54 -year -old Nikki Wake had felt her identity in teens. He told that at the age of 15, he started feeling attraction towards women. His story is quite surprising.

The Bisexual Visibility Day, celebrated on 23 September, matters greatly for those who recognize themselves as bisexuals (attracted to both sexes). Often when a bisexual person is in a heteronormative relationship (ie a man and woman’s traditional relationship), his bisexual identity is ignored. This is the reason that this day not only respects the presence of bisexual people but also brings out their history and struggles.
54 -year -old Nikki Wake felt her bisexual identity in teens. He told that at the age of 15, he started feeling attraction towards women. He remembered that “Just 17” saw an advertisement of Baby Oil in the magazine, with a woman’s back picture, and she found him attractive. Nikki says- “It was confusing me because I recently kissed my first boyfriend and I was also attracted to him. At that time I did not know that bisexuality is also an identity, so I ignored these feelings.” At the age of 17, Nikki was dating a boy who openly called himself bisexual. It felt very attractive to Nikki because she was comfortable and progressive about her identity. He later shared his female attraction for the first time while living in that relationship. During this time, she experienced her first relationship with a woman and then fell in love with a Portuguese woman. However, that relationship did not last long.
Search and experience in relationships
In 2002, Nikki met Andy Wake, whom she married. Andy knew and fully supported his bisexual identity. Despite this, Nikki felt that his friends and family believed that since he had married a man, his bicecuity was “just a round” and now he is completely heterosexuals. Nikki said- “After the death of Andy, people were believing that I would now date men only but the reality was that the first person with whom I joined after her death was a woman, and it was very natural for me.” After losing her husband, Nikki started looking at life and her identity from a new perspective. He said- “Losing your spouse forces you to think deeply on yourself and life. I understood that life is very small, and I should keep my heart, mind and body open with love whether it is male or female.” Today Nikki lives in Manchester and has started a company named Chapter 2 Dating. She says that now her life is “more honest and true” because she is completely comfortable with her identity.
