experience, she has served as the Cricket Directorate of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
